Wisdom And Piety

11 My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments;

11 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

11 My son, don't forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commands;

11 My son, don't forget my instruction, and keep my commandments carefully in mind.

11 My son, forget not my law or teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments;

22 For length of days and years of life And peace they will add to you.

22 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

22 for they will bring you many days, a full life, and well-being.

22 For they will add length to your days, years to your life, and abundant peace to you.

22 For length of days and years of a life [worth living] and tranquility [inward and outward and continuing through old age till death], these shall they add to you.

33 Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.

33 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

33 Never let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Tie them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.

33 Do not let gracious love and truth leave you. Bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart,

33 Let not mercy and kindness [shutting out all hatred and selfishness] and truth [shutting out all deliberate hypocrisy or falsehood] forsake you; bind them about your neck, write them upon the tablet of your heart.

44 So you will find favor and good repute In the sight of God and man.

44 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

44 Then you will find favor and high regard in the sight of God and man.

44 and find favor and a good reputation with God and men.

44 So shall you find favor, good understanding, and high esteem in the sight [or judgment] of God and man.

55 Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding.

55 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

55 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding;

55 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not depend on your own understanding.

55 Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.

66 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

66 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

66 think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.

66 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

66 In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.

77 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.

77 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

77 Don't consider yourself to be wise; fear the Lord and turn away from evil.

77 Do not be wise in your own opinion. Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.

77 Be not wise in your own eyes; reverently fear and worship the Lord and turn [entirely] away from evil.

88 It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones.

88 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

88 This will be healing for your body and strengthening for your bones.

88 This will bring healing to your body, and refreshment to your bones.

88 It shall be health to your nerves and sinews, and marrow and moistening to your bones.

99 Honor the LORD from your wealth And from the first of all your produce;

99 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

99 Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest;

99 Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the first of all your produce,

99 Honor the Lord with your capital and sufficiency [from righteous labors] and with the firstfruits of all your income;

1010 So your barns will be filled with plenty And your vats will overflow with new wine.

1010 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

1010 then your barns will be completely filled, and your vats will overflow with new wine.

1010 so your barns will be filled with abundance, and your vats will burst open with new wine.

1010 So shall your storage places be filled with plenty, and your vats shall be overflowing with new wine.

Happy Is The One Who Finds Wisdom

1111 My son, do not reject the discipline of the LORD Or loathe His reproof,

1111 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:

1111 Do not despise the Lord's instruction, my son, and do not loathe His discipline;

1111 My son, do not reject the LORD's discipline, and do not despise his correction,

1111 My son, do not despise or shrink from the chastening of the Lord [His correction by punishment or by subjection to suffering or trial]; neither be weary of or impatient about or loathe or abhor His reproof,

1212 For whom the LORD loves He reproves, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.

1212 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

1212 for the Lord disciplines the one He loves, just as a father, the son he delights in.

1212 because the LORD corrects the person he loves, just as a father corrects the son he delights in.

1212 For whom the Lord loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.

Wisdom Brings Happiness

1313 How blessed is the man who finds wisdom And the man who gains understanding.

1313 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

1313 Happy is a man who finds wisdom and who acquires understanding,

1313 How joyful is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding,

1313 Happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) is the man who finds skillful and godly Wisdom, and the man who gets understanding [drawing it forth from God's Word and life's experiences],

1414 For her profit is better than the profit of silver And her gain better than fine gold.

1414 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

1414 for she is more profitable than silver, and her revenue is better than gold.

1414 because her profit is better than the profit of silver, and her yield than fine gold.

1414 For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, and the profit of it better than fine gold.

1515 She is more precious than jewels; And nothing you desire compares with her.

1515 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

1515 She is more precious than jewels; nothing you desire compares with her.

1515 She is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire compares with her.

1515 Skillful and godly Wisdom is more precious than rubies; and nothing you can wish for is to be compared to her.

1616 Long life is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor.

1616 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.

1616 Long life is in her right hand; in her left, riches and honor.

1616 Long life is in her right hand, and in her left are riches and honor.

1616 Length of days is in her right hand, and in her left hand are riches and honor.

1717 Her ways are pleasant ways And all her paths are peace.

1717 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

1717 Her ways are pleasant, and all her paths, peaceful.

1717 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peaceful.

1717 Her ways are highways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

1818 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who hold her fast.

1818 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

1818 She is a tree of life to those who embrace her, and those who hold on to her are happy.

1818 She is a tree of life for those who embrace her, and whoever clutches her tightly will be joyful.

1818 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold on her; and happy (blessed, fortunate, to be envied) is everyone who holds her fast.

1919 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth, By understanding He established the heavens.

1919 The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.

1919 The Lord founded the earth by wisdom and established the heavens by understanding.

1919 By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations, and by understanding he set the heavens in place.

1919 The Lord by skillful and godly Wisdom has founded the earth; by understanding He has established the heavens.

2020 By His knowledge the deeps were broken up And the skies drip with dew.

2020 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.

