Prayer Of A Suffering Sinner

1 ([Psalm of David]) O Jehovah, do not correct me or discipline me in your burning anger.

1 {A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.} O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

1 A Psalm of David, for a memorial.O Lord, (A)rebuke me not in Your wrath,And chasten me not in Your burning anger.

1 A Davidic psalm for remembrance.(A)Lord, do not punish me in Your angeror discipline me in Your wrath.(B)

1 LORD! Do not rebuke me in your anger; do not correct me in your wrath,

2 Your arrows have struck me. Your hand has struck me hard.

2 For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

2 For Your (B)arrows have sunk deep into me,And (C)Your hand has pressed down on me.

2 For Your arrows have sunk into me,and Your hand has pressed down on me.(C)

2 because your arrows have sunk deep into me, and your hand has come down hard on me.

3 No healthy spot is left on my body because of your rage. There is no peace in my bones because of my sin.

3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

3 There is (D)no soundness in my flesh (E)because of Your indignation; There is no health (F)in my bones because of my sin.

3 There is no health in my bodybecause of Your indignation;there is no strength(a) in my bonesbecause of my sin.(D)

3 My body is unhealthy due to your anger, and my bones have no rest due to my sin.

4 My guilt has overwhelmed me. Like a heavy load, it is more than I can bear.

4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

4 For my (G)iniquities are gone over my head;As a heavy burden they weigh too much for me.

4 For my sins have flooded over my head;they are a burden too heavy for me to bear.(E)

4 My iniquities loom over my head; like a cumbersome burden, they are too heavy for me.

5 My wounds smell rotten. They fester because of my stupidity.

5 My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

5 My (a)wounds grow foul and festerBecause of (H)my folly.

5 My wounds are foul and festeringbecause of my foolishness.(F)

5 My wounds have putrefied and festered because of my foolishness.

6 I am bent over and bowed down very low. All day I walk around in sadness.

6 I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

6 I am bent over and (I)greatly bowed down;I (J)go mourning all day long.

6 I am bent over and brought low;all day long I go around in mourning.(G)

6 I am bent over and walk about greatly bowed down; all day long I go around mourning.

7 My insides are filled with burning pain, and no healthy spot is left on my body.

7 For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.

7 For my loins are filled with (K)burning,And there is (L)no soundness in my flesh.

7 For my loins are full of burning pain, and there is no health in my body.(H)

7 My insides are burning and my body is unhealthy.

8 I am numb and completely devastated. I roar because my heart is filling with anguish.

8 I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

8 I am (M)benumbed and (b)badly crushed;I (c)(N)groan because of the (d)agitation of my heart.

8 I am faint and severely crushed;I groan because of the anguish of my heart.(I)

8 I am weak and utterly crushed; I cry out in distress because of my heart's anguish.

9 You know all my desires, O Jehovah. My groaning has not been hidden from you.

9 Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

9 Lord, all (O)my desire is (e)before You;And my (P)sighing is not hidden from You.

9 Lord, my every desire is known to(b) You;my sighing is not hidden from You.(J)

9 Lord, all my longings are before you, and my groaning is not hidden from you.

10 My heart pounds. I have lost my strength. In my blindness the light of my eyes has left me.

10 My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

10 My heart throbs, (Q)my strength fails me;And the (R)light of my eyes, even (f)that (g)has gone from me.

10 My heart races, my strength leaves me,and even the light of my eyes has faded.(c)(K)

10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me, even the gleam in my eye is gone.

11 My loved ones and my friends keep their distance and my relatives stand far away because of my sickness.

11 My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

11 My (h)(S)loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague; And my kinsmen (T)stand afar off.

11 My loved ones and friends stand back from my affliction, and my relatives stand at a distance.(L)

11 As for my friends and my neighbors, they stand aloof from my distress; even my close relatives stand at a distance.

12 Those who seek my life lay traps for me. Those who are out to harm me talk about ruining me. All day long they think of ways to deceive me.

12 They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

12 Those who (U)seek my life (V)lay snares for me;And those who (W)seek to injure me have (i)threatened destruction,And they (X)devise treachery all day long.

12 Those who seek my life set traps, and those who want to harm me threaten to destroy me;they plot treachery all day long.(M)

12 Those who seek my life lay snares for me; those who seek to do me harm brag all day long about their wicked planning.

13 But I am like some one deaf and speechless.

13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

13 But I, like a deaf man, do not hear; And I am like a (Y)mute man who does not open his mouth.

13 I am like a deaf person; I do not hear.I am like a speechless personwho does not open his mouth.(N)

13 I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, and like the mute, who cannot open his mouth.

14 I am like one who cannot hear and who can offer no arguments.

14 Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

14 Yes, I am like a man who does not hear,And in whose mouth are no arguments.

14 I am like a man who does not hearand has no arguments in his mouth.(O)

14 Indeed, I have become like a man who hears nothing, and in whose mouth there is no rebuke.

15 I wait with hope for you, O Jehovah. You will answer, O Jehovah, my God.

15 For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

15 For (Z)I (j)hope in You, O Lord;You (AA)will answer, O Lord my God.

15 I put my hope in You, Lord; You will answer, Lord my God.(P)

15 Because I have placed my hope in you, LORD, you will answer, Lord, my God.

16 I said: Do not let them gloat over me. When my foot slips, do not let them promote themselves at my expense.

16 For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

16 For I said, “May they not rejoice over me,Who, when my foot slips, (AB)would magnify themselves against me.”

16 For I said, “Don’t let them rejoice over me—those who are arrogant toward me when I stumble.”(Q)

16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat over me, as they congratulate themselves when my foot slips."

17 I am ready to fall. I feel pain continually.

17 For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

17 For I am (AC)ready to fall,And (AD)my (k)sorrow is continually before me.

17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is constantly with me.(R)

17 Indeed, I am being set up for a fall, and I am continuously reminded of my pain.

18 I confess my guilt. My sin troubles me.

18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

18 For I (l)(AE)confess my iniquity;I am full of (AF)anxiety because of my sin.

18 So I confess my guilt;I am anxious because of my sin.(S)

18 I confess my iniquity, and my sin troubles me.

19 My mortal enemies are growing stronger. Many hate me for no reason.

19 But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

19 But my (AG)enemies are vigorous and (m)strong,And many are those who (AH)hate me wrongfully.

19 But my enemies are vigorous and powerful;(d)many hate me for no reason.(T)

19 But my enemies are alive and well; those who hate me for no reason are numerous.

20 They pay me back with evil instead of good, and they accuse me because I try to do what is good.

20 They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.

20 And those who (AI)repay evil for good,They (AJ)oppose me, because I follow what is good.

20 Those who repay evil for goodattack me for pursuing good.(U)

20 They reward my good with evil, opposing me because I seek to do good.

21 Do not abandon me, O Jehovah. O my God, do not be so distant from me.

21 Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.

21 Do not forsake me, O Lord;O my God, (AK)do not be far from me!

21 Lord, do not abandon me;my God, do not be far from me.(V)

21 Don't forsake me, LORD. My God, do not be so distant from me.

22 Come quickly to help me, Jehovah my salvation.

22 Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

22 Make (AL)haste to help me,O Lord, (AM)my salvation!

22 Hurry to help me,Lord, my Savior.(W)

22 Come quickly and help me, Lord, my deliverer. To the Director: To Jeduthun. A Davidic Psalm.
