1 At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved out of his place.

1 “At this also my heart trembles,And leaps from its place.

1 My heart(A) pounds at thisand leaps from my chest.(a)

1 "Now I'll conclude with this: my heart is trembling violently; it feels like it's about to leap from my body!

2 “Listen carefully to the thunder of His voice,And the rumbling that goes out of His mouth!

2 Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth.

2 “Listen closely to the (A)thunder of His voice,And the rumbling that goes out from His mouth.

2 Just listen to His thunderous voiceand the rumbling that comes from His mouth.

3 “He lets it loose under the whole heaven,And His lightning to the ends of the earth.

3 He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

3 “Under the whole heaven He lets it loose,And His (a)lightning to the (B)ends of the earth.

3 He lets it loose beneath the entire sky;His lightning to the ends(B) of the earth.

3 He releases his lightning throughout the sky, to the ends of the earth.

4 “After it, His voice roars; He thunders with the voice of His majesty,And He does not restrain His lightning [against His adversaries] when His voice is heard.

4 After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.

4 “After it, a voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice,And He does not restrain (b)the lightnings when His voice is heard.

4 Then there comes a roaring sound;God thunders(C) with His majestic voice. He does not restrain the lightningwhen His rumbling voice is heard.

4 His thunder roars after it; his majestic voice will thunder; and no one can trace them once his voice has been heard.

5 God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.

5 “God (C)thunders with His voice wondrously,Doing (D)great things which we cannot comprehend.

5 God thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things that we cannot comprehend.

5 "God thunders with his wondrous voice; he does awesome works that we don't comprehend.

6 “For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth’;And [He speaks] to the showers and to the downpour [of His mighty rains], ‘Be strong.’

6 For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.

6 “For to (E)the snow He says, ‘Fall on the earth,’And to the (c)(F)downpour and the rain, ‘Be strong.’

6 For He says to the snow,(D) “Fall to the earth,”and the torrential rains, His mighty torrential rains,

6 For he says to the snow, "Fall to the earth.' He tells the rain, "Pour down,' then it rains profusely.

7 “God seals (brings to a standstill, stops) [by severe weather] the hand of every man,That all men [whom He has made] may know His work [that is, His sovereign power and their subjection to it].

7 He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.

7 “He (G)seals the hand of every man,That (H)all men may know His work.

7 serve as His sign to all mankind,so that all men may know His work.

7 "He puts a limit to the skill of every person; to delineate all people from what they do.

8 Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.

8 “Then the beast goes into its (I)lairAnd remains in its (d)den.

8 The wild animals enter their lairsand stay in their dens.(E)

8 "Then a beast enters its lair and remains in its den.

9 “Out of its chamber comes the storm,And cold from the north wind.

9 Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.

9 “Out of the (e)(J)south comes the storm,And out of the (f)north the cold.

9 The windstorm comes from its chamber, and the cold from the driving north winds.

9 "From the south, a whirlwind proceeds, out of the icy north winds.

10 “Ice is made by the breath of God,And the expanse of the waters is frozen.(A)

10 By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.

10 “From the breath of God (K)ice is made,And the expanse of the waters is frozen.

10 Ice is formed by the breath of God,(F)and watery expanses are frozen.

10 From the breath of God ice is produced, and a wide body of water is frozen.

11 “He loads the thick cloud with moisture; He disperses the cloud of His lightning.

11 Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:

11 “Also with moisture He (L)loads the thick cloud; He (M)disperses (N)the cloud of His (g)lightning.

11 He saturates clouds with moisture;(G)He scatters His lightning through them.

11 He also loads the clouds with moisture, scattering his lightning with the clouds.

12 “Its direction is turned around by His guidance,That it may do whatever He commands itOn the face of the inhabited earth.

12 And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.

12 “It changes direction, turning around by His guidance,That (h)it may do whatever He (O)commands (i)itOn the (P)face of the inhabited earth.

12 They swirl about, turning round and round at His direction, accomplishing everything He commands themover the surface of the inhabited world.

12 It whirls about in circles at his direction to accomplish all that he commands throughout the surface of the entire world,

13 “Whether [it be] for correction, or for His earth [generally]Or for [His] mercy and lovingkindness, He causes it to happen.(B)

13 He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.

13 “Whether for (j)(Q)correction, or for (R)His world,Or for (S)lovingkindness, He causes it to (k)happen.

