1 The LORD spoke to Moses,

1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

1 The Lord spoke to Moses:

1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

2 "Tell the Israelis that they are to bring to you pure oil made from beaten olives in order to keep the lamp burning continuously.

3 Outside the Canopy of the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting, Aaron is to arrange it continually in the LORD's presence from evening until morning as an eternal ordinance throughout your generations.

3 Outside the veil of testimony in the tent of meeting, Aaron shall keep it in order from evening to morning before the Lord continually; it shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations.

3 Without the vail of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the LORD continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations.

3 Aaron is to tend it continually from evening until morning before the Lord outside the veil(B) of the testimony(C) in the tent of meeting. This is a permanent statute throughout your generations.

3 Outside the veil of the Testimony [between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place] in the Tent of Meeting, Aaron shall always keep the lamps (a)burning before the Lord from evening until morning; it shall be a permanent statute throughout your generations.

4 He is to arrange the lamps so that they burn continuously on a ceremonially pure lamp stand in the LORD's presence.

4 He shall keep the lamps in order on the (B)pure gold lampstand before the Lord continually.

4 He shall order the lamps upon the pure candlestick before the LORD continually.

4 He must continually tend the lamps on the pure gold lampstand in the Lord’s presence.(D)

4 He shall keep the lamps burning on the pure gold lampstand before the Lord continually.(A)

Bread For The Tabernacle

5 Take fine flour and bake twelve cakes using two tenths of a measure for each cake.

5 (C)Then you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes with it; two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each cake.

5 And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake.

5 “Take fine flour and bake it into 12 loaves;(E) each loaf is to be made with four quarts.(a)

5 “Then you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes (bread of the Presence, showbread) with it; two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each cake (loaf).

6 Arrange them in two rows six in each row on a ceremonially pure table in the LORD's presence.

6 You shall set them in two rows, six to a row, on the (D)pure gold table before the Lord.

6 And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before the LORD.

6 Arrange them in two rows, six to a row, on the pure gold table(F) before the Lord.

6 You shall set the bread of the Presence (showbread) in two rows, six in a row, on the pure gold table before the Lord.

7 Put pure frankincense on each row for a memorial offering. It will serve as an offering made by fire to the LORD.

7 You shall put pure frankincense on each row that it may be (E)a memorial portion for the bread, even an offering by fire to the Lord.

7 And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

7 Place pure frankincense(G) near each row, so that it may serve as a memorial portion(H) for the bread and a fire offering(I) to the Lord.

7 You shall put pure frankincense [in two censers, one] beside each row, so that it may be with the bread as a memorial portion, an offering by fire to the Lord.

8 They are to be arranged every Sabbath day in the LORD's presence as a gift from the Israelis an eternal covenant.

8 (F)Every sabbath day he shall set it in order before the Lord (G)continually; it is an everlasting covenant (c)for the sons of Israel.

8 Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.

8 The bread is to be set out before the Lord every Sabbath day as a perpetual covenant(J) obligation on the part of the Israelites.

8 Every Sabbath day Aaron shall arrange the showbread before the Lord continually; it is an everlasting covenant for the Israelites.

9 This gift will belong to Aaron and his sons, and they are to eat it in a sacred place, because it's the most holy thing for him of all the offerings made by fire to the LORD. This is to be an eternal ordinance."

9 (H)It shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place; for it is most holy to him from the Lord’s offerings by fire, his portion forever.”

9 And it shall be Aaron's and his sons'; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy unto him of the offerings of the LORD made by fire by a perpetual statute.

9 It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in a holy place, for it is the holiest portion for him from the fire offerings to the Lord; this is a permanent rule.”

9 The bread of the Presence shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a sacred place, for it is for Aaron a most holy portion of the offerings by fire to the Lord, his portion forever.”

Punishment For Blasphemy

10 Now a son of an Israeli woman and an Egyptian man went out among the Israelis. The Israeli woman's son got into a fight with an Israeli man in the camp.

10 Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the sons of Israel; and the Israelite woman’s son and a man of Israel struggled with each other in the camp.

10 And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp;

10 Now the son of an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father was(b) among the Israelites. A fight broke out in the camp between the Israelite woman’s son and an Israelite man.

10 Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the Israelites, and he and a man of Israel quarreled and struggled with each other in the camp.

11 Then the Israeli woman's son blasphemed the Name and cursed, so they brought him to Moses. His mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, from the tribe of Dan.

11 The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the (I)Name and cursed. So they brought him to Moses. (Now his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.)

11 And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the LORD, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:)

11 Her son cursed and blasphemed the Name,(K) and they brought him to Moses. (His mother’s name was Shelomith, a daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan.(L))

11 The Israelite woman’s son blasphemed the Name [of the Lord] and cursed. So they brought him to Moses. (Now his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.)

