The Passover

1 And Yahweh spake unto Moses in the desert of Sinai, in the second year by their coming forth out of the land of Egypt in the first month, saying:

1 Thus the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in (A)the first month of the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

1 In the first month of the second year after their departure from the land of Egypt, the Lord told Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai:(A)

1 The LORD spoke to Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai during the first month of the second year that they had left Egypt,

2 Let the sons of Israel therefore, keep the passover in its appointed season:

2 “Now, let the sons of Israel observe the Passover at (B)its appointed time.

2 Let the children of Israel also keep the passover at his appointed season.

2 “The Israelites are to observe the Passover at its appointed time.(B)

2 "The Israelis are to observe the Passover at its appointed time

3 on he fourteenth day of this month between the two evenings, shall ye keep it, in its appointed season, - according to all the statute thereof and according to all the regulations thereof, shall ye keep it.

3 On the fourteenth day of this month, (a)at twilight, you shall observe it at its appointed time; you shall observe it according to all its statutes and according to all its ordinances.”

3 In the fourteenth day of this month, at even, ye shall keep it in his appointed season: according to all the rites of it, and according to all the ceremonies thereof, shall ye keep it.

3 You must observe it at its appointed time on the fourteenth day of this month at twilight; you are to observe it according to all its statutes and ordinances.”(C)

3 on the fourteenth day of this month. You are to observe it at this appointed time between the evenings. You are to observe it according to all its decrees and laws."

4 Then spake Moses unto the sons of Israel that they should keep the passover.

4 So Moses (b)told the sons of Israel to observe the Passover.

4 And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, that they should keep the passover.

4 So Moses told the Israelites to observe the Passover,

4 So Moses instructed the Israelis to observe the Passover.

5 So they kept the passover in the first month , on the fourteenth day of the month between the two evenings, in the desert of Sinai, - according to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so, did the sons of Israel.

5 (C)They observed the Passover in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, at twilight, in the wilderness of Sinai; (D)according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel did.

5 And they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month at even in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel.

5 and they observed it in the first month on the fourteenth day at twilight in the Wilderness of Sinai. The Israelites did everything as the Lord had commanded Moses.

5 They observed the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight, in the Wilderness of Sinai. The Israelis did everything that the LORD had commanded through Moses.

6 But so it was that there were, certain men who had become unclean by a dead person, and could not keep the passover on that day, - therefore came they near before Moses and before Aaron on that day.

6 But there were some men who were (E)unclean because of the (c)dead person, so that they could not observe Passover on that day; so (F)they came before Moses and Aaron on that day.

6 And there were certain men, who were defiled by the dead body of a man, that they could not keep the passover on that day: and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day:

6 But there were some men who were unclean because of a human corpse, so they could not observe the Passover on that day.(D) These men came before Moses and Aaron the same day

6 But there were men who couldn't observe the Passover that day because they had come in contact with a corpse. That very day, they approached Moses and Aaron

7 Then said those men unto him, We, are unclean by a dead person, - wherefore should we become of less esteem for want of offering the oblation of Yahweh in its appointed season, in the midst of the sons of Israel?

7 Those men said to him, “Though we are unclean because of the (d)dead person, why are we restrained from presenting the offering of the Lord at its appointed time among the sons of Israel?”

7 And those men said unto him, We are defiled by the dead body of a man: wherefore are we kept back, that we may not offer an offering of the LORD in his appointed season among the children of Israel?

7 and said to him, “We are unclean because of a human corpse. Why should we be excluded from presenting the Lord’s offering at its appointed time with the other Israelites?”

7 and asked, "Why can't we bring an offering to the LORD at the appointed time among the Israelis, even though we are unclean because we came in contact with a corpse?"

8 And Moses said unto them, - Stay, and let me hear, what Yahweh shall command concerning you!

8 Moses therefore said to them, “(e)(G)Wait, and I will listen to what the Lord will command concerning you.”

8 And Moses said unto them, Stand still, and I will hear what the LORD will command concerning you.

8 Moses replied to them, “Wait here until I hear what the Lord commands for you.”

8 "Wait while I hear what the LORD has to say about you," Moses replied.

9 Speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, - Though, any man, be unclean by a dead person or be on a journey afar off, whether in the case of yourselves or of your generations, yet shall he keep a passover unto Yahweh.

9 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

9 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

9 Then the Lord spoke to Moses:

9 Then the LORD told Moses,

10 In the second month, on the fourteenth day between the two evenings, shall they keep it, - with unleavened cakes and bitter herbs, shall they eat it.

