4 And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.

4 “I will make youths their leaders,(B)and the unstable(c) will govern them.”

4 "I will make youths their princes, and infants will rule over them.

6 When one man puts his hand on another in his father's house, and says, You have clothing, be our ruler and be responsible for us in our sad condition:

6 When a man (F)lays hold of his brother in his father’s house, saying,“You have a cloak, you shall be our ruler,And these ruins will be under your (f)charge,”

6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand:

6 A man will even seize his brotherin his father’s house, saying:“You have a cloak—you be our leader! This heap of rubble will be under your control.”

7 Then he will say with an oath, I will not be a helper, for in my house there is no bread or clothing: I will not let you make me a ruler of the people.

7 He will (g)protest on that day, saying,“I will not be your (h)(G)healer,For in my house there is neither bread nor cloak; You should not appoint me ruler of the people.”

7 In that day shall he swear, saying, I will not be an healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: make me not a ruler of the people.

7 On that day he will cry out, saying:“I’m not a healer.I don’t even have food or clothing in my house.Don’t make me the leader of the people!”

7 "But at that time, he'll protest! He'll say, "I won't be your healer. I have neither food nor clothing in my house! You're not going to make me a leader of the people!'

8 For Jerusalem has become feeble, and destruction has come on Judah, because their words and their acts are against the Lord, moving the eyes of his glory to wrath.

8 For (H)Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen,Because their (i)(I)speech and their actions are against the Lord,To (J)rebel against (j)His glorious presence.

8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

8 For Jerusalem has stumbledand Judah has fallenbecause they have spoken and acted against the Lord,(D)defying His glorious presence.(E)

8 "For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because what they say and do opposes the LORD; they keep defying him.

9 Their respect for a man's position is a witness against them; and their sin is open to the view of all; like that of Sodom, it is not covered. A curse on their soul! for the measure of their sin is full.

9 (k)The expression of their faces bears witness against them,And they display their sin like (K)Sodom; They do not even conceal it.Woe to (l)them! For they have (L)brought evil on themselves.

9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

9 The look on their faces testifies against them, and like Sodom,(F) they flaunt their sin. They do not conceal it.Woe to them, for they have brought evil on themselves.(G)

9 "The expressions on their faces give them away. They parade their sin around like Sodom; they don't even try to hide it. How horrible it will be for them, because they have brought disaster on themselves!"

10 Happy is the upright man! for he will have joy of the fruit of his ways.

10 Say to the (M)righteous that it will go well with them,For they will eat the fruit of their actions.

10 Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

10 Tell the righteous that it will go well for them, for they will eat the fruit of their labor.

10 "Tell the righteous that things will go well, because they will enjoy the fruit of their actions."

11 Unhappy is the sinner! for the reward of his evil doings will come on him.

11 Woe to the wicked! It will go badly with him,For (m)(N)what he deserves will be done to him.

11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

11 Woe to the wicked—it will go badly for them, for what they have done will be done to them.

11 "How terrible it will be for the wicked! Disaster is headed their way, because what they did with their hand will be repaid to them.

12 As for my people, their ruler is acting like a child, and those who have authority over them are women. O my people, your guides are the cause of your wandering, turning your footsteps out of the right way.

12 O My people! Their oppressors (n)are (O)children,And women rule over them.O My people! (P)Those who guide you lead you astrayAnd confuse the direction of your paths.

12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

12 Youths oppress My people,(H)and women rule over them.My people, your leaders mislead you;they confuse the direction of your paths.(I)

12 "As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. My people, your leaders are misleading you they're giving you confusing directions."

The Lord Judges His People

13 The Lord is ready to take up his cause against his people, and is about to come forward as their judge.

13 (Q)The Lord arises to contend,And stands to judge the people.

13 The LORD standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.

13 The Lord rises to argue the caseand stands to judge the people.(J)

13 The LORD is taking his place to argue his case; he's standing up to judge the people.

14 The Lord comes to be the judge of their responsible men and of their rulers: it is you who have made waste the vine-garden, and in your houses is the property of the poor which you have taken by force.

14 The Lord (R)enters into judgment with the elders and princes of His people,“It is you who have (S)devoured the vineyard; The (T)plunder of the poor is in your houses.

14 The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

14 The Lord brings this chargeagainst the elders and leaders of His people:(K)“You have devastated the vineyard. The plunder from the poor is in your houses.(L)

14 The LORD will go to court to oppose the elders and princes of his people: "You're the ones who have been devouring the vineyard, the plunder of the poor is in your own houses!

