1 A discourse by the faithful collector. This is what this valiant man declared to the God with me, to the God with me, who then prevailed:

2 For I am more brutish than any one, And have not the understanding of a man.

2 Surely I am more (A)stupid than any man,And I do not have the understanding of a man.

2 Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.

2 I am more stupid than any other man,(c)and I lack man’s ability to understand.(B)

2 Surely I am beyond the senselessness of any man; I do not perceive things the way human beings do.

3 Nor have I learned wisdom, Yet the knowledge of Holy Ones I know.

3 Neither have I learned wisdom,Nor do I have the (B)knowledge of the Holy One.

3 I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.

3 I have not gained wisdom,and I have no knowledge of the Holy One.(C)

3 I never acquired wisdom, but I know what the Holy One knows.

4 Who went up to heaven, and cometh down? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound waters in a garment? Who established all ends of the earth? What is His name? and what His son's name? Surely thou knowest!

4 Who has (C)ascended into heaven and descended?Who has gathered the (D)wind in His fists?Who has (E)wrapped the waters in (b)His garment?Who has (F)established all the ends of the earth?What is His (G)name or His son’s name?Surely you know!

4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

4 Who has gone up to heaven and come down?(D)Who has gathered the wind in His hands?Who has bound up the waters in a cloak?(E)Who has established all the ends of the earth?(F)What is His name,and what is the name of His Son—if you know?(G)

4 Who has ascended to heaven, and then descended? Who has collected the wind in his hands? Who has wrapped up waters in a garment? Who has established all the farthest points of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name? Surely you know!

5 Every saying of God is tried, A shield He is to those trusting in Him.

5 Every (H)word of God is tested;He is a (I)shield to those who take refuge in Him.

5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

5 Every word of God is pure;(d)(H)He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.(I)

5 Everything God says is pure; he is a shield for those who take refuge in him.

6 Add not to His words, lest He reason with thee, And thou hast been found false.

6 (J)Do not add to His wordsOr He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.

6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

6 Don’t add to His words,(J)or He will rebuke you, and you will be proved a liar.(K)

6 Don't add to his words, or he will rebuke you, and you will be shown to be a liar.

A Prayer

7 Two things I have asked from Thee, Withhold not from me before I die.

7 Two things I asked of You,Do not refuse me before I die:

7 Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:

7 Two things I ask of You;don’t deny them to me before I die:

7 God, I have asked you for two things don't refuse me before I die

8 Vanity and a lying word put far from me, Poverty or wealth give not to me, Cause me to eat the bread of my portion,

8 Keep deception and (c)lies far from me,Give me neither poverty nor riches;Feed me with the (K)food that is my portion,

8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

8 Keep falsehood and deceitful words far from me.Give me neither poverty nor wealth;feed me with the food I need.(L)

8 Keep deception and lies far away from me, and give me neither poverty nor wealth. Feed me with food that I need for today,

9 Lest I become satiated, and have denied, And have said, 'Who is Jehovah?' And lest I be poor, and have stolen, And have laid hold of the name of my God.

9 That I not be (L)full and deny (M)You and say, “Who is the Lord?”Or that I not be (N)in want and steal,And (O)profane the name of my God.

9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

9 Otherwise, I might have too much(M)and deny You,(N) saying, “Who is the Lord?”(O)or I might have nothing and steal,(P)profaning(e) the name of my God.(Q)

9 so that I don't become overfed and deny you by saying, "Who is the LORD?" or so that I don't become poor and steal, and then misuse the name of my God.

18 Three things have been too wonderful for me, Yea, four that I have not known:

18 There are three things which are too wonderful for me,Four which I do not understand:

18 There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:

18 Three things are beyond me;four I can’t understand:

24 Four things are small on the earth,But they are exceedingly wise:

24 Four things on earth are small,yet they are extremely wise:

24 Four things on earth are small, but they are very, very wise:

25 The ants are a people not strong, And they prepare in summer their food,

25 The (AF)ants are not a strong people,But they prepare their food in the summer;

25 The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;

25 Ants aren't a strong species, yet they prepare their food in the summer.

26 Conies are a people not strong, And they place in a rock their house,

26 The (j)(AG)shephanim are not mighty people,Yet they make their houses in the rocks;

26 The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;

26 hyraxes are not a mighty people,yet they make their homes in the cliffs;(AG)

28 a lizard(g) can be caught in your hands,yet it lives in kings’ palaces.

28 Spiders can be caught by the hand, yet they're found in kings' palaces.

Four Things That Move With Dignity

29 Three there are going well, Yea, four are good in going:

29 There are three things which are stately in their march,Even four which are stately when they walk:

29 There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going:

29 Three things are stately in their stride,even four are stately in their walk:

29 Three things are stately in procession, four which are stately in their gait:

30 An old lion -- mighty among beasts, That turneth not back from the face of any,

30 The lion which is (AI)mighty among beastsAnd does not (k)(AJ)retreat before any,

Keep Calm And Quiet

32 If thou hast been foolish in lifting up thyself, And if thou hast devised evil -- hand to mouth!

32 If you have been foolish in exalting yourselfOr if you have plotted evil, (AK)put your hand on your mouth.

32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

32 If you have been foolish by exalting yourselfor if you’ve been scheming,put your hand over your mouth.(AI)

32 If you've foolishly exalted yourself or if you've plotted evil, put your hand over your mouth.

33 For the churning of milk bringeth out butter, And the wringing of the nose bringeth out blood, And the forcing of anger bringeth out strife!

33 For the (m)churning of milk produces butter,And pressing the nose brings forth blood;So the (n)churning of (AL)anger produces strife.

33 Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

33 For the churning of milk produces butter,and twisting a nose draws blood,and stirring up anger produces strife.(AJ)

33 Just as whipping milk produces butter, and twisting the nose causes bleeding, so also stirring up anger produces contention.
