Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
And Jesus said to them,
“Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
And He was giving orders to them, saying,
“ Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”
Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness.
Under these circumstances, after
so many thousands of people had gathered together that they were stepping on one another, He began saying to His disciples first of all, “ Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
For this reason we must pay much closer attention to
what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it.
When the sun goes down you shall surely return the pledge to him, that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you; and it will be righteousness for you before the Lord your God.
He has given freely to the poor,
His righteousness endures forever;
horn will be exalted in honor.
His righteousness endures forever;
Therefore, O king, may my
advice be pleasing to you: break away now from your sins by doing righteousness and from your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor, in case there may be a prolonging of your prosperity.’
2 Corinthians 9:9
as it is written,
He scattered abroad, he gave to the poor,
“When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments.
2 Kings 10:16
He said, “Come with me and
see my zeal for the Lord.” So he made him ride in his chariot.
They come to you as people come, and sit before you as My people and hear your words, but they do not do them, for they do the lustful desires expressed by their
mouth, and their heart goes after their gain.
“Say to all the people of the land and to the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months
these seventy years, was it actually for Me that you fasted?
Also it will come about in that day that the prophets will each be
ashamed of his vision when he prophesies, and they will not put on a hairy robe in order to deceive;
And He said to them,
“You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God.
How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?
for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God.
Those who desire
to make a good showing in the flesh try to compel you to be circumcised, simply so that they will not be persecuted for the cross of Christ.
so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds.
The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’
1 Corinthians 9:17
For if I do this voluntarily, I have a
reward; but if against my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.
God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints.
considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward.
2 John 1:8
Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward.
