Spies Sent To Spy Out The Land Of Canaan

11 Then the LORD spoke to Moses saying,

11 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

11 The Lord spoke to Moses:

11 Later, the LORD told Moses,

11 And the Lord said to Moses,

22 "Send out for yourself men so that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I am going to give to the sons of Israel; you shall send a man from each of their fathers' tribes, every one a leader among them."

22 Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.

22 "Send men to scout out the land of Canaan I am giving to the Israelites. Send one man who is a leader among them from each of their ancestral tribes."

22 "Send men to explore the land of Canaan that I'm about to give to the Israelis. Send one man to represent each of his ancestor's tribes, every one of them a distinguished leader among them."

22 Send men to explore and scout out [for yourselves] the land of Canaan, which I give to the Israelites. From each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a leader or head among them.

33 So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran at the command of the LORD, all of them men who were heads of the sons of Israel.

33 And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.

33 Moses sent them from the Wilderness of Paran at the Lord's command. All the men were leaders in Israel.

The Spies' Instructions

1717 When Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, he said to them, "Go up there into the Negev; then go up into the hill country.

1717 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:

1717 When Moses sent them to scout out the land of Canaan, he told them, "Go up this way to the Negev, then go up into the hill country.

1717 Moses renamed Nun's son Hoshea to Joshua. Then he sent them out to explore the land of Canaan. He instructed them, "Go up from here through the Negev, then ascend to the hill country.

1717 Moses sent them to scout out the land of Canaan, and said to them, Get up this way by the South (the Negeb) and go up into the hill country,

1818 "See what the land is like, and whether the people who live in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many.

1818 And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;

1818 See what the land is like, and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many.

1818 See what the land is like. Observe whether the people who live there are strong or weak, or whether they're few or numerous.

1818 And see what the land is and whether the people who dwell there are strong or weak, few or many,

1919 "How is the land in which they live, is it good or bad? And how are the cities in which they live, are they like open camps or with fortifications?

1919 And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;

1919 Is the land they live in good or bad? Are the cities they live in encampments or fortifications?

1919 Look to see whether the land where they live is good or bad, and whether the cities in which they live are merely tents or if they're fortified.

1919 And whether the land they live in is good or bad, and whether the cities they dwell in are camps or strongholds,

2020 "How is the land, is it fat or lean? Are there trees in it or not? Make an effort then to get some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes.

2020 And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.

2020 Is the land fertile or unproductive? Are there trees in it or not? Be courageous. Bring back some fruit from the land." It was the season for the first ripe grapes.

2020 And what the land is, whether it is fat or lean, whether there is timber on it or not. And be of good courage and bring some of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes.

The Spies' Activities

2121 So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob, at Lebo-hamath.

2121 So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.

2121 So they went up and scouted out the land from the Wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob near the entrance to Hamath.

2121 As it was, that time of year was the season for the first fruits of the grape harvest. So they went to explore the land from the Wilderness of Zin to Rehob, and as far as the outskirts of Hamath.

2121 So they went up and scouted through the land from the Wilderness of Zin to Rehob, to the entrance of Hamath.

2222 When they had gone up into the Negev, they came to Hebron where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak were (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

2222 And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

2222 They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were living. Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.

2222 They went through the Negev and reached Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak lived. (Hebron had been constructed seven years before Zoan in Egypt had been built).

2222 And then went up into the South (the Negeb) and came to Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai [probably three tribes of] the sons of Anak were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

2323 Then they came to the valley of Eshcol and from there cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes; and they carried it on a pole between two men, with some of the pomegranates and the figs.

2323 And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

2323 When they came to the Valley of Eshcol, they cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes, which was carried on a pole by two men. [They] also [took] some pomegranates and figs.

2323 Soon they arrived in the valley of Eshcol, where they cut a single branch of grapes and carried it on a pole between two men, along with some pomegranates and figs.

2323 And they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two [of them]; they brought also some pomegranates and figs.

2424 That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut down from there.

2424 The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.

2424 That place was called the Valley of Eshcol because of the cluster [of grapes] the Israelites cut there.

2424 The entire place was called the Eshcol Valley on account of the cluster of grapes that the men of Israel had taken from there.