15 By what right are you crushing my people, and putting a bitter yoke on the necks of the poor? This is the word of the Lord, the Lord of armies.

15 “What do you mean by (U)crushing My peopleAnd grinding the face of the poor?”Declares the Lord (o)God of hosts.

15 What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

15 Why do you crush My peopleand grind the faces of the poor?”This is the declarationof the Lord God of Hosts.

15 How dare you crush my people as you grind down the face of the poor?" declares the Lord GOD of the Heavenly Armies.

The Pride Of Jerusalem's Women

16 Again, the Lord has said, Because the daughters of Zion are full of pride, and go with outstretched necks and wandering eyes, with their foot-chains sounding when they go:

16 Moreover, the Lord said, “Because the (V)daughters of Zion are proudAnd walk with (p)heads held high and seductive eyes,And go along with mincing stepsAnd tinkle the bangles on their feet,

16 Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:

16 The Lord also says:Because the daughters of Zion are haughty,(M)walking with heads held highand seductive eyes, going along with prancing steps, jingling their ankle bracelets,

16 The LORD also says: "Because Zion's women are so haughty, and walk with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, prancing along as they walk, and making tinkling noises with their ankle bracelets,

17 The Lord will send disease on the heads of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will let their secret parts be seen.

17 Therefore the Lord will afflict the scalp of the daughters of Zion with scabs,And the Lord will make their foreheads bare.”

17 Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts.

17 the Lord will put scabs on the headsof the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will shave their foreheads bare.

17 therefore the LORD will afflict sores on the heads of Zion's women, and the LORD will expose their private parts.

18 In that day the Lord will take away the glory of their foot-rings, and their sun-jewels, and their moon-ornaments,

18 In that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, headbands, (W)crescent ornaments,

18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,

18 On that day(N) the Lord will strip their finery: ankle bracelets, headbands, crescents,(O)

18 "At that time, the LORD will take away the finery of the ankle bracelets, headbands, crescents,

19 The ear-rings, and the chains, and the delicate clothing,

19 dangling earrings, bracelets, veils,

19 The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,

19 pendants, bracelets, veils,

19 pendants, bracelets, veils,

20 The head-bands, and the arm-chains, and the worked bands, and the perfume-boxes, and the jewels with secret powers,

20 (X)headdresses, ankle chains, sashes, perfume boxes, amulets,

20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings,

20 headdresses, ankle jewelry, sashes, perfume bottles, amulets,(P)

20 headdresses, armlets, sashes, perfume boxes, charms,

21 The rings, and the nose-jewels,

21 (q)finger rings, (Y)nose rings,

21 The rings, and nose jewels,

21 signet rings, nose rings,(Q)

21 signet rings, nose rings,

22 The feast-day dresses, and the robes, and the wide skirts, and the handbags,

22 festal robes, outer tunics, cloaks, money purses,

22 festive robes, capes, cloaks, purses,

22 fine robes, capes, purses,

23 The looking-glasses, and the fair linen, and the high head-dresses, and the veils.

23 The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails.

23 garments, linen clothes, turbans, and veils.

23 mirrors, linen garments, tiaras, and veils.

24 And in the place of sweet spices will be an evil smell, and for a fair band a thick cord; for a well-dressed head there will be the cutting-off of the hair, and for a beautiful robe there will be the clothing of sorrow; the mark of the prisoner in place of the ornaments of the free.

24 Now it will come about that instead of (r)sweet (Z)perfume there will be putrefaction;Instead of a belt, a rope;Instead of (AA)well-set hair, a (AB)plucked-out scalp;Instead of fine clothes, a (AC)donning of sackcloth; And branding instead of beauty.

24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.

24 Instead of perfume there will be a stench;instead of a belt, a rope;instead of beautifully styled hair,(R) baldness;(S)instead of fine clothes, sackcloth;(T)instead of beauty, branding.(d)

24 "And it will come about that instead of fragrance there will be a stench; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of well-set hair, baldness; instead of a fine robe, sackcloth; and instead of beauty, shame.

25 Your men will be put to the sword, and your men of war will come to destruction in the fight.

25 Your men will (AD)fall by the swordAnd your (s)mighty ones in battle.

25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.

25 Your men will fall by the sword, your warriors in battle.

25 Your men will die violently, while your forces fall in battle

26 And in the public places of her towns will be sorrow and weeping; and she will be seated on the earth, waste and uncovered.

26 And her (t)(AE)gates will lament and mourn,And deserted she will (AF)sit on the ground.

26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.

26 Then her gates(U) will lament and mourn;deserted, she will sit on the ground.(V) >
