Yahweh Is Holy

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.

2 “Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘(A)You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

2 “Speak to the entire Israelite community and tell them: Be holy(A) because I, Yahweh your God, am holy.(B)

2 "Tell the entire assembly of Israel that they are to be holy, since I, the LORD your God, am holy.

2 “Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel, ‘You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.(A)

3 Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God.

3 Every one of you (B)shall reverence his mother and his father, and you shall keep (C)My sabbaths; (D)I am the Lord your God.

3 “Each of you is to respect his mother and father.(C) You are to keep My Sabbaths; I am Yahweh your God.

3 "Each of you is to fear his mother and father. "Observe my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God.

3 Each of you shall (a)respect his mother and his father, and you shall keep My Sabbaths; I am the Lord your God.

4 Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the LORD your God.

4 Do not turn to (E)idols or make for yourselves molten (F)gods; I am the Lord your God.

4 Do not turn to idols(D) or make cast images(E) of gods for yourselves;(F) I am Yahweh your God.

4 "You are not to turn to their idols or cast gods out of melted metal for yourselves. I am the LORD your God.

Eating The Peace Offering

5 And if ye offer a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD, ye shall offer it at your own will.

5 ‘Now when you offer a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord, you shall offer it so that you may be accepted.

5 “When you offer a fellowship sacrifice to the Lord, sacrifice it so that you may be accepted.

5 "When you offer a peace offering to the LORD, you are to offer it for your acceptance.

5 ‘Now when you offer a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord, you shall offer it so that you may be accepted.

6 It shall be eaten the same day ye offer it, and on the morrow: and if ought remain until the third day, it shall be burnt in the fire.

6 It shall be eaten the same day you offer it, and the next day; but what remains until the third day shall be burned with fire.

6 It is to be eaten on the day you sacrifice it or on the next day, but what remains on the third day must be burned up.(G)

6 Your sacrifice is to be eaten on that day and the next day. Anything that remains to the third day is to be incinerated.

6 It shall be eaten the same day you offer it and on the day following; and if anything remains until the third day, it shall be burned in the fire.

7 And if it be eaten at all on the third day, it is abominable; it shall not be accepted.

7 So if it is eaten at all on the third day, it is an offense; it will not be accepted.

7 If any is eaten on the third day, it is a repulsive thing; it will not be accepted.(H)

7 If it is eaten on the third day, it's unclean. It won't be accepted.

7 But if it is eaten at all on the third day, it is repulsive; it will not be accepted [by God as an offering].

8 Therefore every one that eateth it shall bear his iniquity, because he hath profaned the hallowed thing of the LORD: and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

8 Everyone who eats it will bear his iniquity, for he has profaned the holy thing of the Lord; and that person shall be cut off from his people.

8 Anyone who eats it will bear his punishment, for he has profaned what is holy to the Lord. That person must be cut off from his people.(I)

8 Anyone who eats it will bear the punishment of his sin, since he will have defiled himself regarding the LORD's holy things. That person is to be eliminated from contact with his people."

8 Everyone who eats it will bear [the responsibility for] his wickedness, for he has profaned a holy thing of the Lord; and that person shall be cut off from his people [excluding him from the atonement made for them].

Love Your Neighbor As Yourself

9 And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest.

9 (G)Now when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest.

9 “When you reap the harvest of your land, you are not to reap to the very edge of your field or gather the gleanings(J) of your harvest.

9 "When you reap the harvest of your land, you are not to completely finish harvesting the corners of the field that is, you are not to pick what remains after you have reaped your harvest.

9 ‘Now when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings (grain left after reaping) of your harvest.

10 And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the LORD your God.

10 Nor shall you glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the needy and for the stranger. I am the Lord your God.

10 You must not strip your vineyard bare or gather its fallen grapes. Leave them for the poor(K) and the foreign resident;(L) I am Yahweh your God.

10 You are not to gather your vineyard or pick up the fallen grapes of your vineyard. Leave something for the poor and the resident alien who lives among you. I am the LORD your God."

10 And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather its fallen grapes; you shall leave them for the poor and for the stranger. I am the Lord your God.

