The Seventh Day, God Rests

1 Thus were finished the heavens and the earth and all their host.

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all (A)their hosts.

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

1 So the heavens and the earth and everything in them(a) were completed.(A)

1 With this the heavens and the earth were completed, including all of their vast array.

2 Thus God finished, on the seventh day his work which he had made, and rested, on the seventh day, from all his work which he had made.

2 By (B)the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and (C)He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

2 By the seventh(b) day God completed His work that He had done, and He rested(c) on the seventh day from all His work that He had done.(B)

2 By the seventh day God had completed the work he had been doing, so on the seventh day he stopped working on everything that he had done.

3 And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it, - because therein, rested he from all his work which God, by creating, had made.

3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created (a)and made.

3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

3 God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it He rested(C) from His work of creation.(d)(D)

3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God stopped working on everything that he had been creating.

The Man And Woman In Eden

5 Now, no bush of the field, as yet - was in the earth, and, no herb of the field, as yet had sprung up, - because Yahweh God had not sent rain on the earth, and, man, was there none to till the ground;

5 (F)Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, (G)for the Lord God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to (c)cultivate the ground.

5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

5 No shrub of the field(F) had yet grown on the land,(f) and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the Lord God had not made it rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground.

5 no shrubs had yet grown in the meadows of the earth and no vegetation had sprouted, because the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there were no human beings to work the ground.

6 but, a vapour, went up from the earth, - and watered all the face of the ground.

6 But a (d)mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole (e)surface of the ground.

6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

6 But water would come out of the ground and water the entire surface of the land.

6 Instead, an underground stream would arise out of the earth and water the surface of the ground.

7 So then Yahweh God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed in his nostrils the breath of life - and man became a living soul.

7 Then the Lord God formed man of (H)dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and (I)man became a living (f)being.

7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

7 Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground(G) and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils,(H) and the man became a living being.(I)

7 So the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground, breathed life into his lungs, and the man became a living being.

8 And Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden, on the east, - and put there the man whom he had formed.

8 The Lord God planted a (J)garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed.

8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

8 The Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east,(J) and there He placed the man He had formed.

8 The LORD God planted a garden in Eden, toward the east, where he placed the man whom he had formed.

9 And Yahweh God, caused to spring up, out of the ground, every tree pleasant to the sight and good for food, - and the tree of life, in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

9 Out of the ground the Lord God caused to grow (K)every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; (L)the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

9 The Lord God caused to grow out of the ground every tree pleasing in appearance and good for food, including the tree of life in the middle of the garden,(K) as well as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.(L)

9 The LORD God caused every tree that is both beautiful and suitable for food to spring up out of the ground. The tree of life was also in the middle of the garden, along with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

10 Now, a river, was coming forth out of Eden, to water the garden, - and, from thence, it parted, and became four heads,

10 Now a (M)river (g)flowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four (h)rivers.

10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

10 A river went(g) out from Eden to water the garden. From there it divided and became the source of four rivers.(h)

10 A river flows from Eden to water the garden, and from there it divides, becoming four branches.

11 The name of the one, is Pishon, - the same, is that which surroundeth all the land of Havilah, where is gold;

11 The name of the first is Pishon; it (i)flows around the whole land of (N)Havilah, where there is gold.

11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

11 The name of the first is Pishon, which flows through the entire land of Havilah,(i)(M) where there is gold.

11 The name of the first one is Pishon it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.

12 moreover the gold of that and, is good, - there, is the bdellium, and the beryl stone,

12 The gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there.

12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

12 Gold from that land is pure;(j) bdellium(k) and onyx(l) are also there.

12 The gold of that land is pure; bdellium and onyx are also found there.

13 And the name of the second river, is Gihon, - the same, is that which surroundeth all the land of Cush,

13 The name of the second river is Gihon; it (j)flows around the whole land of Cush.

13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

13 The name of the second river is Gihon, which flows through the entire land of Cush.

13 The name of the second river is Gihon it winds through the entire land of Cush.

14 And, the name of the third river, is Hiddekel, the same, is that which goeth in front of Assyria; and the fourth river, is Euphrates.