10 “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If any one of you or of your generations becomes unclean because of a dead (f)person, or is on a distant journey, he may, however, observe the Passover to the Lord.

10 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If any man of you or of your posterity shall be unclean by reason of a dead body, or be in a journey afar off, yet he shall keep the passover unto the LORD.

10 “Tell the Israelites: When any one of you or your descendants is unclean because of a corpse(E) or is on a distant journey, he may still observe the Passover to the Lord.

10 "Instruct the Israelis that when any of you or your descendants becomes unclean due to contact with a corpse, or if he is on a long journey, he nevertheless is to observe the LORD's Passover.

11 They shall not leave thereof until morning, and no bone, shall they break therein - according to all the statutes of the passover, shall they keep it.

11 In the second month on the (H)fourteenth day at twilight, they shall observe it; they (I)shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

11 The fourteenth day of the second month at even they shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

11 Such people are to observe it in the second month, on the fourteenth day at twilight. They are to eat the animal with unleavened bread and bitter herbs;(F)

11 On the fourteenth day of the second month at twilight, they are to eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

12 But as for the man who is, clean, and no a journey, doth not chance to be and yet faileth to keep the passover, that person shall he cut off from among his kinsfolk, - for the oblation of Yahweh, hath he not offered in its appointed season, his own sin, shall, that man, bear.

12 They (J)shall leave none of it until morning, (K)nor break a bone of it; according to all the statute of the Passover they shall observe it.

12 They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it.

12 they may not leave any of it until morning or break any of its bones.(G) They must observe the Passover according to all its statutes.

12 They are not to leave any of it to remain until morning nor are they to break any of its bones. They are to observe it according to all the statutes of the Passover.

13 When moreover there may sojourn with you a sojourner, who would keep a passover unto Yahweh, according to the statute of the passover, and according to the regulation thereof, so, must he keep it , - one statute, shall there be for you, both for the sojourner and for the native of the land.

13 (L)But the man who is clean and is not on a journey, and yet (g)neglects to observe the Passover, that (h)person shall then be cut off from his people, for he did not present the offering of the Lord at its appointed time. That man (M)will bear his sin.

13 But the man that is clean, and is not in a journey, and forbeareth to keep the passover, even the same soul shall be cut off from among his people: because he brought not the offering of the LORD in his appointed season, that man shall bear his sin.

13 “But the man who is ceremonially clean, is not on a journey, and yet fails to observe the Passover is to be cut off from his people, because he did not present the Lord’s offering at its appointed time. That man will bear the consequences of his sin.

13 Now as to the person who is clean and isn't traveling, but fails to observe the Passover, that person is to be eliminated from his people, because he didn't bring an offering to the LORD at its appointed time. That person is to bear his sin.

The Cloud And The Fire

14 Now, on the day the habitation was reared, the cloud covered the habitation, even the tent of the testimony, - and in the evening, it was over the habitation, like an appearance of fire, until morning,

14 (N)If an alien sojourns among you and (i)observes the Passover to the Lord, according to the statute of the Passover and according to its ordinance, so he shall do; you shall have (O)one statute, both for the alien and for the native of the land.’”

14 And if a stranger shall sojourn among you, and will keep the passover unto the LORD; according to the ordinance of the passover, and according to the manner thereof, so shall he do: ye shall have one ordinance, both for the stranger, and for him that was born in the land.

14 “If a foreigner resides with you and wants to observe the Passover to the Lord,(H) he is to do so according to the Passover statute and its ordinances. You are to apply the same statute to both the foreign resident and the native of the land.”(I)

14 If a resident alien lives with you and wants to observe the LORD's Passover, let him observe it according to the statutes and laws of the Passover. You are to maintain the same statute for the resident alien as you do for the native of the land."

15 Thus, came it to pass continually, the cloud, covered it, - and an appearance of fire, by night;

15 Now on (P)the day that the tabernacle was erected (Q)the cloud covered the tabernacle, the (R)tent of the testimony, and (S)in the evening it was like the appearance of fire over the tabernacle, until morning.

15 And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, namely, the tent of the testimony: and at even there was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until the morning.

15 On the day the tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the testimony,(J) and it appeared like fire above the tabernacle from evening until morning.

15 On the same morning that the tent was set up, a cloud covered the tent, that is, the Tent of Testimony, and in the evening fire appeared over the tent until morning.

