Instructions About Bodily Discharges

1 And the Lord said to Moses and to Aaron,

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying,

1 The Lord also spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

1 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron:

1 The LORD told Moses and Aaron,

2 Say to the children of Israel: If a man has an unclean flow from his flesh, it will make him unclean.

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When any man hath a running issue out of his flesh, because of his issue he is unclean.

2 “Speak to the sons of Israel, and say to them, ‘(A)When any man has a discharge from his (a)body, (b)his discharge is unclean.

2 “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When any man has a discharge(A) from his body, he is unclean.

2 "Tell the Israelis that when a man has a discharge from his body, his discharge is unclean,

3 If the flow goes on or if the part is stopped up, to keep back the flow, he is still unclean.

3 And this shall be his uncleanness in his issue: whether his flesh run with his issue, or his flesh be stopped from his issue, it is his uncleanness.

3 This, moreover, shall be his uncleanness in his discharge: it is his uncleanness whether his body allows its discharge to flow or whether his body obstructs its discharge.

3 This is uncleanness of his discharge: Whether his body secretes the discharge or retains it, he is unclean. All the days that his body secretes or retains anything because of his discharge,(a) he is unclean.(b)

3 and this is the cause of his uncleanness his discharge. Whether his body is releasing the discharge or his body has stopped the discharge, he's unclean.

4 Every bed on which he has been resting will be unclean, and everything on which he has been seated will be unclean.

4 Every bed, whereon he lieth that hath the issue, is unclean: and every thing, whereon he sitteth, shall be unclean.

4 Every bed on which the person with the discharge lies becomes unclean, and everything on which he sits becomes unclean.

4 Any bed the man with the discharge lies on will be unclean, and any furniture he sits on will be unclean.

4 Every bed on which he lies down with the discharge is to be considered unclean, and every object on which he sits becomes unclean.

5 And anyone touching his bed is to have his clothing washed and his body bathed in water and be unclean till evening.

5 And whosoever toucheth his bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

5 Anyone, moreover, who touches his bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening;

5 Anyone who touches his bed is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

5 Any person who touches his bed is to wash his garments and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

6 And he who has been seated on anything on which the unclean man has been seated is to have his clothing washed and his body bathed in water and be unclean till evening.

6 And he that sitteth on any thing whereon he sat that hath the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

6 and whoever sits on the thing on which the man with the discharge has been sitting, shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.

6 Whoever sits on furniture that the man with the discharge was sitting on is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

6 Whoever sits on any object on which the one with the discharge has sat is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

7 And anyone touching the flesh of the unclean man is to have his clothing washed and his body bathed in water and be unclean till evening.

7 And he that toucheth the flesh of him that hath the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

7 Also whoever touches the (c)person with the discharge shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.

7 Whoever touches the body of the man with a discharge is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

7 "Whoever touches the body of someone with a discharge is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

8 And if liquid from the mouth of the unclean man comes on to him who is clean, then he is to have his clothing washed and his body bathed in water and be unclean till evening.

8 And if he that hath the issue spit upon him that is clean; then he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

8 Or if the man with the discharge spits on one who is clean, he too shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.

8 If the man with the discharge spits on anyone who is clean, he is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

8 Whoever has a discharge and spits on someone who is clean, then he is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

9 And any leather seat on a horse on which the unclean man has been seated will be unclean.

9 And what saddle soever he rideth upon that hath the issue shall be unclean.

9 Every saddle on which the person with the discharge rides becomes unclean.

9 Any saddle the man with the discharge rides on will be unclean.(B)

9 "Any saddle that anyone with a discharge rides on will become unclean.

10 And anyone touching anything which was under him will be unclean till the evening; anyone taking up any of these things is to have his clothing washed and his body bathed in water and be unclean till evening.

10 And whosoever toucheth any thing that was under him shall be unclean until the even: and he that beareth any of those things shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

10 Whoever then touches any of the things which were under him shall be unclean until evening, and he who carries them shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.

