God As Judge

1 {A Psalm of Asaph.} The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.

1 God, the LORD, has spoken. He has summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting place.

1 The mighty One, God, the Lord, has spoken,And summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting [from east to west].

2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.

2 Out of Zion, (C)the perfection of beauty,God (D)has shone forth.

3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.

3 Our God is coming; He will not be silent!Devouring fire precedes Him,and a storm rages around Him.(D)

3 Our God has appeared and he has not been silent; a devouring fire blazed before him, and a mighty storm swirled around him.

3 May our God come and not keep silent;Fire devours before Him,And around Him a mighty tempest rages.

4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.

5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.

5 "Assemble before me, my saints, who have entered into my covenant by sacrifice."

7 Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.

8 I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.

8 “I do (P)not reprove you for your sacrifices,And your burnt offerings are continually before Me.

8 I do not rebuke you for your sacrificesor for your burnt offerings,which are continually before Me.(J)

8 I do not rebuke you because of your sacrifices; indeed, your burnt offerings are continuously before me.

9 I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.

9 “I shall take no (Q)young bull out of your houseNor male goats out of your folds.

9 I will not accept a bull from your householdor male goats from your pens,(K)

9 I will no longer accept a sacrificial bull from your household; nor goats from your pens.

9 “I will accept no young bull from your houseNor male goat from your folds.

10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.

10 “For (R)every beast of the forest is Mine,The cattle on a thousand hills.

10 for every animal of the forest is Mine,the cattle on a thousand hills.

10 Indeed, every animal of the forest is mine, even the cattle on a thousand hills.

10 “For every beast of the forest is Mine,And the cattle on a thousand hills.

11 I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.

11 “I know every (S)bird of the mountains,And everything that moves in the field is (d)Mine.

11 I know all the birds in the mountains; indeed, everything that moves in the field is mine.

12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.

13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?

13 Why should I eat the flesh of oxen or drink the blood of goats?

14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:

14 “Offer to God (V)a sacrifice of thanksgivingAnd (W)pay your vows to the Most High;

14 Sacrifice a thank offering to God,(O)and pay your vows to the Most High.(P)

14 Offer to God a thanksgiving praise; pay your vows to the Most High.

14 “Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgivingAnd pay your vows to the Most High;

15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

15 (X)Call upon Me in the day of trouble;I shall (Y)rescue you, and you will (Z)honor Me.”

16 But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?

16 But to the wicked God says,“What right have you to tell of My statutesAnd to take (AA)My covenant in your mouth?

16 But God says to the wicked:“What right do you have to recite My statutesand to take My covenant on your lips?(R)

16 As for the wicked, God says, "How dare you recite my statutes or speak about my covenant with your lips!

16 But to the wicked God says:“What right have you to recite My statutesOr to take My covenant on your lips?

17 Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.

17 “For you (AB)hate discipline,And you (AC)cast My words behind you.

17 You hate instructionand turn your back on My words.(e)(S)

17 You hate instruction and toss my words behind you.

17 “For you hate instruction and disciplineAnd cast My words behind you [discarding them].

18 When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.

18 “When you see a thief, you (g)(AD)are pleased with him,And (h)you (AE)associate with adulterers.

18 When you see a thief,you make friends with him,and you associate with adulterers.(T)

18 When you see a thief, you befriend him, and you keep company with adulterers.

18 “When you see a thief, you are pleased with him and condone his behavior,And you associate with adulterers.

19 Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.

19 “You (i)(AF)let your mouth loose in evilAnd your (AG)tongue frames deceit.

19 You unleash your mouth for eviland harness your tongue for deceit.(U)

19 You give your mouth free reign for evil, and your tongue devises deceit.

19 “You give your mouth to evilAnd your tongue frames deceit.

20 Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son.

20 “You sit and (AH)speak against your brother;You slander your own mother’s son.

20 You sit, maligning your brother,slandering your mother’s son.(V)

20 You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son.

20 “You sit and speak against your brother;You slander your own mother’s son.

21 These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.

21 “These things you have done and (AI)I kept silence;You thought that I was just like you;I will (AJ)reprove you and state the case in order before your eyes.

21 You have done these things, and I kept silent;you thought I was just like you.(W)But I will rebuke youand lay out the case before you.(f)(X)

21 These things you did, and I kept silent, because you assumed that I was like you. But now I am going to rebuke you, and I will set forth my case before your very own eyes."

21 “These things you have done and I kept silent;You thought that I was just like you.Now I will reprimand and denounce you and state the case in order before your eyes.

22 Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

22 “Now consider this, you who (AK)forget God,Or I will (AL)tear you in pieces, and there will be none to deliver.

22 “Understand this, you who forget God,or I will tear you apart,and there will be no one to rescue you.(Y)

22 Consider this, you who have forgotten God Otherwise, I will tear you in pieces and there will be no deliverer:

22 “Now consider this, you who forget God,Or I will tear you in pieces, and there will be no one to rescue [you].

23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

23 “He who (AM)offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me;And to him who (j)(AN)orders his way arightI shall (AO)show the salvation of God.”

23 Whoever sacrifices a thank offering honors Me,and whoever orders his conduct,I will show him the salvation of God.”(Z)

23 Whoever offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifies me, and I will reveal the salvation of God to whomever continues in my way." To the Director: A Davidic Psalm. When the prophet Nathan came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

23 “He who offers a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving honors Me;And to him who orders his way rightly [who follows the way that I show him],I shall show the salvation of God.”
