1 The word which Isaiah, the son of Amoz, saw about Judah and Jerusalem.

1 The vision that Isaiah(A) son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

1 The message that Amoz's son Isaiah received concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

2 And it will come about in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord will be placed on the top of the mountains, and be lifted up over the hills; and all nations will come to it.

2 Now it will come about that(B)In the last daysThe (C)mountain of the house of the LordWill be established (a)as the chief of the mountains,And will be raised above the hills;And (D)all the nations will stream to it.

2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

2 In(B) the last days(C)the mountain of the Lord’s house(D) will be establishedat the top of the mountainsand will be raised above the hills.All nations will stream to it,(E)

2 "It will come about in the last days that the mountain that is the LORD's Temple will be established as the highest of mountains, and will be raised above the hills; all the nations will stream to it.

3 And the peoples will say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob: and he will give us knowledge of his ways, and we will be guided by his word; for out of Zion the law will go out, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

3 And many peoples will come and say,“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,To the house of the God of Jacob;That He may teach us (b)concerning His waysAnd that we may walk in His paths.”For the (c)law will go forth (E)from ZionAnd the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

3 and many peoples will come and say,“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,to the house of the God of Jacob.(F)He will teach us about His waysso that we may walk in His paths.”For instruction will go out of Zionand the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

3 Many groups of people will come, commenting, "Come! Let's go up to the Temple of the God of Jacob, that they may teach us his ways. Then let's walk in his paths." "Instruction will proceed from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

4 And he will be the judge between the nations, and the peoples will be ruled by his decisions: and their swords will be turned into plough-blades, and their spears into vine-knives: no longer will the nations be turning their swords against one another, and the knowledge of war will be gone for ever.

4 And He will judge between the nations,And will (d)render decisions for many peoples;And (F)they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.(G)Nation will not lift up sword against nation,And never again will they learn war.

4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

4 He will settle disputes among the nationsand provide arbitration for many peoples.They will turn their swords into plowsand their spears into pruning knives.(G)Nations will not take up the sword against other nations,and they will never again train for war.(H)

4 He will judge between the nations, and will render verdicts for the benefit of many. "They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nations will not raise swords against nations, and they will not learn warfare anymore.

5 O family of Jacob, come, and let us go in the light of the Lord.

5 Come, (H)house of Jacob, and let us walk in the (I)light of the Lord.

5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

5 House of Jacob,come and let us walk in the Lord’s light.(I)

5 "You house of Jacob! Come! Let's live in the LORD's light.

Israel's Sins

6 For you, O Lord, have given up your people, the family of Jacob, because they are full of the evil ways of the east, and make use of secret arts like the Philistines, and are friends with the children of strange countries.

6 For You have (J)abandoned Your people, the house of Jacob,Because they are filled with influences from the east,And they are soothsayers (K)like the Philistines,And they (L)strike bargains with the children of foreigners.

6 Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they be replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of strangers.

6 For You have abandoned(J) Your people,the house of Jacob,because they are full of divination from the Eastand of fortune-tellers(K) like the Philistines.(L)They are in league(a) with foreigners.

6 For you have rejected your people, the house of Jacob, because they are filled with practices learned from the East and they are fortune-tellers like the Philistines. They cut deals with foreigners.

7 And their land is full of silver and gold, and there is no end to their stores; their land is full of horses, and there is no end to their carriages.

7 Their land has also been filled with silver and goldAnd there is no end to their treasures;Their land has also been filled with (M)horsesAnd there is no end to their chariots.

7 Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots:

7 Their(b)(c) land is full of silver and gold,and there is no limit to their treasures;their land is full of horses,and there is no limit to their chariots.(M)

7 Their land is filled with silver and gold, and there is no end to their treasures; their land is filled with horses, and there is no end to their chariots.

8 Their land is full of images; they give worship to the work of their hands, even to that which their fingers have made.

8 Their land has also been (N)filled with idols;They worship the (O)work of their hands,That which their fingers have made.

8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:

8 Their land is full of idols;(N)they bow down to the work of their hands,to what their fingers have made.(O)

8 Their land is filled with idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their own fingers have made.

9 And the poor man's head is bent, and the great man goes down on his face: for this cause there will be no forgiveness for their sin.

9 So (P)the common man has been humbledAnd the man of importance has been abased,But (Q)do not forgive them.

9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not.

9 So humanity is brought low,and man is humbled.Do not forgive them!(P)

9 "So mankind is humbled, each human being is brought low, and you won't forgive."

10 Go into a hole in the rock, covering yourselves with dust, in fear of the Lord, before the glory of his power.

10 (R)Enter the rock and hide in the dust(S)From the terror of the Lord and from the splendor of His majesty.

10 Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty.

10 Go into the rocks(Q)and hide in the dustfrom the terror of the Lord(R)and from His majestic splendor.(S)

10 "Go into the rocks! Hide in the dust to escape the terror of the LORD and to escape the glory of his majesty!

11 The high looks of man will be put to shame, and the pride of men will be made low, and only the Lord will be lifted up in that day.