Dealing Honestly

11 Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.

11 (H)You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, (I)nor lie to one another.

11 “You must not steal.(M) You must not act deceptively(N) or lie(O) to one another.

11 "You are not to steal or lie or deal falsely with your neighbor.

11 ‘You shall not steal, nor deal deceptively, nor lie to one another.(B)

12 And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.

12 (J)You shall not swear falsely by My name, so as to (K)profane the name of your God; I am the Lord.

12 You must not swear falsely by My name, profaning the name of your God;(P) I am Yahweh.

12 "You are not to use my name to deceive, thereby defiling the name of your God. I am the LORD.

12 You shall not swear [an oath] falsely by My name, so as to profane the name of your God; I am the Lord.

13 Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.

13 (L)You shall not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him. (M)The wages of a hired man are not to remain with you all night until morning.

13 “You must not oppress(Q) your neighbor or rob(R) him. The wages due a hired hand(S) must not remain with you until morning.

13 "You are not to oppress your neighbor or rob him. "The wages of a hired laborer are not to remain in your possession until morning.

13 ‘You shall not oppress or exploit your neighbor, nor rob him. You shall not withhold the wages of a hired man overnight until morning.

14 Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.

14 You shall not curse a deaf man, nor (N)place a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall revere your God; I am the Lord.

14 You must not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind,(T) but you are to fear your God;(U) I am Yahweh.(V)

14 "You are not to curse a deaf person or put a stumbling block before the blind. "You are to fear God. I am the LORD.

14 You shall not curse a deaf man nor put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God [with profound reverence]; I am the Lord.

Justice, Love, And Propriety

15 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

15 (O)You shall do no injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor nor defer to the great, but you are to judge your neighbor fairly.

15 “You must not act unjustly(W) when deciding a case. Do not be partial(X) to the poor or give preference to the rich;(Y) judge your neighbor fairly.

15 "You are not to be unjust in deciding a case. You are not to show partiality to the poor or honor the great. Instead, decide the case of your neighbor with righteousness."

15 ‘You shall not do injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor nor show a preference for the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.

16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.

16 You shall not go about as (P)a slanderer among your people, and you are not to (a)act against the (b)(Q)life of your neighbor; I am the Lord.

16 You must not go about spreading slander(Z) among your people; you must not jeopardize(a) your neighbor’s life; I am Yahweh.

16 "You are not to go around slandering your people. "You are not to stand idle when your neighbor's life is at stake. I am the LORD.

16 You shall not go around as a gossip among your people, and you are not to act against the life of your neighbor [with slander or false testimony]; I am the Lord.

17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

17 ‘You (R)shall not hate your (c)fellow countryman in your heart; you (S)may surely reprove your neighbor, but shall not incur sin because of him.

17 “You must not harbor hatred against your brother.(b)(AA) Rebuke your neighbor directly, and you will not incur guilt because of him.(AB)

17 "You are not to hate your relative in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor if you must, but you are not to incur guilt on account of him.

17 ‘You shall not hate your brother in your heart; you may most certainly rebuke your neighbor, but shall not incur sin because of him.(C)

18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

18 (T)You shall not take vengeance, (U)nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but (V)you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the Lord.

18 Do not take revenge(AC) or bear a grudge against members of your community, but love your neighbor as yourself;(AD) I am Yahweh.

18 "You are not to seek vengeance or hold a grudge against the descendants of your people. Instead, love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD."

18 You shall not take revenge nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor (acquaintance, associate, companion) as yourself; I am the Lord.(D)

You Shall Keep My Statutes

19 Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee.

19 ‘You are to keep My statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; (W)you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together.

19 “You are to keep My statutes. You must not crossbreed two different kinds of your livestock, sow your fields with two kinds of seed, or put on a garment made of two kinds of material.(AE)

19 "Observe my statutes. "You are not to let your cattle breed with a different species. "You are not to sow your fields with two different kinds of seeds. "You are not to wear clothing made from two different kinds of material.

19 ‘You are to keep My statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear clothing of two kinds of material mixed together.

Lying With A Slave Woman

20 And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid, betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she shall be scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free.