2424 That place was called the Valley of Eshcol [cluster] because of the cluster which the Israelites cut down there.

The Spies Return

2525 When they returned from spying out the land, at the end of forty days,

2525 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

2525 At the end of 40 days they returned from scouting out the land.

2525 At the end of 40 days, they all returned from exploring the land,

2525 And they returned from scouting out the land after forty days.

Report About Canaan

2626 they proceeded to come to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; and they brought back word to them and to all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

2626 And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.

2626 The men went back to Moses, Aaron, and the entire Israelite community in the Wilderness of Paran at Kadesh. They brought back a report for them and the whole community, and they showed them the fruit of the land.

2626 came in to Moses and Aaron, and delivered their report to the entire congregation of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran at Kadesh. They brought back their report to the entire congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

2626 They came to Moses and Aaron and to all the Israelite congregation in the Wilderness of Paran at Kadesh, and brought them word, and showed them the land's fruit.

2727 Thus they told him, and said, "We went in to the land where you sent us; and it certainly does flow with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

2727 And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

2727 They reported to Moses: "We went into the land where you sent us. Indeed it is flowing with milk and honey, and here is some of its fruit.

2727 "We arrived at the place where you've sent us," they reported, "and it certainly does flow with milk and honey. Furthermore, this is its fruit,

2727 They told Moses, We came to the land to which you sent us; surely it flows with milk and honey. This is its fruit.

2828 "Nevertheless, the people who live in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and moreover, we saw the descendants of Anak there.

2828 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

2828 However, the people living in the land are strong, and the cities are large and fortified. We also saw the descendants of Anak there.

2828 except that the people who have settled in the land are strong, and their cities are greatly fortified. We also saw the descendants of Anak.

2828 But the people who dwell there are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; moreover, there we saw the sons of Anak [of great stature and courage].

2929 "Amalek is living in the land of the Negev and the Hittites and the Jebusites and the Amorites are living in the hill country, and the Canaanites are living by the sea and by the side of the Jordan."

2929 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.

2929 The Amalekites are living in the land of the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live by the sea and along the Jordan."

2929 Amalek lives throughout the Negev, while the Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites live in the hill country. The Canaanites live by the sea and on the bank of the Jordan."

2929 Amalek dwells in the land of the South (the Negeb); the Hittite, the Jebusite, and the Amorite dwell in the hill country; and the Canaanite dwells by the sea and along by the side of the Jordan [River].

3030 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, "We should by all means go up and take possession of it, for we will surely overcome it."

3030 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

3030 Then Caleb quieted the people in the presence of Moses and said, "We must go up and take possession of the land because we can certainly conquer it!"

3030 Caleb silenced the people on Moses' behalf and responded, "Let's go up and take control, because we can definitely conquer it."

3030 Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once and possess it; we are well able to conquer it.

3131 But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are too strong for us."

3131 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

3131 But the men who had gone up with him responded, "We can't go up against the people because they are stronger than we are!"

3131 "We can't attack those people," the men who were with him said, "because they're too strong compared to us."

3131 But his fellow scouts said, We are not able to go up against the people [of Canaan], for they are stronger than we are.

3232 So they gave out to the sons of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land through which we have gone, in spying it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great size.

3232 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

3232 So they gave a negative report to the Israelites about the land they had scouted: "The land we passed through to explore is one that devours its inhabitants, and all the people we saw in it are men of great size.

3232 So they put out this false report to the Israelis about the land that they had explored: "The land that we've explored is one that devours its inhabitants. All the people whom we observed were giants.

3232 So they brought the Israelites an evil report of the land which they had scouted out, saying, The land through which we went to spy it out is a land that devours its inhabitants. And all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.

3333 "There also we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."

3333 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

3333 We even saw the Nephilim there." (The offspring of Anak were descended from the Nephilim.) "To ourselves we seemed like grasshoppers, and we must have seemed the same to them."

3333 We also saw the Nephilim, the descendants of Anak. Compared to the Nephilim, as we see things, we're like grasshoppers, and that's their opinion of us!"

3333 There we saw the Nephilim [or giants], the sons of Anak, who come from the giants; and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
