Psalm 109

¹ For the choir director. A Davidic psalm.God of my praise, do not be silent.^(A)

¹ {To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.} Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;

¹ God, whom I praise, do not be silent,

¹ O God of my praise!Do not keep silent,

³ They surround me with hateful wordsand attack me without cause.^(C)

³ They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

³ They have also surrounded me with words of hatred,And fought against me ^(E)without cause.

³ They surround me with hate-filled words, attacking me for no reason.

³ They have also surrounded me with words of hatred,And have fought against me without a cause.

⁵ They repay me evil for good,and hatred for my love.^(E)

⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

⁵ Thus they have ^(c)(H)repaid me evil for goodAnd ^(I)hatred for my love.

⁵ They devise evil against me instead of good, and hatred in place of my love.

⁷ When he is judged, let him be found guilty,and let his prayer be counted as sin.^(G)

⁷ When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.

⁷ When he is judged, let him ^(K)come forth guilty,And let his ^(L)prayer become sin.

⁷ When he is judged, may he be found guilty; may his prayer be regarded as sin.

⁷ When he enters into dispute, let wickedness come about.Let his prayer [for help] result [only] in sin.

¹¹ May creditors seize all his possessions, and may foreigners loot the property he has acquired.

¹⁹ Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

¹⁹ Let it be to him as ^(AI)a garment with which he covers himself,And for a belt with which he constantly ^(AJ)girds himself.

¹⁹ May those curses wrap around him like a garment, or like a belt that one always wears.

¹⁹ Let it be to him as a robe with which he covers himself,And as a sash with which he is constantly bound.

²¹ But You, Yahweh my Lord,deal kindly with me because of Your name;^(V)deliver me because of the goodness of Your faithful love.^(W)

²¹ But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name's sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me.

²¹ But You, O ^(l)God, the Lord, deal kindly with me ^(AM)for Your name’s sake;Because ^(AN)Your lovingkindness is good, deliver me;

²¹ Now you, LORD my God, defend me for your name's sake; because your gracious love is good, deliver me!

²¹ But You, O God, the Lord, show kindness to me, for Your name’s sake;Because Your lovingkindness (faithfulness, compassion) is good, O rescue me;

²³ I fade away like a lengthening shadow;^(Z)I am shaken off like a locust.

²³ I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust.

²³ I am passing ^(AQ)like a shadow when it lengthens;I am shaken off ^(AR)like the locust.

²³ I am fading away like a shadow late in the day; I am shaken off like a locust.

²³ I am vanishing like a shadow when it lengthens and fades;I am shaken off like the locust.

²⁵ I have become an object of ridicule to my accusers;^(g)when they see me, they shake their heads in scorn.^(AB)

²⁵ I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.

²⁵ I also have become a ^(AU)reproach to them;When they see me, they ^(AV)wag their head.

²⁵ I have become an object of derision to them they shake their heads whenever they see me.

²⁵ I also have become a reproach and an object of taunting to others;When they see me, they shake their heads [in derision].^(C)

²⁷ so they may know that this is Your handand that You, Lord, have done it.^(AD)

²⁷ That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it.

^{27 (o)}And let them ^(AX)know that this is Your hand;You, Lord, have done it.

²⁷ Then they will realize that your hand is in this that you, LORD, have accomplished it.

²⁷ And let them know that this is Your hand;You, Lord, have done it.

²⁹ My accusers will be clothed with disgrace;they will wear their shame like a cloak.^(AF)

²⁹ Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.

^{29 (p)}Let ^(BA)my accusers be clothed with dishonor,And ^(q)let them ^(BB)cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.

²⁹ May my accusers be clothed with shame and wrapped in their humiliation as with a robe.

²⁹ Let my attackers be clothed with dishonor,And let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.

³¹ For He stands at the right hand of the needyto save him from those who would condemn him.^(AH)

³¹ For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

³¹ For He stands ^(BD)at the right hand of the needy,To save him from those who ^(BE)judge his soul.
