The Parable Of The Unjust Judge
1 Then he told them a parable, to show that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.
1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
1 Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they (A)ought to pray and not to (B)lose heart,
1 Jesus told his disciples a parable about their need to pray all the time and never give up.
3 And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.'
3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
3 There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘(a)Give me legal protection from my opponent.’
3 In that city there was also a widow who kept coming to him and saying, "Grant me justice against my adversary.'
4 For a while he refused; but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God nor regard man,
4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
4 For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor (D)respect man,
4 “For a while he was unwilling, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or respect man,
4 For a while the judge refused. But later, he told himself, "I don't fear God or respect people,
5 yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her justice, or she will wear me out by her continual coming.'"
5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
5 yet (E)because this widow bothers me, I will (b)give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will (c)(F)wear me out.’”
5 yet because this widow keeps(E) pestering me,(a) I will give her justice, so she doesn’t wear me out(b) by her persistent coming.’”
5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice. Otherwise, she will keep coming and wear me out.'"
7 And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?
7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
7 now, will not God (H)bring about justice for His (I)elect who cry to Him day and night, (d)and will He (J)delay long over them?
7 Will not God grant justice(F) to His elect(G) who cry out to Him day and night?(H) Will He delay(I) to help them?(c)
7 Won't God grant his chosen people justice when they cry out to him day and night? Is he slow to help them?
8 I tell you that he will bring about justice for them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"
8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
8 I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, (K)will He find (e)faith on the earth?”
8 I tell you that He will swiftly grant them justice. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes,(J) will He find that faith(d) on earth?”
8 I tell you, he will give them justice quickly. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"
The Parable Of The Pharisee And The Tax Collector
9 Also he told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
9 And He also told this parable to some people who (L)trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and (M)viewed others with contempt:
9 He(K) also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves(L) that they were righteous(M) and looked down(N) on everyone else:
9 Jesus also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves, thinking they were righteous, but who looked down on everyone else:
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other menextortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
11 The Pharisee (O)stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
11 The Pharisee took his stand(e)(P) and was praying like this: ‘God, I thank You that I’m not like other people(f) —greedy,(Q) unrighteous,(R) adulterers,(S) or even like this tax collector.
11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed, "O God, I thank you that I'm not like other people thieves, dishonest people, adulterers, or even this tax collector.
13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!'
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
13 But the tax collector, (R)standing some distance away, (S)was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but (T)was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be (f)merciful to me, the sinner!’
13 “But the tax collector, standing far off,(V) would not even raise his eyes to heaven(W) but kept striking his chest(h)(X) and saying, ‘God, turn Your wrath from me(i)(Y)—a sinner!’(Z)
13 "But the tax collector stood at a distance and would not even look up to heaven. Instead, he continued to beat his chest and said, "O God, be merciful to me, the sinner that I am!'
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
14 I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; (U)for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
14 I tell you, this one went down to his house justified(AA) rather than the other; because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”(AB)
14 I tell you, this man, rather than the other one, went down to his home justified, because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the person who humbles himself will be exalted."
Little Children Brought To Jesus
15 Now they were also bringing infants to him that he might touch them; but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
15 (V)And they were bringing even their babies to Him so that He would touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they began rebuking them.
15 Some(AC) people were even bringing infants to Him so He might touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
15 Now some people were even bringing their infants to Jesus to have him touch them. But when the disciples saw this, they sternly told the people not to do that.
16 But Jesus called them to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
16 But Jesus called for them, saying, “Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
16 Jesus, however, invited them: “Let the little children come to Me,(AD) and don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
16 Jesus, however, called for the children and said, "Let the little children come to me, and stop keeping them away, because the kingdom of God belongs to people like these.
17 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will not enter it."
17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
17 Truly I say to you, (W)whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.”
17 I assure you:(AE) Whoever does not welcome(AF) the kingdom of God like a little child(AG) will never enter it.”
17 I tell all of you with certainty, whoever doesn't receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never get into it at all."
A Rich Young Man
19 So Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.
19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
19 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.
19 “Why do you call Me good?” Jesus asked him. “No one is good but One—God.
19 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus asked him. "Nobody is good except for one God.
20 You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.'"
20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
20 You know the commandments, ‘(Y)Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’”
20 You know the commandments:Do not commit adultery;do not murder;do not steal;do not bear false witness;honor your father and mother.”(AK)(j)
20 You know the commandments: "Never commit adultery. Never murder. Never steal. Never give false testimony. Honor your father and mother.'"
21 And he said, "All these I have kept from my youth."
21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
21 And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.”
21 “I have kept all these from my youth,” he said.
21 The official replied, "I have kept all of these since I was a young man."
22 When Jesus heard it, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."
22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
22 When Jesus heard this, He said to him, “One thing you still lack; (Z)sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have (AA)treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
22 When Jesus heard this, He told him, “You still lack one thing: Sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor,(AL) and you will have treasure in heaven.(AM) Then come, follow Me.”(AN)
22 When Jesus heard this, he told him, "You still need to do one thing. Sell everything you have and give the money to the destitute, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come back and follow me."
23 But when he heard this, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.
23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
23 But when he had heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.
23 But when the official heard this he became sad, because he was very rich.
24 Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!
24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
24 And Jesus looked at him and said, “(AB)How hard it is for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!
24 Seeing that he became sad,(k) Jesus said, “How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!
24 So when Jesus saw how sad he was, he said, "How hard it is for rich people to get into the kingdom of God!
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
25 For (AC)it is easier for a camel to (g)go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 Indeed, it's easier for a camel to squeeze through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into the kingdom of God."
Who Can Be Saved?
29 So he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,
29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,

31 Then he took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written of the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.

34 But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.

36 And hearing a multitude going by, he asked what this meant.
36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
36 Now hearing a crowd going by, he began to inquire what this was.
36 Hearing a crowd passing by, he inquired what this meant.
36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening.
39 And those who led the way rebuked him, telling him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

40 And Jesus stopped and commanded that he be brought to Him; and when he came near, He questioned him,
40 Jesus stopped and commanded that he be brought to Him. When he drew near, He asked him,
40 Then Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him,
41 "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, I want to receive my sight."
41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
41 “What do you want Me to do for you?” And he said, “Lord, I want to regain my sight!”
41 “What do you want Me to do for you?”“Lord,” he said, “I want to see!”
