Joshua Addresses The Israelites

1 After the death of Moses, the servant of the LORD, the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

1 Now it came about after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ (a)servant, saying,

1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

1 After the death of Moses(A) the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua(a) son of Nun,(B) who had served Moses:

1 After Moses, the servant of the LORD, had died, the LORD spoke to Nun's son Joshua, announcing to him,

2 "Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore, up and go over Jordan, both thou and all this people, unto the land the which I give unto the children of Israel.

2 “Moses (A)My servant is dead; now therefore arise, (B)cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel.

2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

2 “Moses My servant is dead.(C) Now you and all the people prepare to cross over the Jordan(D) to the land I am giving the Israelites.

2 "My servant Moses is dead. Now get ready to cross the Jordan River you and all the people to the land that I'm giving the Israelis.

3 All the places that the soles of your feet shall tread upon, have I given you, as I said unto Moses:

3 (C)Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses.

3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

3 I have given you every place where the sole of your foot treads,(E) just as I promised Moses.

3 I'm giving you every place where the sole of your foot falls, just as I promised Moses.

4 from the wilderness and this Lebanon unto the great river Euphrates; and all the land of the Hittites, even unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coasts.

4 (D)From the wilderness and this Lebanon, even as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and as far as the Great Sea toward the setting of the sun will be your territory.

4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

4 Your territory will be from the wilderness and Lebanon(F) to the great Euphrates River—all the land of the Hittites(G)—and west to the Mediterranean Sea.(b)(H)

4 Your territorial border will extend from the wilderness to the Lebanon Mountains, to the river that great River Euphrates all the land of the Hittites as far as the Mediterranean Sea where the sun sets.

5 There shall not a man be able to withstand thee all the days of thy life. For as I was with Moses, so will I be with thee and will neither leave thee, nor forsake thee.

5 (E)No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; (F)I will not fail you or forsake you.

5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

5 No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live.(I) I will be with you, just as I was with Moses. I will not leave you or forsake you.(J)

5 No one will be victorious against you for the rest of your life. I'll be with you just like I was with Moses I'll neither fail you nor abandon you.

6 Be strong and bold: for unto this people shalt thou divide the land which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

6 (G)Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.

6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

6 “Be strong and courageous,(K) for you will distribute the land I swore to their fathers to give them as an inheritance.(L)

6 "Be strong and courageous, because you'll be leading this people to inherit the land that I promised to give their ancestors.

7 Above all things, be strong and harden thyself, to observe and to do according to all the laws which Moses my servant commanded thee. Turn there from neither to the righthand, nor to the left: that thou mayest have understanding in all thou takest in hand.

7 Only be strong and very courageous; (b)(H)be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may (c)have success wherever you go.

7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

7 Above all, be strong and very courageous to carefully observe the whole instruction My servant Moses commanded you.(M) Do not turn from it to the right or the left, so that you will have success wherever you go.

7 Only be strong and very courageous to ensure that you obey all the instructions that my servant Moses gave you turn neither to the right nor to the left from it so that you may succeed wherever you go.

8 Let not the book of this law depart out of thy mouth: but record therein day and night that thou mayest be circumspect to do according to all that is written therein. For then shalt thou make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have understanding.

8 (I)This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may (d)be careful to do according to all that is written in it; (J)for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will (e)have success.

8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

8 This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth;(N) you are to recite(c) it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do.(O)

8 This set of instructions is not to cease being a part of your conversations. Meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to carry out everything that's written in it, for then you'll prosper and succeed.

9 Behold, I have said unto thee, be strong and bold: neither fear, nor dread. For the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

9 Have I not commanded you? (K)Be strong and courageous! (L)Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

9 Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous?(P) Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

9 I've commanded you, haven't I? Be strong and courageous. Don't be fearful or discouraged, because the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."

Joshua Prepares The People

10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

10 Then Joshua gave orders to the officials of the people.

11 "Go through the midst of the host, and command the people, saying, 'Prepare you victuals: for after three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go and enjoy the land which the LORD your God giveth you, to possess it.'"

11 “Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within (M)three days you are to cross this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the Lord your God is giving you, to possess it.’”

11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.

11 “Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get provisions ready for yourselves, for within three days you will be crossing the Jordan to go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you to inherit.’”(Q)

11 "Go through the camp," he said, "and command the people, "Prepare provisions for yourselves, because within three days you'll be crossing the Jordan River to take possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving you so go get it!'"

12 And unto the Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh spake Joshua, saying,

12 (N)To the Reubenites and to the Gadites and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua (f)said,

12 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,

12 Joshua said to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh:(R)

12 Joshua told the descendants of Reuben, the descendants of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh,

13 "Remember that which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, 'The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.

13 “Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘(O)The Lord your God gives you rest and will give you this land.’

13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.

13 “Remember what Moses the Lord’s servant commanded you when he said, ‘The Lord your God will give you rest, and He will give you this land.’(S)

13 "Remember what Moses commanded you when he said, "The LORD your God will provide you rest, as well as this land.'

14 Let your wives, your children and your cattle remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan: But go ye before your brethren armed, all that be men of war, and help them

14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle shall remain in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan, but you shall cross before your brothers in battle array, all your valiant warriors, and shall help them,

14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;

14 Your wives, young children, and livestock may remain in the land Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan.(d) But your fighting men must cross over in battle formation(e) ahead of your brothers(f) and help them

14 Your wives, your young children, and your livestock will remain in the land that Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan River, but you and all your warriors will cross, ready for battle, in full view of your relatives, and you will help them

15 until the LORD hath given your brethren rest, as he hath you, and until they also have obtained the land which the LORD your God giveth them. And then return unto the land of your possession and enjoy it, which land Moses the LORD's servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sun rising."

15 until the Lord gives your brothers rest, as He gives you, and they also possess the land which the Lord your God is giving them. (P)Then you shall return to (g)your own land, and possess (h)that which Moses (Q)the servant of the Lord gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.”

15 Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD'S servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.

15 until the Lord gives your brothers rest, as He has given you, and they too possess the land the Lord your God is giving them. You may then return to the land of your inheritance(T) and take possession of what Moses the Lord’s servant(U) gave you on the east side of the Jordan.”

15 until the LORD gives relief to your relatives, as he did to you. Then they'll take the land that the LORD your God is giving them as their inheritance. You'll return to the land of your heritage and receive the inheritance that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the east side of the Jordan River, in the direction of the sunrise."

16 And they answered Joshua, saying, "All that thou biddest us, we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.

16 They answered Joshua, saying, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.

16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.

16 They answered Joshua, “Everything you have commanded us we will do, and everywhere you send us we will go.

16 "We'll do everything that you commanded," they replied. "We'll go wherever you send us.

17 According as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey thee; only the LORD thy God be with thee as he was with Moses.

17 Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you; only (R)may the Lord your God be with you as He was with Moses.

17 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

17 We will obey you, just as we obeyed Moses in everything. And may the Lord your God be with you, as He was with Moses.(V)

17 We'll listen and obey you in everything, just like we did with Moses. Only may the LORD your God be with you, just as he was with Moses.

18 And whosoever disobey thy mouth, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, let him die: Only be strong and of good courage."

18 Anyone who rebels against your (i)command and does not obey your words in all that you command him, shall be put to death; only be strong and courageous.”

18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.

18 Anyone who rebels against your order and does not obey your words in all that you command him, will be put to death. Above all, be strong and courageous!”(W)

18 Anyone who rebels against what you say and doesn't listen to your words regarding everything that you command will be executed. Only be strong and courageous."
