1 {A Psalm of David.} LORD, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee.

1 LORD, I call to you, be quick to listen to me when I cry out!

2 Let my prayer be counted as incense before You;The lifting up of my hands as the evening offering.(A)

2 May my prayer be (a)counted as (C)incense before You;The (D)lifting up of my hands as the (E)evening offering.

2 Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

2 May my prayer be set before You as incense,(B)the raising of my hands as the evening offering.(C)

2 Let my prayer be like incense offered before you, and my uplifted hands like the evening sacrifice.

3 Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;Keep watch over the door of my lips [to keep me from speaking thoughtlessly].

3 Set a (F)guard, O Lord, (b)over my mouth;Keep watch over the (G)door of my lips.

3 Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

3 Lord, set up a guard for my mouth;keep watch at the door of my lips.(D)

4 Do not incline my heart to [consent to or tolerate] any evil thing,Or to practice deeds of wickednessWith men who plan and do evil;And let me not eat of their delicacies (be tempted by their gain).

4 (H)Do not incline my heart to any evil thing,To practice deeds (c)of wickednessWith men who (I)do iniquity;And (J)do not let me eat of their delicacies.

4 Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.

4 Do not let my heart turn to any evil thingor perform wicked actswith men who commit sin.Do not let me feast on their delicacies.(E)

4 Don't let my heart turn toward evil or involve itself in wicked activities with men who practice iniquity. Let me not feast on their delicacies.

5 Let the righteous [thoughtfully] strike (correct) me—it is a kindness [done to encourage my spiritual maturity].It is [the choicest anointing] oil on the head;Let my head not refuse [to accept and acknowledge and learn from] it;For still my prayer is against their wicked deeds.(B)

5 Let the (K)righteous smite me (d)in kindness and reprove me;It is (L)oil upon the head;Do not let my head refuse it,(e)For still my prayer (M)is (f)against their wicked deeds.

5 Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.

5 Let the righteous one strike me—it is an act of faithful love;let him rebuke me—it is oil for my head;let me(a) not refuse it.(F)Even now my prayer is againstthe evil acts of the wicked.(b)(G)

5 Let one who is righteous strike me; It is an act of gracious love. Let him rebuke me, because it is oil for my head; do not let my head refuse it. My prayers continuously will be against their wicked activities.

6 Their [wicked, godless] judges are thrown down the sides of the rocky cliff,And they [who followed them] will hear my words, for they are pleasant (just).

6 Their judges are (N)thrown down by the sides of the rock,And they hear my words, for they are pleasant.

6 When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.

6 When their rulers(c) will be thrown offthe sides of a cliff,the people(d) will listen to my words,for they are pleasing.(H)

6 When their judges are thrown off the cliff, the people will hear my words, for they are appropriate.

7 As when the one plows and breaks open the ground [and the soil scatters behind him],Our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol [by the injustices of the wicked].(C)

7 As when one (O)plows and breaks open the earth,Our (P)bones have been scattered at the (Q)mouth of (g)Sheol.

7 Our bones are scattered at the grave's mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth wood upon the earth.

7 As when one plows and breaks up the soil,turning up rocks,so our(e) bones have been scatteredat the mouth of Sheol.(I)

7 Just as one plows and breaks up the earth, our bones are scattered near the entrance to the place of the dead.

8 For my eyes are toward You, O God, the Lord;In You I take refuge; do not pour out my life nor leave me defenseless.

8 For my (R)eyes are toward You, O (h)God, the Lord;In You I (S)take refuge; (T)do not (i)leave me defenseless.

8 But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.

8 But my eyes look to You, Lord God.I seek refuge in You; do not let me die.(f)(J)

8 Nevertheless, my eyes are on you, Lord GOD, as I seek protection in you. Don't leave me defenseless!

9 Keep me from the jaws of the trap which they have set for me,And from the snares of those who do evil.

9 Keep me from the (j)(U)jaws of the trap which they have set for me,And from the (V)snares of those who do iniquity.

9 Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity.

9 Protect me from(g) the trap they have set for me,and from the snares of evildoers.(K)

10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets,While I pass by and safely escape [from danger].
