The Signs Of The Times

1 And, the Pharisees and Sadducees coming near, putting him to the test, requested him, a sign out of the heaven, to shew unto them.

1 (A)The (B)Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and testing Jesus, they (C)asked Him to show them a (a)sign from heaven.

1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.

1 The Pharisees and Sadducees approached,(A) and as a test, asked Him to show them a sign from heaven.(B)

1 When the Pharisees and Sadducees arrived, in order to test Jesus they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

2 But, he, answering said unto them -

2 But He replied to them, (b)(D)When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’

2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.

2 He answered them: “When evening comes you say, ‘It will be good weather because the sky is red.’

2 He replied to them, "You say, "Red sky at night, what a delight!

3 A wicked and adulterous generation, a sign, doth seek after, and, a sign, will not be given it, - save the sign of Jonah. And, leaving them behind, he departed.

3 And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ (E)Do you know how to discern the (c)appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?

3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

3 And in the morning, ‘Today will be stormy because the sky is red and threatening.’ You(a) know how to read the appearance of the sky, but you can’t read the signs of the times.(b)

3 Red sky in the morning, cloudy and storming.'

Beware The Leaven Of The Pharisees And Sadducees

4 And the disciples coming, to the other side, had forgotten to take loaves.

4 (F)An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a (d)sign; and a (e)sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah.” And He left them and went away.

4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

4 An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of(c) Jonah.”(C) Then He left them and went away.

4 You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, yet you can't interpret the signs of the times? An evil and adulterous generation craves a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah." Then he left them and went away.

5 And, Jesus, said unto them - Mind! and beware, of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

5 And the disciples came to the other side of the sea, but they had forgotten to bring any bread.

5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.

5 The disciples reached the other shore,(d) and they had forgotten to take bread.

5 When his disciples reached the other side, they had forgotten to take any bread along.

6 And, they, began to deliberate among themselves, saying - Because, loaves, we took not.

6 And Jesus said to them, “Watch out and (G)beware of the (f)leaven of the (H)Pharisees and Sadducees.”

6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

6 Then Jesus told them, “Watch out and beware of the yeast(e) of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”(D)

6 Jesus told them, "Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!"

7 And, observing it, Jesus said - Why are ye deliberating among yourselves, ye little-of-faith! because, loaves, ye have not?

7 They began to discuss this among themselves, saying, “He said that because we did not bring any bread.”

7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.

7 And they discussed among themselves, “We didn’t bring any bread.”

7 As they began to discuss this among themselves, they kept saying, "We didn't bring along any bread."

8 Not yet, perceive ye, neither remember, - The five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye received?

8 But Jesus, aware of this, said, (I)You men of little faith, why do you discuss among yourselves that you have no bread?

8 Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?

8 Aware of this, Jesus said, “You of little faith!(E) Why are you discussing among yourselves that you do not have bread?

8 Knowing this, Jesus asked them, "You who have little faith, why are you discussing among yourselves the fact that you don't have any bread?

9 Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many hampers ye received?

9 Do you not yet understand or remember (J)the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets full you picked up?

9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

9 Don’t you understand yet? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the 5,000 and how many baskets you collected?

9 Don't you understand yet? Don't you remember the five loaves for the 5,000 and how many baskets you collected,

10 How is it ye perceive not, that, not concerning loaves, spake I unto you, - but beware of the leaven, of the Pharisees and Sadducees?

10 Or (K)the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many large baskets full you picked up?

10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

10 Or the seven loaves for the 4,000 and how many large baskets you collected?(F)

10 or the seven loaves for the 4,000 and how many baskets you collected?

11 Then, understood they that he did not bid them beware of theleaven of loavesbut of, the teaching, of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

11 How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? But (L)beware of the (g)leaven of the (M)Pharisees and Sadducees.”

11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?

11 Why is it you don’t understand that when I told you, ‘Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees,’ it wasn’t about bread?”(G)

11 How can you fail to understand that I wasn't talking to you about bread? Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!"

Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi

12 And, Jesus coming into the parts of Caesarea of Philip, began questioning his disciples, saying - Who are men saying that, the Son of Man, is?

12 Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the (N)Pharisees and Sadducees.

12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the yeast in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.(H)

12 Then they understood that he did not say to beware of the yeast used in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

13 And, they, said - Some, indeed, John the Immerser, and, others, Elijah, - but, others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

13 (O)Now when Jesus came into the district of (P)Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that (Q)the Son of Man is?”

13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi,(f)(I) He asked His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”(g)

13 When Jesus had come to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"

14 He saith unto them - But who say, ye, that I am?

14 And they said, “Some say (R)John the Baptist; and others, (h)(S)Elijah; but still others, (i)Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”

14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”(J)

14 They said, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."

15 And, Simon Peter, answering, said - Thou, art the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

15 He *said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

15 “But you,” He asked them, “who do you say that I am?”

