A Prayer For Jerusalem

1 A Song of Ascents, of David.I was glad when they said to me,“Let us (A)go to the house of the Lord.”

1 {A Song of degrees of David.} I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

1 A Davidic song of ascents.I rejoiced with those who said to me,“Let us go to the house of the Lord.”(A)

1 I rejoiced when they kept on asking me, "Let us go to the LORD's Temple."

1 I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord!

2 Our feet are standingWithin your (B)gates, O Jerusalem,

2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.

2 Our feet are standingwithin your gates, Jerusalem(B)

2 Our feet are standing inside your gates, Jerusalem.

2 Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem! -- "

3 Jerusalem, that is (C)builtAs a city that is (D)compact together;

3 Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:

3 Jerusalem, built as a city should be,solidly joined together,(C)

3 Jerusalem stands built up, a city knitted together.

3 Jerusalem, which is built as a city that is compacted together -- "

4 To which the tribes (E)go up, even the tribes of (a)the Lord(b)An ordinance for Israel—To give thanks to the name of the Lord.

4 Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.

4 where the tribes, Yahweh’s tribes, go upto give thanks to the name of Yahweh.(D)(This is an ordinance for Israel.(E))

4 To it the tribes ascend the tribes of the LORD as decreed to Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD.

4 To which the tribes go up, even the tribes of the Lord, as was decreed and as a testimony for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the Lord.

5 For there (F)thrones were set for judgment,The thrones of the house of David.

5 For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

5 There, thrones for judgment are placed,thrones of the house of David.(F)

5 For thrones are established there for judgment, thrones of the house of David.

5 For there the thrones of judgment were set, the thrones of the house of David.

6 Pray for the (G)peace of Jerusalem:“May they prosper who (H)love you.

6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:“May those who love you prosper;(G)

6 Pray for peace for Jerusalem: "May those who love you be at peace!

6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! May they prosper who love you [the Holy City]!

7 “May peace be within your (I)walls,And prosperity within your (J)palaces.”

7 Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.

7 may there be peace within your walls,prosperity within your fortresses.”(H)

7 May peace be within your ramparts, and prosperity within your fortresses."

7 May peace be within your walls and prosperity within your palaces!

8 For the sake of my (K)brothers and my friends,I will now say, “(L)May peace be within you.”

8 For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.

8 Because of my brothers and friends,I will say, “Peace be with you.”(I)

8 For the sake of my relatives and friends I will now say, "May there be peace within you."

8 For my brethren and companions' sake, I will now say, Peace be within you!

9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,I will (M)seek your good.
