The Sermon On The Mount: On Judging Others

1 'Judge not, that ye may not be judged,

1 (A)Do not judge so that you will not be judged.

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

1 “Do not judge, so that you won’t be judged.(A)

1 "Stop judging, so that you won't be judged,

2 for in what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged, and in what measure ye measure, it shall be measured to you.

2 For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and (a)(B)by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

2 For with the judgment you use,(a) you will be judged, and with the measure you use,(b) it will be measured to you.(B)

2 because the way that you judge others will be the way that you will be judged, and you will be evaluated by the standard with which you evaluate others.

3 And why dost thou behold the mote that is in thy brother's eye, and the beam that is in thine own eye dost not consider?

3 Why do you (C)look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

3 Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye but don’t notice the log in your own eye?(C)

3 "Why do you see the speck in your brother's eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?

4 or, how wilt thou say to thy brother, Suffer I may cast out the mote from thine eye, and lo, the beam is in thine own eye?

4 (D)Or how (b)can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye?

4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and look, there’s a log in your eye?

4 Or how can you say to your brother, "Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when the beam is in your own eye?

5 Hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then thou shalt see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

5 Hypocrite! First take the log out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

5 You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

Don'T Throw Pearls To Pigs

6 Ye may not give that which is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before the swine, that they may not trample them among their feet, and having turned -- may rend you.

6 (E)Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

6 Don’t give what is holy to dogs or toss your pearls before pigs,(D) or they will trample them with their feet, turn, and tear you to pieces.

6 "Never give what is holy to dogs or throw your pearls before pigs. Otherwise, they will trample them with their feet and then turn around and attack you."

The Sermon On The Mount: Ask, Seek, Knock

7 'Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you;

7 (c)(F)Ask, and (G)it will be given to you; (d)seek, and you will find; (e)knock, and it will be opened to you.

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

7 “Keep asking,(c)(E) and it will be given to you.(F) Keep searching,(d) and you will find. Keep knocking,(e) and the door(f) will be opened to you.

7 "Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened for you.

8 for every one who is asking doth receive, and he who is seeking doth find, and to him who is knocking it shall be opened.

8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds,(G) and to the one who knocks, the door(g) will be opened.

8 Because everyone who keeps asking will receive, and the person who keeps searching will find, and the person who keeps knocking will have the door opened.

9 Or what man is of you, of whom, if his son may ask a loaf -- a stone will he present to him?

9 Or what man is there among you (f)who, when his son asks for a loaf, (g)will give him a stone?

9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

9 What man among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

9 "There isn't a person among you who would give his son a stone if he asked for bread, is there?

10 and if a fish he may ask -- a serpent will he present to him?

10 Or (h)if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he?

10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?

10 Or if he asks for a fish, he wouldn't give him a snake, would he?

11 if, therefore, ye being evil, have known good gifts to give to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in the heavens give good things to those asking him?

11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, (H)how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

11 If you then, who are evil,(H) know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

11 So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who keep on asking him!

The Golden Rule

12 'All things, therefore, whatever ye may will that men may be doing to you, so also do to them, for this is the law and the prophets.

12 “In everything, (I)therefore, (i)treat people the same way you want (j)them to treat you, for (J)this is the Law and the Prophets.

12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

12 Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them—this is the Law and the Prophets.(h)(I)

12 Therefore, whatever you want people to do for you, do the same for them, because this summarizes the Law and the Prophets."

The Sermon On The Mount: The Narrow Gate

13 Go ye in through the strait gate, because wide is the gate, and broad the way that is leading to the destruction, and many are those going in through it;

13 (K)Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

13 “Enter through the narrow gate.(J) For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction,(K) and there are many who go through it.

13 "Go in through the narrow gate, because the gate is wide and the road is spacious that leads to destruction, and many people are entering by it.

14 how strait is the gate, and compressed the way that is leading to the life, and few are those finding it!

14 For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

14 How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.

14 How narrow is the gate and how constricted is the road that leads to life, and there aren't many people who find it!"

The Sermon On The Mount: Recognizing False Prophets

15 'But, take heed of the false prophets, who come unto you in sheep's clothing, and inwardly are ravening wolves.

