Jesus Calls His First Disciples

²¹ Going on from there he saw two other brothers James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee repairing their nets. When he called them, ²² they immediately left the boat and their father and followed him. ²³ Then he went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every illness among the people.

Deuteronomy 33:9-10

the one who told his mother and father, "I don't know them,' and who would neither acknowledge his brothers nor know his own children. For they kept your word and guarded your covenant.

Matthew 10:37

"The one who loves his father or mother more than me isn't worthy of me, and the one who loves a son or daughter more than me isn't worthy of me.

Mark 1:20

He immediately called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

Luke 9:59-60

He told another man, "Follow me." But he said, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."

Luke 14:26

"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, as well as his own life, he can't be my disciple.

Luke 14:33

In the same way, none of you can be my disciple unless he gives up all his possessions."

2 Corinthians 5:16

So then, from now on we do not think of anyone from a human point of view. Even if we did think of the Messiah from a human point of view, we don't think of him that way anymore.
