The Branch's Righteous Reign

1 And there will come a rod out of the broken tree of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots will give fruit.

1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

1 Then a (A)shoot will spring from the (B)stem of Jesse,And a (C)branch from (D)his roots will bear fruit.

1 Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse,(A)and a branch(B) from his roots will bear fruit.

1 "A shoot will come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch will bear fruit from his roots.

2 And the spirit of the Lord will be resting on him, the spirit of wisdom and good sense, the spirit of wise guiding and strength, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

2 The (E)Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him,The spirit of (F)wisdom and understanding,The spirit of counsel and (G)strength,The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him(C)a Spirit of wisdom and understanding,a Spirit of counsel and strength,a Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and power, the Spirit of knowledge and fear of the LORD.

3 And he will not be guided in his judging by what he sees, or give decisions by the hearing of his ears:

3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

3 And He will delight in the fear of the Lord,And He will not judge by what His eyes (H)see,Nor make a decision by what His ears hear;

3 His delight will be in the fear of the Lord.He will not judgeby what He sees with His eyes,(D)He will not execute justiceby what He hears with His ears,

3 His delight will be in the fear of the LORD. He won't judge by what his eyes see, nor decide disputes by what his ears hear,

4 But he will do right in the cause of the poor, and give wise decisions for those in the land who are in need; and the rod of his mouth will come down on the cruel, and with the breath of his lips he will put an end to the evil-doer.

4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

4 But with (I)righteousness He will judge the (J)poor,And decide with fairness for the (K)afflicted of the earth;And He will strike the earth with the (L)rod of His mouth,And with the (M)breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.

4 but He will judge the poor righteously(E)and execute justice for the oppressed of the land.He will strike the landwith discipline(a) from His mouth,(F)and He will kill the wicked(G)with a command(b) from His lips.(H)

4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy, and decide with equity for earth's poor. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and the wicked will be killed with the breath of his lips.

5 And righteousness will be the cord of his robe, and good faith the band round his breast.

5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

5 Also (N)righteousness will be the belt about His loins,And (O)faithfulness the belt about His waist.

5 Righteousness will be a belt around His loins;(I)faithfulness will be a belt around His waist.(J)

5 Righteousness will be the sash around his loins, and faithfulness the belt around his waist."

6 And the wolf will be living with the lamb, and the leopard will take his rest with the young goat; and the lion will take grass for food like the ox; and the young lion will go with the young ones of the herd; and a little child will be their guide.

6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

6 And the (P)wolf will dwell with the lamb,And the leopard will lie down with the young goat,And the calf and the young lion (a)and the fatling together;And a little boy will lead them.

6 The wolf will live with the lamb,(K)and the leopard will lie down with the goat.The calf, the young lion, and the fatling will be together,and a child will lead them.

6 "The wolf will live with the lamb; the leopard will lie down with the young goat. The calf and the lion will graze together, and a little child will lead them.

7 And the cow and the bear will be friends while their young ones are sleeping together.

7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

7 Also the cow and the bear will graze,Their young will lie down together,And the (Q)lion will eat straw like the ox.

8 The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra,And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.

8 An infant will play beside the cobra’s pit,and a toddler will put his hand into a snake’s den.

8 The nursing child will play over the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child will put his hand on vipers' dens.

9 There will be no cause of pain or destruction in all my holy mountain: for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the sea is covered by the waters.

9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

9 They will (R)not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,For the (S)earth will be full of the knowledge of the LordAs the waters cover the sea.

9 None will harm or destroy anotheron My entire holy mountain,for the land will be as fullof the knowledge of the Lordas the sea is filled with water.(L)

9 They will neither harm nor destroy on my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea."

Israel Regathered

10 And in that day, the eyes of the nations will be turned to the root of Jesse which will be lifted up as the flag of the peoples; and his resting-place will be glory.

10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

10 Then in that dayThe (T)nations will resort to the (U)root of Jesse,Who will stand as a (b)(V)signal for the peoples;And His (W)resting place will be (c)glorious.

