Instruction In Wisdom

1 Do not be angry because of the wrongdoers, or have envy of the workers of evil.

1 {A Psalm of David.} Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

1 Don't be angry because of those who do evil, do not be jealous because of those who commit iniquity.

2 For they will quickly be cut down like grass, and become dry like the green plants.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

2 For they will (C)wither quickly like the grassAnd (D)fade like the green herb.

2 For they wither quickly like grassand wilt like tender green plants.(B)

2 Indeed, they soon will wither like grass, and like green herbs they will fade away.

3 Have faith in the Lord, and do good; be at rest in the land, and go after righteousness.

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

7 Take your rest in the Lord, waiting quietly for him; do not be angry because of the man who does well in his evil ways, and gives effect to his bad designs.

7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

8 Put an end to your wrath and be no longer bitter; do not give way to angry feeling which is a cause of sin.

8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

8 Refrain from anger and give up your rage;do not be agitated—it can only bring harm.(J)

8 Calm your anger and abandon wrath. Don't be angry it only leads to evil.

9 For the evil-doers will be cut off: but those who have faith in the Lord will have the earth for their heritage.

9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

9 For (Q)evildoers will be cut off,But those who wait for the Lord, they will (R)inherit the land.

9 For evildoers will be destroyed,but those who put their hope in the Lordwill inherit the land.(c)(K)

9 Those who do evil will perish. But those who wait on the LORD will inherit the land.

10 For in a short time the evil-doer will be gone: you will go searching for his place, and it will not be there.

10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

10 Yet (S)a little while and the wicked man will be no more;And you will look carefully for (T)his place and he will not be there.

10 A little while, and the wicked person will be no more;though you look for him, he will not be there.(L)

10 Yet a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more. You will search for his place, but he will not be there.

11 But the gentle will have the earth for their heritage; they will take their delight in peace without measure.

11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

11 But (U)the humble will inherit the landAnd will delight themselves in (V)abundant prosperity.

12 The sinner has evil designs against the upright, lifting up the voice of wrath against him.

12 The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

12 The wicked person schemes against the righteousand gnashes his teeth at him.(O)

12 The wicked person plots against the righteous, and grinds his teeth at him.

13 He will be laughed at by the Lord, who sees that his day is coming.

13 The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.

13 But the Lord laughs at him because he sees that his day is coming!

14 The evil-doers have taken out their swords, their bows are bent; for crushing the poor, and to put to death those who are upright in their ways.

14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

15 But their swords will be turned into their hearts, and their bows will be broken.

16 The little which the good man has is better than the wealth of evil-doers.

18 The days of the upright are numbered by the Lord, and their heritage will be for ever.

18 The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.

18 The Lord watches over the blameless all their days,and their inheritance will last forever.(W)

19 They will not be shamed in the evil time, and in the days when all are in need of food they will have enough.

19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

19 They will not be disgraced in times of adversity;they will be satisfied in days of hunger.(X)

19 They will not experience shame in times of trouble; in times of famine they will have plenty.

20 But the wrongdoers will come to destruction, and the haters of the Lord will be like the fat of lambs, they will be burned up; they will go up in smoke, and never again be seen.

20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

20 But the (AK)wicked will perish;And the enemies of the Lord will be like the (e)glory of the pastures,They vanish—(AL)like smoke they vanish away.

20 But the wicked will perish;the Lord’s enemies, like the glory of the pastures,will fade away—they will fade away like smoke.(Y)

20 Indeed, the wicked will perish. The LORD's enemies will be consumed like flowers in the fields. They will vanish like smoke.

21 The sinner takes money and does not give it back; but the upright man has mercy, and gives to others.

21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.

21 The wicked borrows and does not pay back,But the righteous (AM)is gracious and gives.

21 The wicked man borrows and does not repay,but the righteous one is gracious and giving.(Z)

21 The wicked borrow but never pay back; but the righteous are generous and give.

22 Those who have his blessing will have the earth for their heritage; but those who are cursed by him will be cut off.

22 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.

22 For (AN)those blessed by Him will (AO)inherit the land,But those (AP)cursed by Him will be cut off.

22 Those who are blessed by Him will inherit the land,(g)but those cursed by Him will be destroyed.(AA)

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and he takes delight in his way.

25 I have been young, and now am old, but I have not seen the good man without help, or his children looking for bread.

25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

26 All the day he is ready to have mercy and to give; his children are a blessing.

26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

27 Be turned from evil, and do good; and your place will be for ever.

28 Indeed, the LORD loves justice, and he will not abandon his godly ones. They are kept safe forever, but the lawless will be chased away, and the descendants of the wicked will be cut off.

29 The upright will have the earth for their heritage, and will go on living there for ever.

29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

34 Be waiting for the Lord, and keep his way; and you will be lifted up, and have the land for your heritage: when the evil-doers are cut off, you will see it.

34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

35 I have seen the evil-doer in great power, covering the earth like a great tree.

35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

35 I once observed a wicked and oppressive person, flourishing like a green tree in native soil.

36 But he came to an end, and there was no sign of him; I made a search for him and he was not there.

36 Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

37 Give attention to the good man, and take note of the upright; because the end of that man is peace.

37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

38 But as for the sinners, they will be cut off together; the end of the wrongdoers is destruction.