16 but at the bidding of the upgoings of the cloud from off the tent, then, after that, the sons of Israel set forward, - and in the place where the cloud abode, there the sons of Israel encamped:

16 So it was continuously; (T)the cloud would cover it by day, and the appearance of fire by night.

16 So it was alway: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night.

16 It remained that way continuously: the cloud would cover it,(a) appearing like fire at night.(K)

16 It was so continuously there was a cloud covering by day, and a fire cloud appeared at night.

17 at the bidding of Yahweh, the sons of Israel set forward, and at the bidding of Yahweh, they encamped, - all the days that the cloud abode upon the habitation, they remained encamped.

17 (U)Whenever the cloud was lifted from over the tent, afterward the sons of Israel would then set out; and in the place where the cloud settled down, there the sons of Israel would camp.

17 And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the children of Israel journeyed: and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel pitched their tents.

17 Whenever the cloud was lifted up above the tent, the Israelites would set out; at the place where the cloud stopped, there the Israelites camped.(L)

17 Whenever the cloud above the tent ascended, the Israelis would travel and encamp in the place where the cloud settled.

18 And when the cloud lengthened out its stay upon the habitation, many days, then would the sons of Israel keep the watch of Yahweh, and would not set forward.

18 At the (j)command of the Lord the sons of Israel would set out, and at the (k)command of the Lord they would camp; (V)as long as the cloud settled over the tabernacle, they remained camped.

18 At the commandment of the LORD the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.

18 At the Lord’s command the Israelites set out, and at the Lord’s command they camped. As long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle, they camped.

18 According to whatever the LORD said, the Israelis would travel. According to whatever the LORD said, they would camp as long as the cloud remained over the Tent of Meeting.

19 And, so it was, when the cloud would be a few days upon the habitation, at the bidding of Yahweh, they remained encamped, and at the bidding of Yahweh, they set forward.

19 Even when the cloud lingered over the tabernacle for many days, (l)the sons of Israel would keep the Lord’s charge and not set out.

19 And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the LORD, and journeyed not.

19 Even when the cloud stayed over the tabernacle many days, the Israelites carried out the Lord’s requirement and did not set out.

19 When the cloud over the tent remained for a longer time, the Israelis did what the LORD had instructed and didn't travel.

20 And, so it was, when the cloud would be from evening until morning, as soon as the cloud went up in the morning, so soon did they set forward: whether by day or by night, as soon as the cloud went up, so soon did they set forward.

20 If (m)sometimes the cloud remained a few days over the tabernacle, (W)according to the (n)command of the Lord they remained camped. Then according to the (o)command of the Lord they set out.

20 And so it was, when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; according to the commandment of the LORD they abode in their tents, and according to the commandment of the LORD they journeyed.

20 Sometimes the cloud remained over the tabernacle for only a few days. They would camp at the Lord’s command and set out at the Lord’s command.

20 There were times when the cloud remained over the tent for a number of days. They camped in accordance with the LORD's instructions and they traveled in accordance with the LORD'S instructions.

21 Whether for two days or a month or a year, the cloud lengthened out its stay upon the habitation abiding thereupon, the sons of Israel remained encamped and set not forward, - but at the upgoings thereof, they set forward.

21 If (p)sometimes the cloud (q)remained from evening until morning, when the cloud was lifted in the morning, they would move out; or if it remained in the daytime and at night, whenever the cloud was lifted, they would set out.

21 And so it was, when the cloud abode from even unto the morning, and that the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they journeyed: whether it was by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they journeyed.

21 Sometimes the cloud remained only from evening until morning; when the cloud lifted in the morning, they set out. Or if it remained a day and a night, they moved out when the cloud lifted.

21 There were times when the cloud remained from evening until morning, but when the cloud ascended in the morning, they would journey. Whether by day or by night, they would travel whenever the cloud ascended.

The Cloud Over The Sacred Tent

22 At the bidding of Yahweh, they encamped, and at the bidding of Yahweh, they set forward, - the watch of Yahweh, they kept, at the bidding of Yahweh by the hand of Moses.

22 Whether it was two days or a month or a year that the cloud lingered over the tabernacle, staying above it, the sons of Israel remained camped and did not set out; but (X)when it was lifted, they did set out.

22 Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed.

22 Whether it was two days, a month, or longer,(b) the Israelites camped and did not set out as long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle. But when it was lifted, they set out.

22 Whether for two days, a month, or for longer periods, whenever the cloud would remain above the tent, the Israelis would remain in camp, not traveling. But whenever it ascended, then they would travel.