2020 By His knowledge the watery depths broke open, and the clouds dripped with dew.

2020 By his knowledge the depths broke open, and the clouds drip with dew.

2020 By His knowledge the deeps were broken up, and the skies distill the dew.

2121 My son, let them not vanish from your sight; Keep sound wisdom and discretion,

2121 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

2121 Maintain [your] competence and discretion. My son, don't lose sight of them.

2121 My son, do not let wisdom leave your sight. Carefully observe sound judgment and discernment,

2121 My son, let them not escape from your sight, but keep sound and godly Wisdom and discretion,

2222 So they will be life to your soul And adornment to your neck.

2222 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

2222 They will be life for you and adornment for your neck.

2222 and they will be life to you and a graceful ornament for your neck.

2222 And they will be life to your inner self, and a gracious ornament to your neck (your outer self).

2323 Then you will walk in your way securely And your foot will not stumble.

2323 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

2323 Then you will go safely on your way; your foot will not stumble.

2323 Then you will travel safely on your way, and your foot will not stumble.

2323 Then you will walk in your way securely and in confident trust, and you shall not dash your foot or stumble.

2424 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

2424 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

2424 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; you will lie down, and your sleep will be pleasant.

2424 When you sit down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be pleasant.

2424 When you lie down, you shall not be afraid; yes, you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet.

2525 Do not be afraid of sudden fear Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes;

2525 Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.

2525 Don't fear sudden danger or the ruin of the wicked when it comes,

2525 Do not be afraid of sudden disaster, or the devastation that comes to the wicked.

2525 Be not afraid of sudden terror and panic, nor of the stormy blast or the storm and ruin of the wicked when it comes [for you will be guiltless],

2626 For the LORD will be your confidence And will keep your foot from being caught.

2626 For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

2626 for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from a snare.

2626 Indeed, the LORD will be your confidence, and he will keep your foot from being caught.

2626 For the Lord shall be your confidence, firm and strong, and shall keep your foot from being caught [in a trap or some hidden danger].

Treat Others Fairly

2727 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in your power to do it.

2727 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.

2727 When it is in your power, don't withhold good from the one to whom it is due.

2727 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.

2727 Withhold not good from those to whom it is due [its rightful owners], when it is in the power of your hand to do it.

2828 Do not say to your neighbor, "Go, and come back, And tomorrow I will give it," When you have it with you.

2828 Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.

2828 Don't say to your neighbor, "Go away! Come back later. I'll give it tomorrow"-when it is there with you.

2828 Do not say to your neighbor, "Go, and come back. I will pay you tomorrow," when you have cash with you.

2828 Do not say to your neighbor, Go, and come again; and tomorrow I will give it -- "when you have it with you.

2929 Do not devise harm against your neighbor, While he lives securely beside you.

2929 Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

2929 Don't plan any harm against your neighbor, for he trusts you and lives near you.

2929 Do not plan to harm your neighbor, when he is living peacefully beside you.

2929 Do not contrive or dig up or cultivate evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly and confidently beside you.

3030 Do not contend with a man without cause, If he has done you no harm.

3030 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

3030 Don't accuse anyone without cause, when he has done you no harm.

3030 Do not bring a lawsuit against a person for no reason, when he has done you no harm.

3030 Contend not with a man for no reason -- "when he has done you no wrong.

3131 Do not envy a man of violence And do not choose any of his ways.

3131 Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

3131 Don't envy a violent man or choose any of his ways;

3131 Do not envy a violent man, and do not emulate his lifestyle.

3131 Do not resentfully envy and be jealous of an unscrupulous, grasping man, and choose none of his ways.

3232 For the devious are an abomination to the LORD; But He is intimate with the upright.

3232 For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.

3232 for the devious are detestable to the Lord, but He is a friend to the upright.

3232 Indeed, a perverse man is utterly disgusting to the LORD, but he takes the upright into his confidence.

3232 For the perverse are an abomination [extremely disgusting and detestable] to the Lord; but His confidential communion and secret counsel are with the [uncompromisingly] righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with Him).

3333 The curse of the LORD is on the house of the wicked, But He blesses the dwelling of the righteous.

3333 The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.

3333 The Lord's curse is on the household of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the righteous;

3333 The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the dwelling of the righteous.

3333 The curse of the Lord is in and on the house of the wicked, but He declares blessed (joyful and favored with blessings) the home of the just and consistently righteous.

3434 Though He scoffs at the scoffers, Yet He gives grace to the afflicted.

3434 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

3434 He mocks those who mock, but gives grace to the humble.

3434 Though God scoffs at scoffers, he gives grace to the humble.

3434 Though He scoffs at the scoffers and scorns the scorners, yet He gives His undeserved favor to the low [in rank], the humble, and the afflicted.

3535 The wise will inherit honor, But fools display dishonor.

3535 The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

3535 The wise will inherit honor, but He holds up fools to dishonor.

3535 The wise will inherit honor, but he holds fools up for ridicule.

3535 The wise shall inherit glory (all honor and good) but shame is the highest rank conferred on [self-confident] fools.