11 The (e)(T)proud look of man will be abasedAnd the (U)loftiness of man will be humbled,And the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.

11 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

11 Human pride(d) will be humbled,(T)and the loftiness of men will be brought low;the Lord alone will be exalted on that day.

11 The haughty looks of mankind will be brought low, the lofty pride of human beings will be humbled, and the LORD alone will be exalted at that time.

The Day Of The Lord's Judgment

12 For the day of the Lord of armies is coming on all the pride of men, and on all who are high and lifted up;

12 For the Lord of hosts will have a day of reckoningAgainst (V)everyone who is proud and loftyAnd against everyone who is lifted up,That he may be abased.

12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

12 For a day belonging to the Lord of Hosts is comingagainst all that is proud and lofty,(U)against all that is lifted up—it will be humbled—

12 "For the LORD of the Heavenly Armies has reserved a time to oppose all who are proud and haughty, and the self-exalting they will be humbled.

13 And on all the high trees of Lebanon, and on all the strong trees of Bashan;

13 And it will be against all the cedars of Lebanon that are lofty and lifted up,Against all the (W)oaks of Bashan,

13 And upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan,

13 against all the cedars of Lebanon,(V)lofty and lifted up,against all the oaks of Bashan,(W)

13 He will take his stand against all the cedars of Lebanon, against the proud and self-exalting; and against all the oaks of Bashan;

14 And on all the high mountains, and on all the hills which are lifted up;

14 Against all the (X)lofty mountains,Against all the hills that are lifted up,

14 And upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up,

14 against all the high mountains,(X)against all the lofty hills,

14 against all the high mountains, and against all the lofty hills;

15 And on every high tower, and on every strong wall;

15 Against every (Y)high tower,Against every fortified wall,

15 And upon every high tower, and upon every fenced wall,

15 against every high tower,(Y)against every fortified wall,

15 against every high tower, and against every fortified wall;

16 And on all the ships of Tarshish, and on all the fair boats.

16 Against all the (Z)ships of TarshishAnd against all the beautiful craft.

16 And upon all the ships of Tarshish, and upon all pleasant pictures.

16 against every ship of Tarshish,(Z)and against every splendid sea vessel.

16 against all the ships from Tarshish, and against all their impressive watercraft.

17 And the high looks of man will be put to shame, and the pride of men will be made low: and only the Lord will be lifted up in that day.

17 The pride of man will be humbledAnd the loftiness of men will be abased;And the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,

17 And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

17 So human pride will be brought low,and the loftiness of men will be humbled;the Lord alone will be exalted on that day.(AA)

17 "Humanity's haughtiness will be humbled, male arrogance will be brought low, and the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.

18 And the images will never be seen again.

18 But the (AA)idols will completely vanish.

18 And the idols he shall utterly abolish.

18 The idols will vanish completely.

18 Their idols will utterly vanish.

19 And men will go into cracks of the rocks, and into holes of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and before the glory of his power, when he comes out of his place, shaking the earth with his strength.

19 Men will (AB)go into caves of the rocksAnd into holes of the (f)groundBefore the terror of the LordAnd the splendor of His majesty,When He arises (AC)to make the earth tremble.

19 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

19 People will go into caves in the rocks(AB)and holes in the ground,away from the terror of the Lordand from His majestic splendor,when He rises to terrify the earth.(AC)

19 "They will enter caverns in the rocks and holes in the ground to escape the presence of the terror of the LORD, to escape the splendor of his majesty when he arises to terrify the earth.

20 In that day men will put their images of silver and of gold, which they made for worship, in the keeping of the beasts of the dark places;

20 In that day men will (AD)cast away to the moles and the (AE)batsTheir idols of silver and their idols of gold,Which they made for themselves to worship,

20 In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;

20 On that day people will throwtheir silver and gold idols,(AD)which they made to worship,to the moles and the bats.

20 At that time, mankind will throw their silver and gold idols that their fingers have made as objects of worship to the moles and to the bats.

21 To take cover in the cracks of the rocks, and in the holes of the hills, for fear of the Lord, and before the glory of his power, when he comes out of his place, shaking the earth with his strength.

21 In order to (AF)go into the caverns of the rocks and the clefts of the cliffsBefore the terror of the Lord and the splendor of His majesty,When He arises to make the earth tremble.

21 To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

21 They will go into the caves of the rocksand the crevices in the cliffs,away from the terror of the Lordand from His majestic splendor,(AE)when He rises to terrify the earth.

21 They will enter caverns in the rocks and clefts in the cliffs, to escape the terror of the LORD and to escape the splendor of his majesty, when he arises to terrorize the earth.

22 Have no more to do with man, whose life is only a breath, for he is of no value.

22 (g)(AG)Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils;For (h)(AH)why should he be esteemed?

22 Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?

22 Put no more trust in man,who has only the breath in his nostrils.(AF)What is he really worth?

22 "Stop trusting in human beings, whose life breath is in their nostrils, for what are they really worth?"
