“Because this people draw near with their words
And honor Me with their lip service,
But they remove their hearts far from Me,
And their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote,

‘But in vain do they worship Me,
Teaching as

doctrines the precepts of men

.’”

(which all refer to things destined to perish with use)—in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men?

Turn

But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless

elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again?

and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.

It has happened to them according to the true proverb, “A dog returns to its own vomit,” and, “A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire.”
