Do Not Pass Judgment On One Another

1 As for the (a)one whose faith is weak, accept him [into your fellowship], but not for [the purpose of] quarreling over his opinions.

1 Now (A)accept the one who is (B)weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions.

1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.

1 Accept(A) anyone who is weak in faith,(a)(B) but don’t argue about doubtful issues.

1 Accept anyone who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of arguing over differences of opinion.

2 One man’s faith permits him to eat everything, while the weak believer eats only vegetables [to avoid eating ritually unclean meat or something previously considered unclean].

2 (C)One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is (D)weak eats vegetables only.

2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.

2 One person believes he may eat anything,(C) but one who is weak eats only vegetables.

2 One person believes that he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables.

3 The one who eats [everything] is not to look down on the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat must not criticize or pass judgment on the one who eats [everything], for God has accepted him.

3 The one who eats is not to (E)regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to (F)judge the one who eats, for God has (G)accepted him.

3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.

3 One who eats must not look down on one who does not eat,(D) and one who does not eat must not criticize one who does,(E) because God has accepted him.(F)

3 The person who eats any kind of food must not ridicule the person who does not eat them, and the person who does not eat certain foods must not criticize the person who eats them, for God has accepted him.

4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? Before his own master he stands [approved] or falls [out of favor]. And he [who serves the Master—the Lord] will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

4 (H)Who are you to judge the (a)servant of another? To his own (b)master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

4 Who are you to criticize(G) another’s household slave? Before his own Lord he stands or falls. And he will stand. For the Lord is able(b) to make him stand.

4 Who are you to criticize someone else's servant? He stands or falls before his own Lord and stand he will, because the Lord makes him stand.

5 One person regards one day as better [or more important] than another, while another regards every day [the same as any other]. Let everyone be fully convinced (assured, satisfied) in his own mind.

5 (I)One person (c)regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be (J)fully convinced in his own mind.

5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

5 One person considers one day to be above another day.(H) Someone else considers every day to be the same. Each one must be fully convinced in his own mind.(I)

5 One person decides in favor of one day over another, while another person decides that all days are the same. Let each one be fully convinced in his own mind:

6 He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord. He who eats, eats for the Lord, since he gives thanks to God; while he who abstains, abstains for the Lord and gives thanks to God.

6 He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, (d)does so for the Lord, for he (K)gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God.

6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

6 Whoever observes the day, observes it for the honor of the Lord.(c) Whoever eats, eats for the Lord, since he gives thanks to God;(J) and whoever does not eat, it is for the Lord that he does not eat it, yet he thanks God.

6 The one who observes a special day, observes it to honor the Lord. The one who eats, eats to honor the Lord, since he gives thanks to God. And the one who does not eat, refrains from eating to honor the Lord; yet he, too, gives thanks to God.

7 None of us lives for himself [for his own benefit, but for the Lord], and none of us dies for himself [but for the Lord].

7 For not one of us (L)lives for himself, and not one dies for himself;

7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.

7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself.(K)

7 For none of us lives for himself, and no one dies for himself.

8 If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. So then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

8 for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore (M)whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.(L)

8 If we live, we live to honor the Lord; and if we die, we die to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

9 For Christ died and lived again for this reason, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

9 For to this end (N)Christ died and lived again, that He might be (O)Lord both of the dead and of the living.

9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

9 Christ died and came to life(M) for this: that He might rule over both the dead and the living.(N)

9 For this reason the Messiah died and returned to life, so that he might become the Lord of both the dead and the living.

10 But you, why do you criticize your brother? Or you again, why do you look down on your [believing] brother or regard him with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God [who alone is judge].

10 But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you (P)regard your brother with contempt? For (Q)we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.

10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

10 But you, why do you criticize your brother? Or you, why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before the tribunal of God.(d)(O)

10 Why, then, do you criticize your brother? Or why do you despise your brother? For all of us will stand before the judgment seat of God.

11 For it is written [in Scripture],As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me,And every tongue shall give praise to God.”(A)

11 For it is written,(R)As I live, says the Lord, (S)every knee shall bow to Me,And every tongue shall (e)give praise to God.”

11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

11 For it is written:As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to Me,(P)and every tongue will give praise to God.(Q)(e)

11 For it is written, "As certainly as I live, declares the Lord, every knee will bow to me, and every tongue will praise God."

12 So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

12 So then (T)each one of us will give an account of himself to God.

12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

12 So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.(R)

12 Consequently, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

The Law Of Love

13 Then let us not criticize one another anymore, but rather determine this—not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block or a source of temptation in another believer’s way.

13 Therefore let us not (U)judge one another anymore, but rather determine this—(V)not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother’s way.