10 Whoever touches anything that was under him will be unclean until evening, and whoever carries such things is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

10 Whoever touches anything that was under him will be unclean until evening. Whoever carries these things is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

11 And anyone on whom the unclean man puts his hands, without washing them in water, is to have his clothing washed and his body bathed in water and be unclean till evening.

11 And whomsoever he toucheth that hath the issue, and hath not rinsed his hands in water, he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

11 Likewise, whomever the one with the discharge touches without having rinsed his hands in water shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.

11 If the man with the discharge touches anyone without first rinsing his hands in water,(C) the person who was touched is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

11 "Anyone whom the one with the discharge touches without rinsing his hands with water is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

12 And any vessel of earth which has been touched by the unclean man will have to be broken and any vessel of wood washed.

12 And the vessel of earth, that he toucheth which hath the issue, shall be broken: and every vessel of wood shall be rinsed in water.

12 However, an (B)earthenware vessel which the person with the discharge touches shall be broken, and every wooden vessel shall be rinsed in water.

12 Any clay pot that the man with the discharge touches must be broken, while any wooden utensil must be rinsed with water.(D)

12 The earthen vessel that the person with the discharge touches is to be broken in pieces, and every wooden vessel is to be rinsed with water."

Purity Regulations For Male Bodily Discharges

13 And when a man who has a flow from his body is made clean from it, he is to take seven days to make himself clean, washing his clothing and bathing his body in flowing water, and then he will be clean.

13 And when he that hath an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean.

13 ‘Now when the man with the discharge becomes cleansed from his discharge, then he (C)shall count off for himself seven days for his cleansing; he shall then wash his clothes and bathe his body in (d)running water and will become clean.

13 “When the man with the discharge has been cured of it, he is to count seven days for his cleansing, wash his clothes, and bathe his body in fresh water; he will be clean.

13 "When the one with the discharge is cleansed from his discharge, then he is to set aside for himself seven days for his cleansing. He is to wash his clothes and bathe with flowing water. Then he will be clean.

14 And on the eighth day he is to take two doves or two young pigeons and come before the Lord to the door of the Tent of meeting and give them to the priest:

14 And on the eighth day he shall take to him two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, and come before the LORD unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and give them unto the priest:

14 Then on the eighth day he shall take for himself (D)two turtledoves or two young pigeons, and come before the Lord to the doorway of the tent of meeting and give them to the priest;

14 He must take two turtledoves or two young pigeons on the eighth day, come before the Lord at the entrance to the tent of meeting, and give them to the priest.

14 On the eighth day, he is to take for himself two turtledoves or two young doves, bring them to the LORD at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, and give them to the priest.

15 And they are to be offered by the priest, one for a sin-offering and one for a burned offering, and the priest will take away his sin before the Lord on account of his flow.

15 And the priest shall offer them, the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him before the LORD for his issue.

15 and the priest shall offer them, (E)one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. So (F)the priest shall make atonement on his behalf before the Lord because of his discharge.

15 The priest is to sacrifice them, one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering.(E) In this way the priest will make atonement for him before the Lord because of his discharge.

15 Then the priest is to offer them one for a sin offering and the other for a whole burnt offering. That's how the priest will make atonement for him in the LORD's presence regarding his discharge."

16 And if a man's seed goes out from him, then all his body will have to be bathed in water and he will be unclean till evening.

16 And if any man's seed of copulation go out from him, then he shall wash all his flesh in water, and be unclean until the even.

16 (G)Now if a (e)man has a seminal emission, he shall bathe all his body in water and be unclean until evening.

16 “When a man has an emission of semen,(F) he is to bathe himself completely with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

16 "If a man has a seminal emission, he is to bathe his entire body with water and remain unclean until evening.

17 And any clothing or skin on which the seed comes is to be washed with water and be unclean till evening.

17 And every garment, and every skin, whereon is the seed of copulation, shall be washed with water, and be unclean until the even.

17 As for any garment or any leather on which there is seminal emission, it shall be washed with water and be unclean until evening.

