1 Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out its seven pillars.
1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out her seven pillars.
2 She has prepared her meat, she has mixed her wine; she also has arranged her table.
2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.
2 She has prepared her food, she has spiced her wine, and she also has set her dining table.
3 She has sent out her female servants; she calls out on the highest places of the city.
3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,
3 She has sent out her young women, while calling out from the heights of the city,
4 "Whoever is naive, let him turn in here," she says to those who lack understanding.
4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
4 "Let whoever is naive, turn in here." To anyone lacking sense, she says,
5 "Come, eat some of my food, and drink some of the wine I have mixed.
5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
5 "Come! Eat my food, and drink the wine that I have mixed.
6 Abandon your foolish ways so that you may live, and proceed in the way of understanding."
6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
6 Leave inexperience behind, and you will live;pursue the way of understanding.
6 Leave your naive ways, and live. Walk in the path of understanding."
7 Whoever corrects a mocker is asking for insult; whoever reproves a wicked person receives abuse.
7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.
7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites only insult, and whoever rebukes the wicked will himself become stained.
8 Do not reprove a mocker or he will hate you; reprove a wise person and he will love you.
8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
8 Don't rebuke a mocker or he will hate you. Rebuke a wise person, and he will love you.
9 Give instruction to a wise person, and he will become wiser still; teach a righteous person and he will add to his learning.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
9 Counsel a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will add to his learning.
10 The beginning of wisdom is to fear the Lord, and acknowledging the Holy One is understanding.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
10 The fear of the LORD is where wisdom begins, and knowing holiness demonstrates understanding.
11 For because of me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.
11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
11 For by Wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.
11 For because of me you will live a long life, and years will be added to your life.
12 If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage, but if you are a mocker, you alone must bear it.
12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.
12 If you are wise, your wisdom will assist you. If you mock, you alone will be held responsible.
13 The woman called Folly is brash, she is naive and does not know anything.
13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
13 The foolish woman is loud, undisciplined, and without knowledge.
14 So she sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city,
14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
14 She sits by the doorway of her house,on a seat at the highest point of the city,
14 She sits at the entrance of her house, on a seat high above the city.
15 calling out to those who are passing by her in the way, who go straight on their way.
15 Calling to those who pass by,Who are making their paths straight:
15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:
15 She calls out to those passing by on the road, who are minding their own business,
16 "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here," she says to those who lack understanding.
16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
16 “Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!”To the one who lacks sense, she says,
16 "Whoever is naive, turn in here!" And to anyone lacking sense, she says,
17 "Stolen waters are sweet, and food obtained in secret is pleasant!"
17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
17 "Stolen waters are sweet, and food eaten in secret is delicious."
18 But they do not realize that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave.
18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
18 But he does not realize that the dead lurk there, and her invited guests wind up in the depths of Sheol.
