4 John was baptising in the wilderness, and preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

8 I indeed baptise you with water; but he shall baptise you with the Holy Ghost.

The Baptism Of Jesus

9 And it came to pass in those days, Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and was baptised of John in Jordan.

The Temptation Of Jesus

12 And immediately the Spirit impelled him to go into the wilderness.

Public Ministry In Galilee

14 But after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God:

15 and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God draweth nigh: repent, and believe the gospel.

15 He said, "The time is now! The kingdom of God is near! Repent, and keep believing the gospel!"

Jesus Calls His First Disciples

16 And as he walked near the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

16 (Q)As He was going along by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen.

16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

17 And Jesus said to them, Come after me, and I will appoint you to be fishers of men:

17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

Driving Out An Unclean Spirit

21 And they entered into Capernaum; and immediately on the sabbath going into the synagogue, he taught.

A Man With An Unclean Spirit Healed

22 And they were struck with astonishment at his doctrine; for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

22 (T)They were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

22 The people were utterly amazed at his teaching, because he was teaching them like one with authority, and not like their scribes.

Jesus Heals A Man With An Unclean Spirit

23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

23 Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

23 Just then a man with an unclean(BZ) spirit(CA) was in their synagogue.(CB) He cried out,(l)

23 All of a sudden, there was a man in their synagogue who had an unclean spirit! He screamed,

24 saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

24 saying, “(U)What (n)business do we have with each other, Jesus (o)of (V)Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—(W)the Holy One of God!”

24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

24 “What do You have to do with us,(m) Jesus—Nazarene?(CC) Have You come to destroy(CD) us? I know who You are—the Holy(CE) One of God!”(CF)

24 "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are the Holy One of God!"

25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent, and come out of him.

25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!”

25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.

26 And the unclean spirit threw him into convulsions, and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.

27 And they were all in astonishment, so that they questioned one another, saying, What is this? what is this new doctrine? that with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him?

27 They were all (X)amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.

27 Then they were all amazed,(CJ) so they began to argue(CK) with one another, saying, “What is this? A new teaching(CL) with authority!(o)(CM) He commands even the unclean(CN) spirits,(CO) and they obey Him.”

27 All the people were so stunned that they kept saying to each other, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He tells even the unclean spirits what to do, and they obey him!"

28 And there went out a report of him immediately into all the region of Galilee round about.

28 Immediately the news about Him spread everywhere into all the surrounding district of Galilee.

28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.

28 News about Him then spread throughout the entire vicinity of Galilee.(CP)

28 At once his fame began to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee.

Many At Capernaum Are Healed

29 Then straitway going out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

29 (Y)And immediately after they came (Z)out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with (p)James and John.

29 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

29 As(CQ) soon as they left the synagogue,(CR) they went into Simon(CS) and Andrew’s(CT) house(CU) with James(CV) and John.(CW)

29 After they left the synagogue, they went directly to the house of Simon and Andrew, along with James and John.

30 But Simon's wife's mother lay in a fever, and immediately they informed him of her.

30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and immediately they *spoke to (q)Jesus about her.

31 And he came and raised her up, and the fever left her immediately, and she waited upon them.

Preaching Throughout Galilee

35 And very early (the night being far advanced towards morning) rising up, he went forth, and retired into a desert place, and there prayed.

38 And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.

38 And He said to them, “Let’s go on to the neighboring villages so that I may preach(DN) there too. This is why I have come.”

38 "Let's go to the neighboring town," he replied, "so I can preach there, too, because that's why I came."

39 And he was preaching in their synagogues, through all Galilee, and casting out devils.

A Leper Cleansed

40 And there came to him a leper, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

40 Then a leper came to Jesus and began pleading with him. He fell on his knees and told him, "If you want to, you can make me clean."

41 Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretching out his hand, touched him, and said to him, I will; be thou cleansed.

41 Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and *said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”

41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.

42 And as he spake, the leprosy instantly departed from him, and he was cleansed.

43 And giving him a strict charge, he immediately sent him away;

44 and said to him, Take care, that thou speak not a word to any man: but go, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy purification, what Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

44 and He *said to him, (AK)See that you say nothing to anyone; but (AL)go, show yourself to the priest and (AM)offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

44 And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

44 telling him, “See that you say nothing to anyone;(DZ) but go and show(EA) yourself to the priest,(EB) and offer(EC) what Moses prescribed for your cleansing,(ED) as a testimony(EE) to them.”

44 He told the man, "Be sure that you don't tell anyone. Instead, go and show yourself to the priest, and then offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded as proof to the authorities."

45 But he going out, began to proclaim it much, and to publish abroad an account of it, so that he could no more openly come into the city; but was without in desert places; and they came to him from all parts of the country.

45 But he went out and began to (AN)proclaim it freely and to (AO)spread the news around, to such an extent that (u)Jesus could no longer publicly enter a city, but (v)stayed out in unpopulated areas; and (AP)they were coming to Him from everywhere.

45 But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