17 Any clothing or leather on which there is an emission of semen must be washed with water, and it will remain unclean until evening.

17 Every garment (including leather) on which the semen is found is to be washed with water, and it will remain unclean until evening.

18 And if a man has sex relations with a woman and his seed goes out from him, the two of them will have to be bathed in water and will be unclean till evening.

18 The woman also with whom man shall lie with seed of copulation, they shall both bathe themselves in water, and be unclean until the even.

18 If a man lies with a woman so that there is a seminal emission, they shall both bathe in water and be (H)unclean until evening.

18 If a man sleeps with a woman and has an emission of semen, both of them are to bathe with water, and they will remain unclean until evening.(G)

18 When a man has sexual relations with a woman and the man releases semen, both are to bathe with water, and they will remain unclean until evening."

Female Bodily Discharges

19 And if a woman has a flow of blood from her body, she will have to be kept separate for seven days, and anyone touching her will be unclean till evening.

19 And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even.

19 (I)When a woman has a discharge, if her discharge in her body is blood, she shall continue in her menstrual impurity for seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening.

19 “When a woman has a discharge, and it consists of blood from her body, she will be unclean because of her menstruation(H) for seven days. Everyone who touches her will be unclean until evening.

19 "When a woman has a discharge, and the blood is her monthly menstrual discharge from her body, then for seven days she is to remain in her menstrual uncleanness. Whoever touches her will remain unclean until evening.

20 And everything on which she has been resting, while she is kept separate, will be unclean, and everything on which she has been seated will be unclean.

20 And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean.

20 Everything also on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean, and everything on which she sits shall be unclean.

20 Anything she lies on during her menstruation will become unclean, and anything she sits on will become unclean.

20 Everything that she sleeps on during her uncleanness will be unclean. Moreover, everything that she sits on will become unclean.

21 And anyone touching her bed will have to have his clothing washed and his body bathed in water and be unclean till evening.

21 And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

21 Anyone who touches her bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.

21 Everyone who touches her bed is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

22 Everyone who touches any furniture she was sitting on is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

22 Anyone who touches any of the objects on which she has sat is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

23 Anyone touching anything on the bed or on the thing on which she has been seated, will be unclean till evening.

23 And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even.

23 Whether it be on the bed or on the thing on which she is sitting, when he touches it, he shall be unclean until evening.

23 If discharge is on the bed or the furniture she was sitting on, when he touches it he will be unclean until evening.

23 Any bed or other object on which she sat that he touches will make him unclean until evening.

24 And if any man has sex relations with her so that her blood comes on him, he will be unclean for seven days and every bed on which he has been resting will be unclean.

24 And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.

24 (J)If a man actually lies with her so that her menstrual impurity is on him, he shall be unclean seven days, and every bed on which he lies shall be unclean.

24 If a man sleeps with her, and blood from her menstruation gets on him, he will be unclean for seven days, and every bed he lies on will become unclean.(I)

24 When a man has sexual relations with her and her menstrual uncleanness touches him, he will be unclean for seven days. Every bed where he sleeps will remain unclean.

25 And if a woman has a flow of blood for a long time, not at the time when she generally has it, or if the flow goes on longer than the normal time, she will be unclean while the flow of blood goes on, as she is at other normal times.

25 And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she shall be unclean.

25 (K)Now if a woman has a discharge of her blood many days, not at the period of her menstrual impurity, or if she has a discharge beyond (f)that period, all the days of her impure discharge she shall continue as though (g)in her menstrual impurity; she is unclean.

25 “When a woman has a discharge of her blood for many days, though it is not the time of her menstruation, or if she has a discharge beyond her period, she will be unclean all the days of her unclean discharge, as she is during the days of her menstruation.

25 "When a woman has a continuous discharge of blood many days beyond the time of her menstrual uncleanness, or if she has a discharge that lasts beyond the days of her menstrual uncleanness, her uncleanness is to be treated like the days of her menstruation she's unclean.

