1 A Prayer of David.Hear a (A)just cause, O Lord, (B)give heed to my cry;(C)Give ear to my prayer, which is not from (D)deceitful lips.

1 {A Prayer of David.} Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.

1 A Davidic prayer.Lord, hear a just cause;(A)pay attention to my cry;listen to my prayer—from lips free of deceit.(B)

1 LORD, hear my just plea! Pay attention to my cry! Listen to my prayer, since it does not come from lying lips.

1 Hear the just (righteous) cause, O Lord; listen to my loud [piercing] cry;Listen to my prayer, that comes from guileless lips.

2 Let (E)my (a)judgment come forth from Your presence;Let Your eyes look with (F)equity.

2 Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.

2 Let my vindication come from You,for You see what is right.(C)

2 Justice for me will come from your presence; your eyes see what is right.

2 Let my verdict of vindication come from Your presence;May Your eyes look with equity and behold things that are just.

3 You have (G)tried my heart; You have visited me by night; You have (H)tested me and (I)You find (b)nothing;I have (J)purposed that my mouth will not transgress.

3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

3 You have tested my heart;(D)You have examined me at night. You have tried me and found nothing evil;(E)I have determined that my mouth will not sin.(a)

3 When you probe my heart, and examine me at night; when you refine me, you will find nothing wrong, for I have determined that I will not transgress with my mouth.

3 You have tried my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tested me and You find nothing [evil in me];I intend that my mouth will not transgress.

4 As for the deeds of men, (K)by the word of Your lipsI have kept from the (L)paths of the violent.

4 Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.

4 Concerning what people do:by the word of Your lips(b)I have avoided the ways of the violent.(F)

4 As for the ways of mankind, I have, according to the words of your lips, avoided the ways of the violent.

4 Concerning the deeds of men, by the word of Your lipsI have kept away from the paths of the violent.

5 My (M)steps have held fast to Your (c)paths. My (N)feet have not slipped.

5 Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not.

5 My steps are on Your paths;my feet have not slipped.(G)

5 Because my steps have held fast to your paths, my footsteps have not faltered.

5 My steps have held closely to Your paths; My feet have not staggered.

6 I have (O)called upon You, for You will answer me, O God;(P)Incline Your ear to me, hear my speech.

6 I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.

6 I call on You, God,because You will answer me;(H)listen closely to me; hear what I say.

6 I call upon you, for you will answer me, God. Listen closely to me and hear my prayer.

6 I have called upon You, for You, O God, will answer me;Incline Your ear to me, hear my speech.

7 (Q)Wondrously show Your lovingkindness,O (R)Savior of those who take refuge (d)at Your right handFrom those who rise up against them.

7 Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.

7 Display the wonders of Your faithful love,(I)Savior of all who seek refuge(J)from those who rebel against Your right hand.(c)

7 Show forth your gracious love, save those who take refuge in you from those who rebel against your sovereign power.

7 Wondrously show Your [marvelous and amazing] lovingkindness,O Savior of those who take refuge at Your right handFrom those who rise up against them.

8 Keep me as (e)the (S)apple of the eye;Hide me (T)in the shadow of Your wings

8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

8 Protect me as the pupil of Your eye;(K)hide me in the shadow of Your wings(L)

8 Protect me as the most precious part of the eye; hide me under the shadow of your wings

8 Keep me [in Your affectionate care, protect me] as the (a)apple of Your eye;Hide me in the [protective] shadow of Your wings

9 From the (U)wicked who despoil me,My (V)deadly enemies who surround me.

9 From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.

9 from(d) the wicked who treat me violently,(e)my deadly enemies who surround me.(M)

9 from the wicked who have afflicted me, from my enemies who have surrounded me.

9 From the wicked who despoil and deal violently with me,My deadly enemies who surround me.

10 They have (W)closed their (f)unfeeling heart,With their mouth they (X)speak proudly.

10 They are inclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly.

10 They have become hardened;(f)(N)their mouths speak arrogantly.(O)

10 They are imprisoned by their own prosperity, they have boasted proudly with their mouth.

10 They have closed their (b)unfeeling heart [to kindness and compassion];With their mouths they speak proudly and make presumptuous claims.

11 They have now (Y)surrounded us in our steps; They set their eyes (Z)to cast us down to the ground.

11 They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth;

11 They advance against me;(g) now they surround me.(P)They are determined(h)to throw me to the ground.(Q)

11 Now they have encircled our paths and are determined to cast us down to the ground.

11 They track us down and have now surrounded us in our steps; They set their eyes to force us to the ground,

12 He is (AA)like a lion that is eager to tear,And as a young lion (AB)lurking in hiding places.

12 Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

12 They are(i) like a lion eager to tear, like a young lion lurking in ambush.(R)

12 Like a lion they desire to rip us to pieces, like a young lion waiting in ambush.

12 He is like a lion eager to tear [his prey],And like a young lion lurking in hiding places.

13 (AC)Arise, O Lord, confront him, (AD)bring him low;(AE)Deliver my soul from the wicked with (AF)Your sword,

13 Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword:

13 Rise up, Lord!Confront him; bring him down.(S)With Your sword, save me from the wicked.(T)

13 Arise, LORD, confront them, bring them to their knees! Deliver me from the wicked by your sword

13 Arise, O Lord, confront him, cast him down;Save my soul from the wicked with Your sword,

14 From men with (AG)Your hand, O Lord,From men (g)of the world, (AH)whose portion is in this life,And whose belly You (AI)fill with Your treasure; They are satisfied with children,And leave their abundance to their babes.

14 From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

14 With Your hand, Lord, save me from men, from men of the worldwhose portion is in this life:You fill their bellies with what You have in store;their sons are satisfied, and they leave their surplus to their children.(U)

14 from men, LORD, by your hand from men who belong to this world, whose reward is only in this life. But as for your treasured ones, may their stomachs be full, may their children have an abundance, and may they leave wealth to their offspring.

14 From men with Your hand, O Lord,From men of the world [these moths of the night] whose portion [of enjoyment] is in this life—idle and vain,And whose belly You fill with Your treasure; They are satisfied with children,And they leave what they have left [of wealth] to their children.

15 As for me, I shall (AJ)behold Your face in righteousness;(AK)I will be satisfied (h)with Your (AL)likeness when I awake.

15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

15 But I will see Your face in righteousness;(V)when I awake, I will be satisfied with Your presence.(j)(W)

15 But as for me, justified, I will behold your face; when I awake, your presence will satisfy me. To the Director: By the servant of the LORD, David, who spoke the words of this song to the LORD on the day when the LORD delivered him from the hands of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.

15 As for me, I shall see Your face in righteousness;I will be [fully] satisfied when I awake [to find myself] seeing Your likeness.
