And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
“Is not My word like
fire?” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer which shatters a rock?
When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching;
He came to His hometown and began teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?
they were amazed at His teaching, for His message was with authority.
for I will give you utterance and wisdom which none of your opponents will be able to resist or refute.
officers answered, “ Never has a man spoken the way this man speaks.”
But they were unable to cope with the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.
All those hearing him continued to be amazed, and were saying, “Is this not he who in Jerusalem
destroyed those who called on this name, and who had come here for the purpose of bringing them bound before the chief priests?”

but we have renounced the
things hidden because of shame, not walking in craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but by the manifestation of truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
(For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they
carefully wash their hands, thus observing the traditions of the elders;
“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘ Whoever swears by the temple, that is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple is obligated.’
