The Seventh Day, God Rests

11 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts.

11 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

11 So the heavens and the earth and everything in them were completed.

11 With this the heavens and the earth were completed, including all of their vast array.

11 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

22 By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

22 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

22 By the seventh day, God completed His work that He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work that He had done.

22 By the seventh day God had completed the work he had been doing, so on the seventh day he stopped working on everything that he had done.

22 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

33 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

33 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

33 God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it He rested from His work of creation.

33 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God stopped working on everything that he had been creating.

33 And God blessed (spoke good of) the seventh day, set it apart as His own, and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all His work which He had created and done.

The Man And Woman In Eden

55 Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the LORD God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.

55 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

55 No shrub of the field had yet [grown] on the land, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the Lord God had not made it rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground.

55 no shrubs had yet grown in the meadows of the earth and no vegetation had sprouted, because the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there were no human beings to work the ground.

55 When no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not [yet] caused it to rain upon the earth and there was no man to till the ground,

66 But a mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole surface of the ground.

66 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

66 But water would come out of the ground and water the entire surface of the land.

66 Instead, an underground stream would arise out of the earth and water the surface of the ground.

66 But there went up a mist (fog, vapor) from the land and watered the whole surface of the ground -- "

77 Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

77 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

77 Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.

77 So the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground, breathed life into his lungs, and the man became a living being.

77 Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being.

88 The LORD God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed.

88 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

88 The Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there He placed the man He had formed.

88 The LORD God planted a garden in Eden, toward the east, where he placed the man whom he had formed.

88 And the Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden [delight]; and there He put the man whom He had formed (framed, constituted).

99 Out of the ground the LORD God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

99 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

99 The Lord God caused to grow out of the ground every tree pleasing in appearance and good for food, including the tree of life in the midst of the garden, as well as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

99 The LORD God caused every tree that is both beautiful and suitable for food to spring up out of the ground. The tree of life was also in the middle of the garden, along with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

99 And out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight or to be desired -- "good (suitable, pleasant) for food; the tree of life also in the center of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of [the difference between] good and evil and blessing and calamity.

1010 Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four rivers.

1010 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

1010 A river flows from Eden to water the garden, and from there it divides, becoming four branches.

1010 Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four [river] heads.

1111 The name of the first is Pishon; it flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

1111 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

1111 The first is named Pishon; it is the one flowing around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

1212 The gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there.

1212 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

1212 Gold from that land is pure; bdellium and onyx are also there.

1212 The gold of that land is pure; bdellium and onyx are also found there.

1212 The gold of that land is of high quality; bdellium (pearl?) and onyx stone are there.

1313 The name of the second river is Gihon; it flows around the whole land of Cush.

1313 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

1313 The name of the second river is Gihon, which encircles the entire land of Cush.

1313 The name of the second river is Gihon it winds through the entire land of Cush.

1313 The second river is named Gihon; it is the one flowing around the whole land of Cush.

1414 The name of the third river is Tigris; it flows east of Assyria And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

1414 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

1414 The name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows to the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

1414 The third river is named the Tigris it flows to the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.

1414 The third river is named Hiddekel [the Tigris]; it is the one flowing east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

1515 Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.

1515 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

1515 The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it.

1515 The LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden in order to have him work it and guard it.

1515 And the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and guard and keep it.

1616 The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely;

1616 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

1616 And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree of the garden,

1616 The LORD God commanded the man: "You may freely eat from every tree of the garden,

1616 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree of the garden;

1717 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die."

1717 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

1717 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die."

1717 but you are not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, because you will certainly die during the day that you eat from it."

1717 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

The First Woman

1818 Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him."

1818 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

1818 Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is like him."

1818 Later, the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make the woman to be an authority corresponding to him."

1818 Now the Lord God said, It is not good (sufficient, satisfactory) that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper (suitable, adapted, complementary) for him.

1919 Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.

1919 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

1919 So the Lord God formed out of the ground each wild animal and each bird of the sky, and brought each to the man to see what he would call it. And whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.

1919 After the LORD God formed from the ground every wild animal and every bird that flies, he brought each of them to the man to see what he would call it. Whatever the man called each living creature became its name.

1919 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every [wild] beast and living creature of the field and every bird of the air and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them; and whatever Adam called every living creature, that was its name.

2020 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him.

2020 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

2020 The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the sky, and to every wild animal; but for the man no helper was found who was like him.

2020 The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds that fly, and to each of earth's animals, but there was not found a strength corresponding to him,

2020 And Adam gave names to all the livestock and to the birds of the air and to every [wild] beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper meet (suitable, adapted, complementary) for him.

2121 So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place.

2121 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

2121 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to come over the man, and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place.

2121 so the LORD God caused a deep sleep to overshadow the man.

2121 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and while he slept, He took one of his ribs or a part of his side and closed up the [place with] flesh.

2222 The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.

2222 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

2222 Then the Lord God made the rib He had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man.

2222 When the man was asleep, he removed one of the man's ribs and closed up the flesh where it had been. Then the LORD God formed the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man.

2222 And the rib or part of his side which the Lord God had taken from the man He built up and made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

2323 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man."

2323 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

2323 And the man said: This one, at last, is bone of my bone, and flesh of my flesh; this one will be called woman, for she was taken from man.

2323 So the man exclaimed, "At last! This is bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh. This one will be called "Woman,' because she was taken from Man."

2323 Then Adam said, This [creature] is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of a man.

2424 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

2424 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

2424 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.

2424 (Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother and cling to his wife, and they will become one flesh.)

2424 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall become united and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

2525 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

2525 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

2525 Both the man and his wife were naked, yet felt no shame.

2525 Even though both the man and his wife were naked, they were not ashamed about it.

2525 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not embarrassed or ashamed in each other's presence.