10 On that day the root of Jesse(M)will stand as a banner for the peoples.(N)The nations will seek Him,(O)and His resting place will be glorious.(P)

10 At that time, as to the root of Jesse, who will be standing as a banner for the nations, the nations will rally to him, and his resting place is glorious.

The Regathered Remnant

11 And in that day the hand of the Lord will be stretched out the second time to get back the rest of his people, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the sea-lands.

11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

11 Then it will happen on that day that the LordWill again recover the second time with His handThe (X)remnant of His people, who will remain,From (Y)Assyria, (Z)Egypt, Pathros, Cush, (AA)Elam, Shinar, Hamath,And from the (d)(AB)islands of the sea.

11 On that day(Q) the Lord will extend His hand a second time to recover—from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the coasts and islands of the west—the remnant of His people who survive.(R)

11 At that time, the LORD will reach out his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that is left of his people, from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

12 And he will put up a flag as a sign to the nations, and he will get together those of Israel who had been sent away, and the wandering ones of Judah, from the four ends of the earth.

12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

12 And He will lift up a (AC)standard for the nationsAnd (AD)assemble the banished ones of Israel,And will gather the dispersed of JudahFrom the four corners of the earth.

12 He will lift up a banner for the nationsand gather the dispersed of Israel;(S)He will collect the scattered of Judahfrom the four corners of the earth.(T)

12 He will raise a banner for the nations and will assemble the dispersed of Israel; he will gather the scattered people of Judah from the corners of the earth.

13 And the envy of Ephraim will be gone, and those who make trouble for Judah will come to an end: Ephraim will have no more envy of Judah, and there will be an end of Judah's hate for Ephraim.

13 The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim.

13 Then the (AE)jealousy of Ephraim will depart,And those who harass Judah will be cut off;Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah,And Judah will not harass Ephraim.

13 Ephraim’s envy will cease;(U)Judah’s harassment will end.Ephraim will no longer be envious of Judah,and Judah will not harass Ephraim.

13 Ephraim's jealousy will vanish, and those who are hostile to Judah will be eliminated; Ephraim will no longer be jealous of Judah, and Judah will not be hostile to Ephraim.

14 And they will be united in attacking the Philistines on the west, and together they will take the goods of the children of the east: their hand will be on Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon will be under their rule.

14 But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them.

14 They will (AF)swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the (AG)west;Together they will (AH)plunder the sons of the east;(e)They will possess (AI)Edom and (AJ)Moab,And the sons of Ammon will be (f)subject to them.

14 But they will swoop downon the Philistine flank to the west.Together they will plunder the people of the east.(V)They will extend their power over Edom and Moab,and the Ammonites will be their subjects.(W)

14 But they will swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines to the west, and they will plunder the people to the east. They'll lay their hands on Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will be subject to them.

15 And the Lord will make the tongue of the Egyptian sea completely dry; and with his burning wind his hand will be stretched out over the River, and it will be parted into seven streams, so that men may go over it with dry feet.

15 And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind shall he shake his hand over the river, and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over dryshod.

15 And the Lord will (g)(AK)utterly destroyThe tongue of the (h)Sea of Egypt;And He will (AL)wave His hand over the (i)(AM)RiverWith His scorching wind;And He will strike it into seven streamsAnd make men walk over (j)dry-shod.

15 The Lord will divide(c)(d) the Gulf of Suez.(e)He will wave His hand over the Euphrateswith His mighty wind(X)and will split it into seven streams,letting people walk through on foot.

15 The LORD will totally destroy the gulf of the Sea of Egypt. He will sweep his hand over the Euphrates River with a violent wind, breaking it up into seven streams, and making a way for people to cross on foot.

16 And there will be a highway for the rest of his people from Assyria; as there was for Israel in the day when he came up out of the land of Egypt.

16 And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.

16 And there will be a (AN)highway from AssyriaFor the (AO)remnant of His people who will be left,Just as there was for IsraelIn (AP)the day that they came up out of the land of Egypt.

16 There will be a highway for the remnant of His peoplewho will survive from Assyria,(Y)as there was for Israelwhen they came up from the land of Egypt.(Z)

16 And there will be a highway for the remnant that is left of his people out of Assyria, as there was for Israel when they came up from the land of Egypt.