26 Every bed on which she has been resting will be unclean, as at the times when she normally has a flow of blood, and everything on which she has been seated will be unclean, in the same way.

26 Every bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation: and whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation.

26 Any bed on which she lies all the days of her discharge shall be to her like (h)her bed at menstruation; and every thing on which she sits shall be unclean, like (i)her uncleanness at that time.

26 Any bed she lies on during the days of her discharge will be like her bed during menstrual impurity; any furniture she sits on will be unclean as in her menstrual period.

26 Every bed on which she sleeps the whole time she has the discharge will be her own unclean bed, so that every object on which she sits becomes unclean like her menstrual uncleanness.

27 And anyone touching these things will be unclean, and his clothing will have to be washed and his body bathed in water and he will be unclean till evening.

27 And whosoever toucheth those things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

27 Likewise, whoever touches them shall be unclean and shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.

27 Everyone who touches them will be unclean; he must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will remain unclean until evening.

27 Whoever touches them will become unclean. He is to wash his clothes and bathe with water and he will remain unclean until evening.

Purity Regulations From Female Bodily Discharges

28 But when her flow of blood is stopped, after seven days she will be clean.

28 But if she be cleansed of her issue, then she shall number to herself seven days, and after that she shall be clean.

28 When she becomes clean from her discharge, she shall count off for herself seven days; and afterward she will be clean.

28 When she is cured of her discharge, she is to count seven days, and after that she will be clean.(J)

28 "If she becomes clean with her discharge, then she is to count for herself seven days, after which she becomes clean.

29 And on the eighth day let her get two doves or two young pigeons and take them to the priest to the door of the Tent of meeting,

29 And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtles, or two young pigeons, and bring them unto the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

29 Then on the eighth day she shall take for herself two turtledoves or two young pigeons and bring them in to the priest, to the doorway of the tent of meeting.

30 The priest shall offer the (L)one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. So the priest shall make atonement on her behalf before the Lord because of her impure discharge.’

30 The priest is to sacrifice one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for her before the Lord because of her unclean discharge.

30 Then the priest is to offer one for a sin offering and the other for a whole burnt offering. This is how the priest will make atonement in the LORD's presence for her regarding her unclean discharge.

Summary Of Purification Regulations For Bodily Discharges

31 In this way may the children of Israel be made free from all sorts of unclean conditions, so that death may not overtake them when they are unclean and when they make unclean my holy place which is among them.

31 Thus shall ye separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that is among them.

31 “Thus you shall keep the sons of Israel separated from their uncleanness, so that they will not die in their uncleanness by their (M)defiling My (j)tabernacle that is among them.”

31 “You must keep the Israelites from their uncleanness, so that they do not die by defiling My tabernacle(K) that is among them.

31 "So separate the Israelis from their uncleanness so that they won't die in their uncleanness if they defile my tent that is in their midst.

32 This is the law for the man who has a flow from his body, or whose seed goes from him so that he is unclean;

32 This is the law of him that hath an issue, and of him whose seed goeth from him, and is defiled therewith;

32 This is the law for the one with a discharge, and for the man (k)who has a seminal emission so that he is unclean by it,

32 This is the law for someone with a discharge: a man who has an emission of semen, becoming unclean by it;

32 These are the regulations for one whose discharge of semen causes him to become unclean because of it,

33 And for her who has a flow of blood, and for any man or woman who has an unclean flow, and for him who has sex relations with a woman when she is unclean.

33 And of her that is sick of her flowers, and of him that hath an issue, of the man, and of the woman, and of him that lieth with her that is unclean.

33 and for the woman who is ill because of menstrual impurity, and for the one who has a discharge, whether a male or a female, or a man who lies with an unclean woman.

33 a woman who is in her menstrual period; anyone who has a discharge, whether male or female; and a man who sleeps with an unclean woman.”

33 for her whose menstruation causes her to become ill, for anyone who has a discharge (whether male or female), and for the man who has sexual relations with one who is unclean."
