He called the place Massah [proof] and Meribah [contention] because of the faultfinding of the Israelites and because they tempted and tried the patience of the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among us or not?

Then Amalek [and his people] came and fought with Israel at Rephidim.

When they moved out from Rephidim, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai and they camped there; Israel camped at the base of the mountain [of Sinai].
And they set out from Alush and encamped at Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink. And they departed from Rephidim and encamped in the Wilderness of Sinai.