13 He causes this to happen for punishment, for His land, or for His faithful love.

13 whether for discipline on his land or to demonstrate his gracious love, he causes it to be realized."

14 “Listen to this, Job;Stand still and consider the wonders of God.

14 Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.

14 “Listen to this, O Job,Stand and consider the wonders of God.

14 Listen to this, Job.Stop and consider God’s wonders.

14 "Pay attention to this, Job! Stand still, and consider the wondrous attributes of God.

15 “Do you know how God establishes and commands them,And makes the lightning of His [storm] cloud shine?

15 Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?

15 “Do you know how God establishes them,And makes the (l)lightning of His cloud to shine?

15 Do you know how God directs His cloudsor makes their lightning flash?

15 Do you know how God ordains them, and makes his lightning to flash throughout his clouds?

16 “Do you know about the layers of thick clouds [and how they are balanced and poised in the heavens],The wonderful works of Him who is perfect in knowledge,

16 Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?

16 “Do you know about the layers of the thick clouds,The (T)wonders of one (U)perfect in knowledge,

16 Do you understand how the clouds float, those wonderful works of Him who has perfect knowledge?

16 Do you understand his wondrous work of balancing the clouds, the one whose knowledge is perfect,

17 You whose garments are hot,When He quiets the earth [in sultry summer] with the [oppressive] south wind?

17 How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?

17 You whose garments are hot,When the land is still because of the south wind?

17 You whose clothes get hotwhen the south wind brings calm to the land,

17 you whose garments are hot, even though the land is cooled by a south wind?

18 “Can you, with Him, spread out the sky,Strong as a molten mirror?

18 Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

18 “Can you, with Him, (V)spread out the skies,Strong as a molten mirror?

18 can you help God spread out the skiesas hard as a cast metal mirror?

18 Can you spread out the skies like he does; can you cast them as one might a mirror?

19 “Tell us [Job] what words [of man] shall we say to such a Being; We cannot state our case because of darkness [that is, our ignorance in the presence of the unsearchable God].

19 Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.

19 “Teach us what we shall say to Him;We (W)cannot arrange our case because of darkness.

19 Teach us what we should say to Him;(H)we cannot prepare our case because of our darkness.

19 Tell us! What are we to say to him? Can we prepare our case to face him when our faces are in darkness?

20 “So shall it be told Him that I wish to speak?Or should a man say that he would be swallowed up [and destroyed by God]?

20 Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.

20 “Shall it be told Him that I would speak?(m)Or should a man say that he would be swallowed up?

20 Should He be told that I want to speak? Can a man speak when he is confused?

20 Has it been relayed to God that I want to talk? Can a person speak when he is confused?"

21 “Now people cannot look at the light when it is bright in the skies [without being blinded],When the wind has passed and cleared them.

21 And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.

21 “Now (n)men do not see the light which is bright in the skies; But the wind has passed and cleared them.

21 Now men cannot even look at the sunwhen it is in the skies, after a wind has swept through and cleared them away.

21 "So then, the sun is too bright to gaze at, is it not? The sky is swept clean by the wind that blows, is it not?

22 “Out of the north comes golden splendor [and people can hardly look on it];Around God is awesome splendor and majesty [far too glorious for man’s eyes].

22 Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible majesty.

22 “Out of the north comes golden splendor;Around God is awesome majesty.

22 Yet out of the north He comes, shrouded in a golden glow;awesome(I) majesty surrounds Him.

22 From the north he brings gold; around God is awesome splendor.

23 “The Almighty—we cannot find Him;He is exalted in powerAnd He will not do violence to [nor disregard] justice and abundant righteousness.(C)

23 Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.

23 “The Almighty—(X)we cannot find Him;He is (Y)exalted in powerAnd (Z)He will not do violence (AA)to justice and abundant righteousness.

23 The Almighty—we cannot reach Him—He is exalted in power! He will not oppress justice and abundant righteousness,

23 We cannot find the Almighty he is majestic in power and justice, and overflowing with righteousness; he never oppresses.

24 “Men therefore fear Him;He does not regard nor respect any who are wise in heart [in their own understanding and conceit].”(D)

24 Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.

24 “Therefore men (AB)fear Him;He does not (AC)regard any who are wise of heart.”

24 Therefore, men fear Him.He does not look favorably on any who are wise(J) in heart.

24 Therefore humanity fears him, which none of the wise can quite comprehend."