20 (X)Now if a man lies carnally with a woman who is a slave acquired for another man, but who has in no way been redeemed nor given her freedom, there shall be punishment; they shall not, however, be put to death, because she was not free.

20 “If a man has sexual intercourse with a woman who is a slave designated for another man, but she has not been redeemed(AF) or given her freedom, there must be punishment.(c) They are not to be put to death, because she had not been freed.

20 "When a person has sexual relations with a woman servant who is engaged to another man, but she has not been completely redeemed nor has her freedom been granted to her, there is to be an inquiry, but they won't be put to death, since she has not been freed.

20 ‘Now if a man has intimate relations with a woman who is a slave acquired for [marriage to] another man, but who has not been redeemed nor given her freedom, there shall be punishment [after an investigation]; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free;

21 And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, even a ram for a trespass offering.

21 He shall bring his guilt offering to the Lord to the doorway of the tent of meeting, (Y)a ram for a guilt offering.

21 However, he must bring a ram as his restitution offering to the Lord at the entrance to the tent of meeting.(AG)

21 The perpetrator is to bring his guilt offering to the LORD at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting that is, a ram as a guilt offering.

21 but he shall bring his guilt offering to the Lord to the doorway of the Tent of Meeting, a ram as a guilt offering.

22 And the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering before the LORD for his sin which he hath done: and the sin which he hath done shall be forgiven him.

22 The priest shall also make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before the Lord for his sin which he has committed, and the sin which he has committed will be forgiven him.

22 The priest will make atonement on his behalf before the Lord with the ram of the restitution offering for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven for the sin he committed.

22 Then the priest is to make atonement for him with the ram as a guilt offering in the LORD's presence on account of his sin which he has committed, but which will be forgiven him."

22 The priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before the Lord for his sin which he has committed; and he shall be forgiven for his sin.

The Produce Of Fruit Trees

23 And when ye shall come into the land, and shall have planted all manner of trees for food, then ye shall count the fruit thereof as uncircumcised: three years shall it be as uncircumcised unto you: it shall not be eaten of.

23 ‘When you enter the land and plant all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as (d)forbidden. Three years it shall be (e)forbidden to you; it shall not be eaten.

23 “When you come into the land and plant any kind of tree for food, you are to consider the fruit forbidden.(d) It will be forbidden to you for three years; it is not to be eaten.

23 "When you have entered the land and planted all sorts of trees for food, regard its fruit as uncircumcised for the first three years for you. It is not to be eaten.

23 ‘When you enter the land and plant all kinds of trees for food, then you shall consider their fruit (b)forbidden. For three years the fruit shall be forbidden to you; it shall not be eaten.

24 But in the fourth year all the fruit thereof shall be holy to praise the LORD withal.

24 But in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to the Lord.

24 In the fourth year all its fruit must be consecrated as a praise offering(AH) to the Lord.

24 During the fourth year, all its fruit is to be offered as a holy token of praise to the LORD.

24 In the fourth year all the fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to the Lord.

25 And in the fifth year shall ye eat of the fruit thereof, that it may yield unto you the increase thereof: I am the LORD your God.

25 In the fifth year you are to eat of its fruit, that its yield may increase for you; I am the Lord your God.

25 But in the fifth year you may eat its fruit. In this way its yield will increase for you;(AI) I am Yahweh your God.

25 But on the fifth year, you may eat its fruits to increase its produce for you."

25 In the fifth year you may eat the fruit [of the trees], this is so that their yield may increase for you; I am the Lord your God.

Blood, Hair, And Body

26 Ye shall not eat any thing with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times.

26 ‘You shall not eat anything (Z)with the blood, nor practice (AA)divination or soothsaying.

26 “You are not to eat anything with blood in it.(e)(AJ) You are not to practice divination(AK) or sorcery.(AL)

26 "You are not to eat anything containing blood, engage in occult practices, or practice fortune telling.

26 ‘You shall not eat anything with the blood, nor practice divination [using omens or witchcraft] or soothsaying.

27 Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.

27 (AB)You shall not round off the side-growth of your heads nor harm the edges of your beard.