An Example Of Just And Fair Punishment

12 They placed him in custody until a decision would be made to them according to the word of the LORD.

12 They put him in (d)custody (e)so that (J)the command of the Lord might be made clear to them.

12 And they put him in ward, that the mind of the LORD might be shewed them.

12 They put him in custody(M) until the Lord’s decision(N) could be made clear to them.

12 They put him in custody until the will and command of the Lord might be made clear to them.

13 Then the LORD spoke to Moses,

13 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

13 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

13 Then the Lord spoke to Moses:

13 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

14 "Take the one who cursed outside the camp. Everyone who heard him is to lay their hands on his head. Then the entire congregation is to stone him to death.

14 “Bring the one who has cursed outside the camp, and let all who heard him (K)lay their hands on his head; then (L)let all the congregation stone him.

14 Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him.

14 “Bring the one who has cursed to the outside of the camp and have all who heard him lay their hands on his head; then have the whole community stone him.(O)

14 “Bring the one who has cursed [the Lord] outside the camp, and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head [as witnesses to his guilt]; then let all the congregation stone him.

15 Moreover, tell the Israelis that anyone who curses his God will bear the consequences of his own sin,

15 You shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘(M)If anyone curses his God, then he will bear his sin.

15 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin.

15 And tell the Israelites: If anyone curses his God, he will bear the consequences of his sin.

15 You shall speak to the Israelites, saying, ‘Whoever curses his God will bear his sin [through his own death].

16 because the one who blasphemes the name of the LORD is certainly to be put to death. The entire congregation is to stone him to death. As it is for the resident alien, so it is to be with the native born: when he blasphemes the Name, he is to be put to death.

16 Moreover, the one who (N)blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him. The alien as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.

16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.

16 Whoever blasphemes the name of Yahweh is to be put to death;(P) the whole community must stone him. If he blasphemes the Name, he is to be put to death, whether the foreign resident or the native.

16 Further, the one who blasphemes the name of the Lord shall most certainly be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him. The stranger as well as the native-born shall be put to death when he blasphemes the Name [of the Lord].

An Eye For An Eye

17 "If a man beats a human being to death, he is certainly to be executed,

17 (O)If a man (f)takes the life of any human being, he shall surely be put to death.

17 And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death.

17 “If a man kills anyone, he must be put to death.(Q)

17 ‘If a man takes the life of any human being [unlawfully], he shall most certainly be put to death.

18 but whoever beats an animal to death is to replace it life for life.

18 (P)The one who (g)takes the life of an animal shall make it good, life for life.

18 And he that killeth a beast shall make it good; beast for beast.

18 Whoever kills an animal is to make restitution for it, life for life.

18 The one who kills an animal shall replace it, animal for animal.

19 If a man disfigures his fellow, whatever he did is to be done to him also.

19 If a man (h)injures his neighbor, just as he has done, so it shall be done to him:

19 And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him;

19 If any man inflicts a permanent injury on his neighbor, whatever he has done is to be done to him:

19 If a man injures his neighbor (fellow citizen), whatever he has done shall be done to him:

20 Fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth just as he had caused a disfigurement against another man, so it is to be done against him.

20 (Q)fracture for fracture, (R)eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has (i)injured a man, so it shall be (j)inflicted on him.

20 Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again.

20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. Whatever injury he inflicted on the person, the same is to be inflicted on him.(R)

20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has injured a man, so shall the same be done to him.(B)

21 Whoever beats an animal to death is to replace it, but whoever beats a human being to death is to be put to death.

21 Thus the one who (k)kills an animal shall make it good, but (S)the one who (l)kills a man shall be put to death.

21 And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death.

21 Whoever kills an animal is to make restitution for it, but whoever kills a person is to be put to death.(S)

21 The one who kills an animal shall replace it; but he who kills a human being [unlawfully] shall be put to death.

22 You are to have for yourselves consistent procedures in deciding a case. As it is for the resident alien, so it is for the native born. I am the LORD your God."

22 There shall be (T)one (m)standard for you; it shall be for the stranger as well as the native, for I am the Lord your God.’”

22 Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.

22 You are to have the same law for the foreign resident and the native, because I am Yahweh your God.”

22 You shall have one standard of law for the stranger among you as well as for the native, for I am the Lord your God.’”

23 So Moses spoke to the Israelis and they brought the one who cursed outside the camp and stoned him to death with boulders. The Israelis did just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

23 Then Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, and they brought the one who had cursed outside the camp and stoned him with stones. Thus the sons of Israel did, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

23 And Moses spake to the children of Israel, that they should bring forth him that had cursed out of the camp, and stone him with stones. And the children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses.

23 After Moses spoke to the Israelites, they brought the one who had cursed to the outside of the camp and stoned him. So the Israelites did as the Lord had commanded Moses.

23 Then Moses spoke to the Israelites, and they brought the one who had cursed [the Lord] outside the camp and stoned him with stones. Thus the Israelites did just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