15 He asked them, "But who do you say I am?"

16 And Jesus, answering, said to him - Happy, art thou, Simon Bar-yona, - because, flesh and blood, revealed it not unto thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are (j)(T)the Christ, (U)the Son of (V)the living God.”

16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!”(K)

16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!"

17 And, I also, unto thee, say - Thou, art Peter, - and, upon this rock, will I build my assembly, and, the gates of hades, shall not prevail against it.

17 And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, (W)Simon (k)Barjona, because (X)flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

17 And Jesus responded, “Simon son of Jonah,(h)(L) you are blessed because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father in heaven.(M)

17 Then Jesus told him, "How blessed you are, Simon son of Jonah, since flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, though my Father in heaven has.

18 I will give thee, the keys of the kingdom of the heavens, - and, whatsoever thou shalt bind upon the earth, shall be bound in the heavens, and, whatsoever thou shalt loose upon the earth, shall be loosed in the heavens.

18 I also say to you that you are (l)(Y)Peter, and upon this (m)rock I will build My church; and the gates of (Z)Hades will not overpower it.

18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

18 And I also say to you that you are Peter,(i) and on this rock(j) I will build My church,(N) and the forces(k) of Hades will not overpower it.

18 I tell you that you are Peter, and it is on this rock that I will build my congregation, and the powers of hell will not conquer it.

19 Then, straitly charged he the disciples, lest, to any man, they should say - He, is, the Christ.

19 I will give you (AA)the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and (AB)whatever you bind on earth (n)shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth (o)shall have been loosed in heaven.”

19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven,(O) and whatever you bind on earth is already bound(l) in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth is already loosed(m) in heaven.”

19 I will give you the keys to the kingdom from heaven. Whatever you prohibit on earth will have been prohibited in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will have been permitted in heaven."

Jesus Predicts His Death And Resurrection

20 From that time, began Jesus Christ to be pointing out to his disciples that he must needs, into Jerusalem, go away, and, many things, suffer, from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, - and on, the third day, arise.

20 (AC)Then He (p)warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was (q)(AD)the Christ.

20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

20 And He gave the disciples orders to tell no one that He was(n) the Messiah.(P)

20 Then he strictly ordered the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

21 And, taking him aside, Peter began to rebuke him, saying - Mercy on thee Lord! In nowise, shall, this, befall thee.

21 (AE)From that time (r)Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and (AF)suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day.

21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

21 From(Q) then on Jesus began to point out to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day.(R)

21 From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he would have to go to Jerusalem and suffer a great deal because of the elders, the high priests, and the scribes. Then he would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised.

22 But, he, turning, said to Peter - Withdraw behind me, Satan! A snare, art thou of mine, because thou art not regarding the things of God, but the things of men.

22 Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “(s)God forbid it, Lord! This shall never (t)happen to You.”

22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.

22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, “Oh no,(o) Lord! This will never happen to You!”

22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, "God be merciful to you, Lord! This must never happen to you!"

Taking Up One's Cross To Follow Jesus

23 Then, Jesus said unto his disciples - If any one intendeth, after me, to come, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and be following me;

23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, (AG)Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on (u)God’s interests, but man’s.”

23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

23 But He turned and told Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me because you’re not thinking about God’s concerns,(p) but man’s.”(S)

23 But Jesus turned and told Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are an offense to me, because you are not thinking God's thoughts but human thoughts!"

24 For, whosoever intendeth, his life, to save, shall lose it, - but, whosoever shall lose his life, for my sake, shall find it.

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and (AH)take up his cross and follow Me.

24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.(T)

24 Then Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone wants to follow me, he must deny himself, pick up his cross, and follow me continuously.

25 For what shall a man be profited, though, the whole world, he gain, and, his life, he forfeit? Or what shall a man give, in exchange for his life?

25 For (AI)whoever wishes to save his (v)life will lose it; but whoever loses his (w)life for My sake will find it.

25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will find it.(U)

25 Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it,

26 For the Son of Man is destined to be coming, in the glory of his Father, with his messengers, - and, then, will he give back unto each one, according to his practice.

26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

26 What will it benefit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?(V)

26 because what profit will a person have if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what can a person give in exchange for his life?

27 Verily, I say unto you - There are some of those, here standing, who, indeed, shall in nowise taste of death, until they see the Son of Man, coming in his kingdom.

27 For the (AJ)Son of Man (AK)is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and (AL)will then (x)repay every man according to his (y)deeds.

27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

27 For the Son of Man is going to come with His angels in the glory of His Father,(W) and then He will reward each according to what he has done.

27 The Son of Man is going to come with his angels in his Father's glory, and then he will repay everyone according to what he has done.
