"Follow me," he told them, "and I will make you fishers of people!"

Jesus told them, "Follow me, and I'll make you fishers of people!"

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's desk and told him, "Follow me." So he got up and followed him.

This is what I mean: Each of you is saying, "I belong to Paul," or "I belong to Apollos," or "I belong to Cephas," or "I belong to the Messiah."

"The one who loves his father or mother more than me isn't worthy of me, and the one who loves a son or daughter more than me isn't worthy of me. The one who doesn't take up his cross and follow me isn't worthy of me.

And so, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only when I was with you but even more now that I am absent, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

So Jesus told those Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are really my disciples.

"If you love me, keep my commandments.

Imitate me, as I do the Messiah.

If anyone doesn't love the Lord, let him be !

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear, trembling, and sincerity, as when you obey the Messiah. Do not do this only while you're being watched in order to please them, but be like slaves of the Messiah, who are determined to obey God's will.

This is how we can be sure that we have come to know him: if we continually keep his commandments.

Whatever we request we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. And this is his commandment: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus the Messiah, and to love one another as he commanded us. The person who keeps his commandments abides in God, and God abides in him. This is how we can be sure that he remains in us: he has given us his Spirit.

They have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins, and they follow the lamb wherever he goes. They have been redeemed from among humanity as the first fruits for God and the lamb.
