1 And Balaam said unto Balak, "Build me here seven altars and provide here seven oxen and seven rams."
1 Then Balaam said to Balak, “Build seven altars for me here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here.”

2 And Balak did as Balaam said. And Balak and Balaam offered on every altar an ox and a ram.
2 Balak did just as Balaam had spoken, and Balak and Balaam offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.

3 And Balaam said unto Balak, "Stand by the sacrifice, while I go to know whether the LORD will come and meet me; and whatsoever he showeth me, I will tell thee." And he went forthwith.
3 Then Balaam said to Balak, “Stand beside your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps the Lord will come to meet me, and whatever He shows me I will tell you.” So he went to a bare hill.
3 And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.
3 Balaam said to Balak, “Stay here by your burnt offering while I am gone. Maybe the Lord(a) will meet with me. I will tell you whatever He reveals to me.” So he went to a barren hill.
3 Then Balaam instructed Balak, "Stand by your offering and leave me alone by myself. Perhaps the LORD will come to meet me. I'll tell you whatever he reveals to me."
4 And God came unto Balaam, and Balaam said unto him, "I have prepared seven altars, and have offered upon every altar, an ox and a ram."
4 Now God met Balaam, and he said to Him, “I have set up the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.”
4 And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.
4 God(b) met with him and Balaam said to Him, “I have arranged seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.”
4 And so he went to a high place, where the LORD met with Balaam, who told him, "I've prepared seven altars and offered bulls and rams on an altar."
5 And the LORD put a saying in Balaam's mouth, and said, "Go again to Balak and say on this wise."
5 Then the Lord (A)put a word in Balaam’s mouth and said, “Return to Balak, and you shall speak thus.”
5 And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.
5 Then the Lord put a message in Balaam’s mouth and said, “Return to Balak and say what I tell you.”
5 Then the LORD gave Balaam this message. "Return to Balak and speak to him."
6 And he went again unto him and lo, he stood by his sacrifice: both he and all the lords of Moab.
6 So he returned to him, and behold, he was standing beside his burnt offering, he and all the leaders of Moab.
6 And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.
6 So he returned to Balak, who was standing there by his burnt offering with all the officials of Moab.
6 So Balaam returned to where Balak had been standing, that is, next to his offerings, accompanied by all the Moabite officials.
7 And he began his parable, and said, "Balak the king of Moab hath fetched me from Mesopotamia out of the mountains of the east saying, 'Come and curse me Jacob, come and defy me Israel.'
7 He took up his (a)discourse and said,“From (B)Aram Balak has brought me,Moab’s king from the mountains of the East,‘(C)Come curse Jacob for me,And come, denounce Israel!’
7 And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.
7 Balaam proclaimed his poem:Balak brought me from Aram;(A)the king of Moab, from the eastern mountains:“Come, put a curse on Jacob for me;come, denounce Israel!”(B)
7 Then Balaam uttered this prophetic statement: "King Balak of Moab brought me from Aram, from the eastern mountains, and told me, "Come and curse Jacob for me. Come and curse Israel.'
8 How shall I curse whom God curseth not? And how shall I defy whom the LORD defieth not?
8 “(D)How shall I curse whom God has not cursed?And how can I denounce whom the Lord has not denounced?
8 How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?
8 How can I curse someone God has not cursed?How can I denounce someone the Lord has not denounced?
8 But how can I curse those whom God hasn't cursed? How can I denounce those whom the LORD hasn't denounced?
9 From the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: Lo, the people shall dwell by himself and shall not be reckoned among other nations.
9 “As I see him from the top of the rocks,And I look at him from the hills;(E)Behold, a people who dwells apart,And will not be reckoned among the nations.
9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
9 I see them from the top of rocky cliffs,and I watch them from the hills.There is a people living alone;(C)it does not consider itself among the nations.
9 I saw them from the top of the rocks. I watched them from the hills. Truly this is a people that lives by itself and doesn't matter among the nations.
10 Who can tell the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? I pray God that my soul may die the death of the righteous, and that my last end may be like his!"
10 “(F)Who can count the dust of Jacob,Or number the fourth part of Israel?(G)Let (b)me die the death of the upright,(H)And let my end be like his!”
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!
10 Who has counted the dust of Jacobor numbered the dust clouds(c) of Israel?Let me die the death of the upright;let the end of my life be like theirs.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob? Who can number the dust of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and may I end up like him."
11 And Balak said unto Balaam, "What hast thou done unto me? I fetched thee to curse mine enemies: and behold, thou blessest them!"
11 Then Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? (I)I took you to curse my enemies, but behold, you have actually blessed them!”
11 And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.
11 “What have you done to me?” Balak asked Balaam. “I brought you to curse my enemies, but look, you have only blessed them!”
11 "What are you doing to me?" Balak asked Balaam. "I brought you to curse my enemies, not pronounce a blessing!"
12 And he answered, and said, "Must I not keep that and speak it, which the LORD hath put in my mouth?"
12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?
12 But in response, Balaam asked, "Shouldn't I be careful to communicate only what the LORD puts in my mouth?"
13 And Balak said unto him, "Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place: whence thou shalt see them, and shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all and curse me them there."
13 Then Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place from where you may see them, although you will only see the extreme end of them and will not see all of them; and curse them for me from there.”
13 And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.
13 Then Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place where you can see them. You will only see the outskirts of their camp; you won’t see all of them. From there, put a curse on them for me.”
13 "Come with me to another place where you can see them," Balak replied. "You'll only see a portion of them, because you won't be able to see them completely. Come and curse them from there for me."
14 And he brought him into a plain field where men might see far, even to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars and offered an ox and a ram on every altar.
14 So he took him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.

