1 Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,

1 Then Job (a)continued his (A)discourse and said,

1 Job continued his discourse, saying:

1 Job continued with his discussion and said:

2 God lives, he removed my judgment; and the Almighty embittered my soul;

2 As God liveth, who hath taken away my judgment; and the Almighty, who hath vexed my soul;

2 “As God lives, (B)who has taken away my right,And the Almighty, (C)who has embittered my soul,

2 As God lives, who has deprived me of justice,(A)and the Almighty who has made me bitter,(B)

2 "The living God has withheld justice from me; the Almighty has made my life bitter.

3 For all the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God in my nose;

3 All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;

3 For as long as (b)life is in me,And the (c)(D)breath of God is in my nostrils,

3 as long as my breath is still in meand the breath from God remains in my nostrils,(C)

3 As long as I can breathe; as long as God's breath is in my nostrils,

4 If my lips shall speak iniquity, and my tongue if it shall murmur deceit

4 My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.

4 My lips certainly will not speak unjustly,Nor will (E)my tongue mutter deceit.

4 my lips will not speak unjustly,and my tongue will not utter deceit.

4 I won't speak lies nor will I utter deceit.

5 Far be it to me if I shall justify you: till I expire I will not remove my integrity from me.

5 God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me.

5 “Far be it from me that I should declare you right;Till I die (F)I will not put away my integrity from me.

5 I will never affirm that you are right.I will maintain my integrity(a)(D) until I die.

5 Far be it from me to admit that you're right! I intend to maintain my integrity even if it kills me!

6 My justice I held fast, and I will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach from my days.

6 My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.

6 “I (G)hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go.My heart does not reproach any of my days.

6 I will cling to my righteousness and never let it go.My conscience(E) will not accuse me as long as I live!

6 I'll retain my righteousness and not compromise it; my conscience won't rebuke me at any time.

7 Mine enemy shall be as the unjust one, and he rising up against me, as the evil one.

7 Let mine enemy be as the wicked, and he that riseth up against me as the unrighteous.

7 “May my enemy be as the wickedAnd (d)my opponent as the unjust.

7 May my enemy be like the wickedand my opponent like the unjust.

7 "May my enemy be like the wicked; my adversary like the unjust.

8 For what the hope of the profane one if he shall plunder? for God shall draw out his soul.

8 For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?

8 “For what is (H)the hope of the godless (e)when he is cut off,When God requires (I)his (f)life?

8 For what hope does the godless man(F) have when he is cut off,when God takes away his life?(G)

8 For where is the hope of the godless when he is eliminated; when God takes away his life?

9 Will God hear his cry when straits shall come upon him?

9 Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him?

9 “Will God (J)hear his cryWhen (K)distress comes upon him?

9 Will God hear his crywhen distress comes on him?

9 Will God hear his cry when distress overtakes him?

10 If he will delight himself upon the Almighty? will he call upon God in all time?

10 Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God?

10 “Will he take (L)delight in the Almighty?Will he call on God at all times?

10 Will he delight(H) in the Almighty?Will he call on God at all times?

10 Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?"

What God Has In Store For Wicked People

11 I will teach you by the hand of God: what is with the Almighty I will not hide.

11 I will teach you by the hand of God: that which is with the Almighty will I not conceal.

11 “I will instruct you in the (g)power of God;What is with the Almighty I will not conceal.

11 I will teach you about God’s power.I will not conceal what the Almighty has planned.(b)

11 "I'll teach you about the power of God, that which is with the Almighty I won't conceal.

12 Behold, all ye yourselves saw; and wherefore this, will ye breathe out vanity?

12 Behold, all ye yourselves have seen it; why then are ye thus altogether vain?

12 “Behold, all of you have seen it;Why then do you (h)act foolishly?

12 All of you have seen this for yourselves,why do you keep up this empty talk?(I)

12 Look! All of you have been watching, so why have you become so completely worthless?

13 This the portion of an unjust man with God, and the inheritance of the terrible they shall take from the Almighty.

13 This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty.

13 “This is (M)the portion of a wicked man from God,And the inheritance which (N)tyrants receive from the Almighty.

13 This is a wicked man’s lot(J) from God,the inheritance the ruthless receive from the Almighty.

13 "This is what a wicked person inherits from God, and what the ruthless will receive from the Almighty:

14 If his sons shall be multiplied, for then the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

14 If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

14 “Though his sons are many, (i)they are destined (O)for the sword;And his (P)descendants will not be satisfied with bread.

14 Even if his children increase, they are destined for the sword;his descendants will never have enough food.

14 If he has many children, their destiny is to die by the sword, and his descendants won't have enough food.

15 His surviving one shall be buried in death, and his widows shall not weep.

15 Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep.

15 “His survivors will be buried because of the plague,And (j)their (Q)widows will not be able to weep.

15 Those who survive him will be buried by the plague,yet their widows will not weep for them.(K)

15 Those who do survive him disease will bury, and his widow won't even weep.

16 If he shall heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as clay;

16 Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay;

16 “Though he piles up silver like dustAnd prepares garments as plentiful as the clay,

16 Though he piles up silver like dustand heaps up a wardrobe like clay—

16 "Though he hoards silver like dust, and stores away garments like clay,

17 He shall prepare, and the just shall put on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

17 He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

17 He may prepare it, (R)but the just will wear itAnd the innocent will divide the silver.

17 he may heap it up, but the righteous will wear it,and the innocent will divide up his silver.(L)

17 whatever he stores up, the righteous will wear, and the innocent will inherit that silver!

18 He built his house as the moth, and as a booth he watching made.

18 He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh.

18 “He has built his (S)house like the (k)spider’s web,Or as a hut which the watchman has made.

18 The house he built is like a moth’s cocoonor a booth set up by a watchman.(M)

18 "He has built his house like a moth's cocoon, like a temporary sunshade that a watchman makes.

19 The rich one shall lie down, and he shall not be gathered: he opened his eyes, and he is not

19 The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not.

19 “He lies down rich, but never (l)again;He opens his eyes, and (T)it is no longer.

19 He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more;when he opens his eyes, it is gone.

19 He will go to bed wealthy, but won't be doing that anymore! When he opens his eyes, it will be gone!

20 Terrors shall hedge him about as waters, the night a tempest stole him away.

20 Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night.

20 (U)Terrors overtake him like a flood;A tempest steals him away (V)in the night.

20 Terrors overtake him like a flood;(N)a storm(O) wind sweeps him away at night.

20 Terror will overtake him like a flood, at night, a tornado will sweep him away.

21 The east wind shall lift him up, and he shall go: and it shall sweep him away in storm from his place.

21 The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place.

21 “The east (W)wind carries him away, and he is gone,For it whirls him (X)away from his place.

21 An east wind picks him up, and he is gone;it carries him away from his place.

21 He'll be swept up by a storm wind and carried away; he'll be whirled away from his place.

22 For he shall cast upon him and not spare: fleeing, he will flee from his hand.

22 For God shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.

22 “For it will hurl at him (Y)without sparing;He will surely try to (Z)flee from its (m)power.

22 It blasts at him without mercy,while he flees desperately from its grasp.

22 It will toss him around without pity. He'll try to break free from its grip,

23 It shall be clapped upon him with their hands, and it shall be hissed upon him from his place.

23 Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

23 “Men will clap their hands at himAnd will (AA)hiss him from his place.

23 It claps(P) its hands at himand scorns him from its place.

23 but it will clap its hands over him, hissing at him as it lunges toward him."