14 The name of the third river is (k)(O)Tigris; it (l)flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the (m)(P)Euphrates.

14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

14 The name of the third river is the Tigris,(N) which runs east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.(O)

14 The third river is named the Tigris it flows to the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.

15 So Yahweh God took the man, - and placed him in the garden of Eden, to till it and to keeps it.

15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.

15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

15 The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it.

15 The LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden in order to have him work it and guard it.

16 And Yahweh God laid command on the man, saying, - Of every tree of the garden, thou mayest eat;

16 The Lord God (Q)commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely;

16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree of the garden,(P)

16 The LORD God commanded the man: "You may freely eat from every tree of the garden,

17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not cat of it, - for in the day thou eatest thereof, thou shelf die.

17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not (n)eat, for in the day that you eat from it (R)you will surely die.”

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

17 but you must not eat(m) from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.”(Q)

17 but you are not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, because you will certainly die during the day that you eat from it."

The First Woman

18 And Yahweh God said, It is, not good, that the man should remain alone, - I will make for him a helper as his counterpart.

18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; (S)I will make him a helper (o)suitable for him.”

18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper as his complement.”(R)

18 Later, the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make the woman to be an authority corresponding to him."

19 Now Yahweh God had formed from the ground every living thing of the field and every bird of the heavens, which he brought in unto the man, that he might see what he should call it, - and, whatsoever the man should call it - any living soul, that, should be the name thereof.

19 (T)Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the (p)sky, and (U)brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.

19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

19 So the Lord God formed out of the ground every wild animal and every bird of the sky, and brought each to the man to see what he would call it.(S) And whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.

19 After the LORD God formed from the ground every wild animal and every bird that flies, he brought each of them to the man to see what he would call it. Whatever the man called each living creature became its name.

20 So the man gave names to all the tame-beasts, and to the birds of the heavens, and to all the wild-beasts of the field, - but, for man, had there not been found a helper as his counterpart.

20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the (q)sky, and to every beast of the field, but for (r)Adam there was not found (V)a helper (s)suitable for him.

20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

20 The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the sky, and to every wild animal; but for the man(n) no helper was found as his complement.

20 The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds that fly, and to each of earth's animals, but there was not found a strength corresponding to him,

21 So Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall on the man, and he slept, - and he took one of his ribs, and closed up flesh instead thereof.

21 So the Lord God caused a (W)deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place.

21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to come over the man,(T) and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place.

21 so the LORD God caused a deep sleep to overshadow the man.

22 And Yahweh God builded the rib which he had taken from the man, into a woman, and brought her in unto the man.

22 The Lord God (t)fashioned into a woman (X)the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.

22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

22 Then the Lord God made the rib He had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man.(U)

22 When the man was asleep, he removed one of the man's ribs and closed up the flesh where it had been. Then the LORD God formed the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man.

23 And the man said, This, one, now, is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh! This, one shall be called Woman, for, out of a man, hath this one been taken.

23 The man said,(Y)This is now bone of my bones,And flesh of my flesh;(u)She shall be called (v)Woman,Because (w)she was taken out of (x)Man.”

23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

23 And the man said:This one, at last, is bone of my boneand flesh of my flesh;this one will be called “woman,”for she was taken from man.(V)

23 So the man exclaimed, "At last! This is bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh. This one will be called "Woman,' because she was taken from Man."

24 For this cause, will a man leave his father and his mother, and cleave unto his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

24 (Z)For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.(W)

24 (Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother and cling to his wife, and they will become one flesh.)

25 And they were both of them naked, the man and his wife, - and put not each other to shame.

25 (AA)And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

25 Both the man and his wife were naked, yet felt no shame.

25 Even though both the man and his wife were naked, they were not ashamed about it.
