1 I know that, all things, thou canst do, and that no purpose can be withholden from thee.

1 Then Job answered the LORD, and said,

1 Then Job answered the Lord and said,

1 Then Job replied to the Lord:

1 Job replied to the LORD:

2 Who is it that hideth counsel without knowledge? Therefore, have I declared, but not understood, things too wonderful for me, which I could not know.

2 I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.

2 “I know that ()You can do all things,And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.

2 I() know that You can do anythingand no plan of Yours can be thwarted.()

2 "I know that you can do anything and nothing that you plan is impossible.

3 Hear thou, I pray thee, and, I, will speak, I will ask thee, and inform thou me.

3 Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.

3 ‘Who is this that ()hides counsel without knowledge?’Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand,Things ()too wonderful for me, which I did not know.”

3 You asked, “Who is this who conceals My counsel with ignorance?”()Surely I spoke about things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to() know.()

3 You asked, "Who is this that darkens counsel without knowledge?' Well now, I have talked about what I don't understand awesome things beyond me that I don't know.

4 By the hearing of the ear, had I heard thee, but, now, mine own eye, hath seen thee.

4 Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

4 ‘Hear, now, and I will speak;I will ()ask You, and You instruct me.’

4 You said, “Listen now, and I will speak. When I question() you, you will inform Me.”

4 Listen now, and I will speak for myself; I'll interrogate you and then inform me.

5 For this cause, I tremble and repent, on dust and ashes.

5 I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.

5 “I have ()heard of You by the hearing of the ear;But now my ()eye sees You;

5 I had heard rumors about You,but now my eyes() have seen You.

5 I've heard you with my ears; and now I've seen you with my eyes.

The Lord Rebukes Job's Friends

6 And it came to pass, after Yahweh had spoken these words unto Job, that Yahweh, said unto Eliphaz the Temanite, Kindled is mine anger against thee and against thy two friends, for ye have not spoken concerning me the thing that is right, like my servant Job.

6 Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

6 Therefore I retract,And I repent in dust and ashes.”

6 Therefore I take back my wordsand repent in dust and ashes.()

6 As a result, I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes."

7 Now, therefore, take unto you seven bullocks and seven rams, and go unto my servant Job, and ye shall offer up an ascending-sacrifice in your own behalf, and, Job my servant, shall pray over you, - for, him, will I accept, that I may not deal out to you disgrace, because ye have not spoken concerning me the thing that is right, like my servant Job.

7 And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.

7 It came about after the Lord had spoken these words to Job, that the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against you and against your two friends, because you have not spoken of Me what is right ()as My servant Job has.

7 After the Lord had finished speaking() to Job, He said to Eliphaz the Temanite: “I am angry with you and your two friends, for you have not spoken the truth about Me, as My servant Job has.

7 After these words had been spoken by the LORD to Job, the LORD spoke to Eliphaz from Teman: "My anger is burning against you along with your two friends, since you haven't spoken correctly about me, as did my servant Job.

8 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according to that which Yahweh had spoken unto them, - and Yahweh accepted Job.

8 Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

8 Now therefore, take for yourselves ()seven bulls and seven rams, and go to My servant Job, and offer up a ()burnt offering for yourselves, and My servant Job will ()pray for you. ()For I will ()accept him so that I may not do with you according to your folly, because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.”

8 Now take seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and offer a burnt offering for yourselves. Then My servant Job will pray for you.() I will surely accept his prayer and not deal with you as your folly deserves. For you have not spoken the truth about Me, as My servant Job has.”

8 So take seven bulls and seven rams and bring them to my servant Job. And bring a whole burnt offering for yourselves and my servant Job will pray for you. I'll encourage him by not responding as your disgraceful folly deserves, since you didn't speak about me correctly as did my servant Job."

God Restores Job

9 And, Yahweh himself, turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed in behalf of his friends, - and Yahweh increased all that Job had possessed, unto twice as much.

9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.

9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the Lord told them; and the Lord ()accepted Job.

9 Then Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the Lord had told them, and the Lord accepted Job’s prayer.

9 So Eliphaz from Teman, Bildad from Shuah, and Zophar from Naamath did precisely as the LORD had spoken to them, because the LORD showed favor to Job.

10 Then came unto him all his brethren and all his sisters, and all his former acquaintances, and they did eat bread with him in his house, - and shewed sympathy with him and comforted him, over all the calamity which Yahweh had brought upon him, - and they gave him, every one a weight of money, and every one, a ring of gold.

10 And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

10 The Lord ()restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the Lord increased all that Job had twofold.

10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his prosperity and doubled his previous possessions.()

10 The LORD restored Job's prosperity after he prayed for his friends. The LORD doubled everything that Job had once possessed.

11 And, Yahweh, blessed the latter end of Job, more than his beginning, - and so he came to have fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she-asses.

11 Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.

11 Then all his ()brothers and all his sisters and all who had known him before came to him, and they ate bread with him in his house; and they ()consoled him and comforted him for all the adversities that the Lord had brought on him. And each one gave him one ()piece of money, and each a ring of gold.

11 All his brothers, sisters, and former acquaintances() came to his house and dined with him in his house. They sympathized with him and comforted him concerning all the adversity the Lord had brought on him. Each one gave him a qesitah()() and a gold earring.()

11 Then all his brothers and sisters and all those who knew him before arrived. They ate food with him in his house, mourned for him, and consoled him for all the trouble that the LORD had brought and placed on him. Some gave him gold bullion and some brought gold earrings.

12 And he came to have seven sons, and three daughters;

12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.

12 ()The Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; ()and he had 14,000 sheep and 6,000 camels and 1,000 yoke of oxen and 1,000 female donkeys.

12 So the Lord blessed the last part of Job’s life more than the first. He owned 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.

12 The LORD blessed Job during the latter part of his life more than the former, since he owned 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen and 1,000 female donkeys.

13 and he called the name of the first Jemima, and the name of the second Kezia, - and the name of the third, Keren-happuch.

13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.

13 ()He had seven sons and three daughters.

13 He also had seven sons and three daughters.

13 He also had seven sons and three daughters.

14 And there were found no women so fair as the daughters of Job, in all the land, - and their father gave them an inheritance, in the midst of their brethren.

14 And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch.

14 He named the first Jemimah, and the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch.

14 He named his first daughter Jemimah, his second Keziah, and his third Keren-happuch.()

14 He named the first daughter Jemima, the second Keziah, and the name of the third was Keren-happuch.

15 And Job lived, after this, a hundred and forty years, - and saw his sons and his sons' sons, four generations.

15 And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.

15 In all the land no women were found so fair as Job’s daughters; and their father gave them inheritance among their brothers.

15 No women as beautiful as Job’s daughters could be found in all the land, and their father granted them an inheritance with their brothers.

15 No one could find more beautiful women in the whole land than Job's daughters. Their father gave them their inheritance along with their brothers.

16 So Job died, old and satisfied with days.

16 After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations.

16 After this, Job lived 140 years, and saw his sons and his grandsons, four generations.

16 Job lived 140 years after this and saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.

16 Job lived 140 years after this, and saw his children and grandchildren to the fourth generation.
