“In vain I have struck your sons;
They accepted no chastening.
Your sword has devoured your prophets
Like a destroying lion.

if you do not oppress the alien, the

orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, nor walk after other gods to your own ruin,

Thus says the Lord, “Do justice and righteousness, and deliver the one who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor. Also do not mistreat or do violence to the stranger, the orphan, or the widow; and do not shed innocent blood in this place.

He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground.

Reuben answered them, saying, “Did I not tell you, ‘Do not sin against the boy’; and you would not listen?

So you shall not pollute the land in which you are; for blood pollutes the land and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it.

So innocent blood will not be shed in the midst of your land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance, and bloodguiltiness be on you.
