And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
After He called the crowd to Him again, He began saying to them,
“Listen to Me, all of you, and understand:
And He was saying to them all,
“ If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
And while all the people were listening, He said to the disciples,
If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire,
If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
“ Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.
Then Jesus said to His disciples,
“If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.
“ Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.
Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of
those without strength and not just please ourselves.
1 Corinthians 8:13
if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.

For though I am
free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I may win more.
whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ.
instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,
Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him,
“One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
As they were coming out, they found a man of Cyrene named Simon, whom they pressed into service to bear His cross.
They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.
strengthening the souls of
the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying, “ Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.”
knowing this, that our
old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
and if children,
heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
1 Corinthians 4:9
For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men
condemned to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.
1 Corinthians 15:31
I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord,

I have been

belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
that I may
know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;
Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I do my share on behalf of His body, which is the church, in filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions.
Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
2 Thessalonians 3:11
For we hear that some among you are
leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies.
1 Peter 4:1
Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

But My servant Caleb,
because he has had a different spirit and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land which he entered, and his descendants shall take possession of it.
1 Kings 14:8
tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you— yet you have not been like My servant David, who kept My commandments and who followed Me with all his heart, to do only that which was right in My sight;
“ If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.
When Jesus heard this, He said to him,
“One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;
Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered,
“ Where I go, you cannot follow Me now; but you will follow later.”
Now this He said,
signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He *said to him, “ Follow Me!”
So, let us go out to Him outside the camp,
bearing His reproach.
