Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.
Then the officials said to Baruch, “Go,
hide yourself, you and Jeremiah, and do not let anyone know where you are.”
Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, while he was in the king’s palace, heard that they had put Jeremiah into the cistern. Now the king was sitting in the Gate of Benjamin;
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and
deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?”
When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord,
makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
And he said, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they kept shouting all the more, saying, “
and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one who
incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no guilt in this man regarding the charges which you make against Him.
But a Pharisee named
Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in the Council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time.
And there occurred a great uproar; and some of
the scribes of the Pharisaic party stood up and began to argue heatedly, saying, “ We find nothing wrong with this man; suppose a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?”
But I found that he had committed
nothing worthy of death; and since he himself appealed to the Emperor, I decided to send him.
and when they had gone aside, they began talking to one another, saying, “
This man is not doing anything worthy of death or imprisonment.”