13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

13 Therefore, let us no longer criticize one another.(S) Instead decide never to put a stumbling block or pitfall in your brother’s way.(T)

13 Therefore, let's no longer criticize each other. Instead, make up your mind not to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.

14 I know and am convinced [as one] in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean [ritually defiled, and unholy] in itself; but [nonetheless] it is unclean to anyone who thinks it is unclean.

14 I know and am convinced (f)in the Lord Jesus that (W)nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who (X)thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

14 (I know and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself.(U) Still, to someone who considers a thing to be unclean, to that one it is unclean.(V))

14 I know and have been persuaded by the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in and of itself, but it is unclean to a person who thinks it is unclean.

15 If your brother is being hurt or offended because of food [that you insist on eating], you are no longer walking in love [toward him]. Do not let what you eat destroy and spiritually harm one for whom Christ died.

15 For if because of food your brother is hurt, you are no longer (Y)walking according to love. (Z)Do not destroy with your food him for whom Christ died.

15 But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.

15 For if your brother is hurt by what you eat, you are no longer walking according to love.(W) Do not destroy that one Christ died for by what you eat.(X)

15 For if your brother is being hurt by what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not destroy the person for whom the Messiah died by what you eat.

16 Therefore do not let what is a good thing for you [because of your freedom to choose] be spoken of as evil [by someone else];

16 Therefore (AA)do not let what is for you a good thing be (g)spoken of as evil;

16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of:

16 Therefore, do not let your good be slandered,(Y)

16 Do not allow what seems good to you to be spoken of as evil.

17 for the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking [what one likes], but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

17 for the kingdom of God (AB)is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and (AC)peace and (AD)joy in the Holy Spirit.

17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking,(Z) but righteousness, peace, and joy(AA) in the Holy Spirit.

17 For God's kingdom does not consist of food and drink, but of righteousness, peace, and joy produced by the Holy Spirit.

18 For the one who serves Christ in this way [recognizing that food choice is secondary] is acceptable to God and is approved by men.

18 For he who in this way (AE)serves Christ is (AF)acceptable to God and approved by men.

18 For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.

18 Whoever serves Christ(AB) in this way is acceptable to God and approved by men.(AC)

18 For the person who serves the Messiah in this way is pleasing to God and approved by people.

19 So then, let us pursue [with enthusiasm] the things which make for peace and the building up of one another [things which lead to spiritual growth].

19 So then (h)we (AG)pursue the things which make for peace and the (AH)building up of one another.

19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

19 So then, we must pursue what promotes peace(AD) and what builds up one another.(AE)

19 Therefore, let's keep on pursuing those things that bring peace and that lead to building up one another.

20 Do not, for the sake of food, tear down the work of God. All things indeed are [ceremonially] clean, but they are wrong for the person who eats and offends [another’s conscience in the process].

20 (AI)Do not tear down the work of God for the sake of food. (AJ)All things indeed are clean, but (AK)they are evil for the man who eats (i)and gives offense.

20 For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.

20 Do not tear down God’s work because of food. Everything is clean, but it is wrong for a man to cause stumbling by what he eats.(AF)

20 Do not destroy God's action for the sake of food. Everything is clean, but it is wrong to make another person stumble because of what you eat.

21 It is good [to do the right thing and] not eat meat or drink wine, or do anything that offends your brother and weakens him spiritually.

21 (AL)It is good not to eat meat or to drink wine, or to do anything by which your brother stumbles.

21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

21 It is a noble thing not to eat meat, or drink wine, or do anything that makes your brother stumble.(f)

21 The right thing to do is to avoid eating meat, drinking wine, or doing anything else that makes your brother stumble, upset, or weak.

22 The faith which you have [that gives you freedom of choice], have as your own conviction before God [just keep it between yourself and God, seeking His will]. Happy is he who has no reason to condemn himself for what he approves.

22 The faith which you have, have (j)as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who (AM)does not condemn himself in what he approves.

22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

22 Do you have a conviction?(g) Keep it to yourself before God. The man who does not condemn himself by what he approves is blessed.(AG)

22 As for the faith you do have, have it as your own conviction before God. How blessed is the person who has no reason to condemn himself because of what he approves!

23 But he who is uncertain [about eating a particular thing] is condemned if he eats, because he is not acting from faith. Whatever is not from faith is sin [whatever is done with doubt is sinful].

23 But (AN)he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin.

23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

23 But whoever doubts stands condemned if he eats,(AH) because his eating is not from a conviction,(h) and everything that is not from a conviction(i) is sin.

23 But the person who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not act in faith; and anything that is not done in faith is sin.