15 And he said unto Balak, "Stand here, by thy sacrifice, while I go yonder."

16 And the LORD met Balaam and put words in his mouth, and said, "Go again unto Balak and thus say."

16 The Lord met with Balaam and put a message in his mouth. Then He said, “Return to Balak and say what I tell you.”
16 Then the LORD met with Balaam and gave a message to him. "Now go back to Balak and speak to him."
17 And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his sacrifice: and the lords of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, "What sayeth the LORD?"
17 He came to him, and behold, he was standing beside his burnt offering, and the leaders of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, “What has the Lord spoken?”
17 And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken?
17 So he returned to Balak, who was standing there by his burnt offering with the officials of Moab. Balak asked him, “What did the Lord say?”
17 So Balaam returned to where Balak had been standing, that is, next to his offerings, accompanied by the Moabite officials. "What did the LORD say?" Balak asked him.
18 And he took up his parable and said, "Rise up, Balak, and hear! And hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor!
18 Then he took up his (c)discourse and said,“Arise, O Balak, and hear;Give ear to me, O son of Zippor!

18 Balaam proclaimed his poem:Balak, get up and listen;son of Zippor, pay attention to what I say!
18 In response, Balaam uttered this prophetic statement: "Stand up, Balak, and pay attention! Listen to me, you son of Zippor!
19 The Lord God is not a man, that he can lie; neither the son of a man, that he can repent! Should he say, and not do? Or should he speak, and not make it good?
19 “(L)God is not a man, that He should lie,Nor a son of man, that He should repent;(M)Has He said, and will He not do it?Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
19 God is not a man who lies,or a son of man who changes His mind.Does He speak and not act,or promise and not fulfill?(E)
19 God is not a human male he doesn't lie, nor is he a human being he never vacillates. Once he speaks up, he's going to act, isn't he? Once he makes a promise, he'll fulfill it, won't he?
21 He beheld no wickedness in Jacob, nor saw Idolatry in Israel: The LORD his God is with him, and the tromp of a king among them.
21 “(P)He has not observed (d)misfortune in Jacob;(Q)Nor has He seen trouble in Israel;(R)The Lord his God is with him,(S)And the shout of a king is among them.
21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.
21 He considers no disaster for Jacob;He sees no trouble for Israel.(f)The Lord their God is with them,(F)and there is rejoicing over the King among them.
21 He has not responded to iniquity in Jacob or gazed at mischief in Israel. The LORD his God is with them, and the triumphant cry of a king is among them.
23 For there is no sorcerer in Jacob, nor soothsayer in Israel. When the time cometh, it will be said of Jacob and of Israel, 'What God hath wrought!'
23 “(V)For there is no omen against Jacob,Nor is there any divination against Israel;At the proper time it shall be said to JacobAnd to Israel, what God has done!
23 Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!
23 There is no magic curse against Jacoband no divination against Israel.It will now be said about Jacob and Israel,“What great things God has done!”
23 No Satanic plan against Jacob nor divination against Israel can ever prevail. When the time is right, it is to be asked about Jacob and Israel, "What has God accomplished?'
24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a lioness and heave up himself as a lion; and shall not lie down again, until he have eaten of the prey and drunk of the blood of them that are slain!"
24 “(W)Behold, a people rises like a lioness,And as a lion it lifts itself;It will not lie down until it devours the prey,And drinks the blood of the slain.”
24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.
24 A people rise up like a lioness;They rouse themselves like a lion.(H)They will not lie down until they devour the preyand drink the blood of the slain.
24 Look! The people are like lions. Like the lion, he rises up! He does not lie down again until he has consumed his prey and drunk the blood of the slain."
25 And Balak said unto Balaam, "Neither curse them nor bless them."
25 Then Balak said to Balaam, “Do not curse them at all nor bless them at all!”
25 And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.
25 Then Balak told Balaam, “Don’t curse them and don’t bless them!”
25 Then Balak told Balaam, "Don't curse them or bless them!"
26 And Balaam answered and said unto Balak, "Told not I thee, saying, 'All that the LORD biddeth me, that I must do?'"
26 But Balaam replied to Balak, “Did I not tell you, ‘(e)(X)Whatever the Lord speaks, that I must do’?”
26 But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do?
26 "Didn't I tell you," Balaam responded to Balak, "that I'll say whatever the LORD tells me to say?"
27 And Balak said unto Balaam, "Come, I pray thee; I will bring thee yet unto another place: so peradventure it shall please God that thou mayest curse them there."
27 Then Balak said to Balaam, “Please come, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will be (f)agreeable with God that you curse them for me from there.”
27 And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.
27 Again Balak said to Balaam, “Please come. I will take you to another place. Maybe it will be agreeable to God that you can put a curse on them for me there.”
27 So Balak exhorted Balaam, "Let's go right now! I'll take you to another place. Maybe God will agree to have you curse them for me from there."
29 And Balaam said unto Balak, "Make me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams."
29 Balaam said to Balak, “Build seven altars for me here and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here.”