15 “Beware of the (L)false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are (M)ravenous wolves.

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

15 “Beware of false prophets(L) who come to you in sheep’s(M) clothing(N) but inwardly are ravaging wolves.(O)

15 "Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are savage wolves.

16 From their fruits ye shall know them; do men gather from thorns grapes? or from thistles figs?

16 You will (k)(N)know them by their fruits. (l)Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

16 You’ll recognize them by their fruit.(P) Are grapes gathered from thornbushes or figs from thistles?(Q)

16 You will know them by their fruit. Grapes aren't gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles, are they?

17 so every good tree doth yield good fruits, but the bad tree doth yield evil fruits.

17 So (O)every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

17 In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit.

17 In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a rotten tree produces bad fruit.

18 A good tree is not able to yield evil fruits, nor a bad tree to yield good fruits.

18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit; neither can a bad tree produce good fruit.

18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and a rotten tree cannot produce good fruit.

19 Every tree not yielding good fruit is cut down and is cast to fire:

19 (P)Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

19 Every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.(R)

19 Every tree that doesn't produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into a fire.

20 therefore from their fruits ye shall know them.

20 So then, you will (m)know them (Q)by their fruits.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

20 So you’ll recognize them by their fruit.(S)

20 So by their fruit you will know them."

The Sermon On The Mount: False Followers

21 'Not every one who is saying to me Lord, lord, shall come into the reign of the heavens; but he who is doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens.

21 (R)Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven,(T) but only the one who does the will(U) of My Father in heaven.(V)

21 "Not everyone who keeps saying to me, "Lord, Lord,' will get into the kingdom from heaven, but only the person who keeps doing the will of my Father in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, lord, have we not in thy name prophesied? and in thy name cast out demons? and in thy name done many mighty things?

22 (S)Many will say to Me on (T)that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many (n)miracles?’

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

22 On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons(W) in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?’(X)

22 Many will say to me on that day, "Lord, Lord, we prophesied in your name, drove out demons in your name, and performed many miracles in your name, didn't we?'

23 and then I will acknowledge to them, that -- I never knew you, depart from me ye who are working lawlessness.

23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; (U)depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

23 Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!(i)(Y)(j)

23 Then I will tell them plainly, "I never knew you. Get away from me, you who practice evil!'"

The Sermon On The Mount: Two Houses And Two Foundations

24 'Therefore, every one who doth hear of me these words, and doth do them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house upon the rock;

24 “Therefore (V)everyone who hears these words of Mine and (o)acts on them, (p)may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

24 “Therefore,(Z) everyone who hears these words(AA) of Mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on the rock.

24 "Therefore, everyone who listens to these messages of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on a rock.

25 and the rain did descend, and the streams came, and the winds blew, and they beat on that house, and it fell not, for it had been founded on the rock.

25 And the rain fell, and the (q)floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.

25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

25 The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock.

25 The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, but it did not collapse because its foundation was on the rock.

26 'And every one who is hearing of me these words, and is not doing them, shall be likened to a foolish man who built his house upon the sand;

26 Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not (r)act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

26 But everyone who hears these words of Mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

26 "Everyone who keeps on hearing these messages of mine and never puts them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.

27 and the rain did descend, and the streams came, and the winds blew, and they beat on that house, and it fell, and its fall was great.'

27 The rain fell, and the (s)floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”

27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

27 The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. And its collapse was great!”

27 The rain fell, the floods came, the winds blew and battered that house, and it collapsed and its collapse was total."

The Sermon On The Mount: Response

28 And it came to pass, when Jesus ended these words, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching,

28 (t)(W)When Jesus had finished these words, (X)the crowds were amazed at His teaching;

28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

28 When Jesus had finished this sermon,(k)(AB) the crowds were astonished at His teaching,(AC)

28 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, the crowds were utterly amazed at his teaching,

29 for he was teaching them as having authority, and not as the scribes.

29 for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

29 because He was teaching them like one who had authority, and not like their scribes.

29 because he was teaching them like a person who had authority, and not like their scribes.