27 You are not to cut off the hair at the sides of your head or mar the edge of your beard.(AM)

27 "You are not to cut your hair in ritualistic patterns on your head or deface the edges of your beard.

27 You shall not trim and round off the side-growth of [the hair on] your heads, nor mar the edges of your beard.

28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

28 You shall not make any cuts in your (f)body for the (g)dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the Lord.

28 You are not to make gashes on your bodies for the dead(AN) or put tattoo marks on yourselves; I am Yahweh.

28 "You are not to make incisions in your flesh on account of the dead nor submit to cuts or tattoos. I am the LORD.

28 You shall not make any cuts on your body [in mourning] for the dead, nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves; I am the Lord.

29 Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.

29 (AC)Do not (h)profane your daughter by making her a harlot, so that the land will not fall to harlotry and the land become full of lewdness.

29 “Do not debase(f)(AO) your daughter by making her a prostitute,(AP) or the land will be prostituted and filled with depravity.

29 "You are not to defile your daughter by engaging her in prostitution so the land won't become filled with wickedness.

29 ‘Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, so that the land will not fall to prostitution and become full of wickedness.

Purity, Honor, Respect, And Honesty

30 Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.

30 You shall (AD)keep My sabbaths and (AE)revere My sanctuary; I am the Lord.

30 You must keep My Sabbaths and revere My sanctuary;(AQ) I am Yahweh.

30 "Observe my Sabbath and stand in awe of my sanctuary. I am the LORD.

30 You shall keep My Sabbaths and revere My sanctuary. I am the Lord.

31 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.

31 ‘Do not turn to (i)(AF)mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.

31 “Do not turn to mediums(g)(AR) or consult spiritists,(h)(AS) or you will be defiled by them; I am Yahweh your God.

31 "You are to consult neither mediums nor familiar spirits. You are never to seek them you'll just be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.

31 ‘Do not turn to mediums [who pretend to consult the dead] or to spiritists [who have spirits of divination]; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.

32 Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.

32 (AG)You shall rise up before the grayheaded and honor the (j)aged, and you shall revere your God; I am the Lord.

32 “You are to rise in the presence of the elderly and honor the old.(AT) Fear your God; I am Yahweh.

32 "Rise in the presence of the aged and honor the elderly face-to-face. "Fear your God. I am the LORD.

32 ‘You shall rise before the gray-headed and honor the aged, and you shall fear your God [with profound reverence]; I am the Lord.

33 And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him.

33 (AH)When a stranger resides with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong.

33 “When a foreigner lives with you in your land, you must not oppress(AU) him.

33 "If a resident alien lives with you in your land, you are not to mistreat him.

33 ‘When a stranger resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress or mistreat him.

34 But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

34 The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as the native among you, and (AI)you shall love him as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.

34 You must regard the foreigner who lives with you as the native-born among you. You are to love him as yourself,(AV) for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt;(AW) I am Yahweh your God.

34 You are to treat the resident alien the same way you treat the native born among you love him like yourself, since you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

34 But the stranger who resides with you shall be to you like someone native-born among you; and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.

35 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure.

35 (AJ)You shall do no wrong in judgment, in measurement of weight, or capacity.

35 “You must not be unfair(AX) in measurements of length, weight, or volume.

35 "You are not to act unjustly in deciding a case or when measuring weight and quantity.

35 ‘You shall do no wrong in judgment, in measurement of weight or quantity.

36 Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.

36 You shall have (AK)just balances, just weights, a just (k)ephah, and a just (l)hin; I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt.

36 You are to have honest balances,(AY) honest weights, an honest dry measure,(i) and an honest liquid measure;(j)(AZ) I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

36 You are to maintain just balances and reliable standards for weights, dry volumes, and liquid volumes. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

36 You shall have just and accurate balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just (c)hin. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

37 Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am the LORD.

37 You shall thus observe all My statutes and all My ordinances and do them; I am the Lord.’”

37 You must keep all My statutes and all My ordinances and do them; I am Yahweh.”

37 Observe all my statutes and all my ordinances in order to practice them. I am the LORD."

37 You shall observe and keep all My statutes and all My ordinances and do them. I am the Lord.’”
