And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
Now Jesus stood before [Pilate] the governor, and the governor asked Him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” [In affirmation] Jesus said to him,
Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
But, to Pilate's great astonishment, he would not answer him a single word.
Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
Then while he was seated in Pilate's courtroom of justice, Pilate's wife sent [word] to him, saying, "You should have nothing to do with that innocent man. For I was very troubled in a dream over him today." [Note: That is, she was troubled over a dream she had before waking up that morning].
So when Pilate said to them, "Which of the two do you want me to release unto you?" they said, "Barabbas."
Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
"Why, what crime has he committed?" asked Pilate. But they kept on furiously shouting, "Let him be crucified!"
When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
The Pilate released Barabbas to them; but Jesus he scourged, and gave him up to be crucified.
Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus to Pilate's headquarters and assembled the entire company [i.e., about men] in front of Him.
And in the evening, there came a rich man of Arimathea, whose name was Joseph, who also himself was a disciple of Jesus, and went to Pilate,
He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.

But the high priests and the elders prevailed on the crowd to ask for Barabbas, and to have Jesus put to death. And the governor answered, "Which of the two do you want me to release for you?" They said, "Barabbas!" Pilate said to them, "Then what am I to do with Jesus, the so-called Christ?" They all said, "Have him crucified!" He said, "Why, what has he done that is wrong?" But they shouted all the louder, "Have him crucified!" When Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing but that a riot was beginning instead, he took some water and washed his hands in the presence of the crowd, saying, "I am not responsible for this man's death; you must see to it yourselves." And all the people answered, "His blood be on us and on our children!" Then he released Barabbas for them, and he had Jesus flogged and handed him over to be crucified.
So I will teach him a lesson and let him go." OMITTED TEXT But they all shouted out, "Kill him, and release Barabbas for us!" (He was a man who had been put in prison for a riot that had taken place in the city and for murder.) But Pilate wanted to let Jesus go, and he called out to them again. But they kept on shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" And he said to them a third time, "Why, what has he done that is wrong? For I have found nothing about him to call for his death. So I will teach him a lesson and let him go." But they persisted with loud outcries in demanding that he be crucified, and their shouting won. And Pilate pronounced sentence that what they asked for should be done.

Do you not know that it is in my power to release you or to have you crucified?" Jesus answered him, "You would have no power at all over me, if it were not given to you from above. So you are less guilty than the man who betrayed me to you." This made Pilate try to find a way to let him go, but the Jews shouted, "If you let him go, you are no friend of the emperor's! Anyone who calls himself a king utters treason against the emperor!" When Pilate heard that, he had Jesus brought out and had him sit in the judge's seat in the place they call the Stone Platform, or in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
