Greeting

1 Paul a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God's elect and for their knowledge of the Truth that goes with a religious life,

1 Paul, (A)a bond-servant of God and an (B)apostle of Jesus Christ, (a)for the faith of those (C)chosen of God and (D)the knowledge of the truth which is (E)according to godliness,

1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

1 From: Paul, a servant of God, and also an apostle of Jesus the Messiah, to bring the faith to those chosen by God, along with full knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness,

2 serving in hope of the life eternal which God, who never lies, promised ages ago ??3 he gave effect to his word in due time by a proclamation with which I have been entrusted by command of God our Saviour: ??4 to Titus my lawful son in a faith we hold in common; grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour.

2 in (F)the hope of eternal life, which God, (G)who cannot lie, (H)promised (b)(I)long ages ago,

2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

2 in the hope of eternal life(F) that God, who cannot lie,(G) promised before time began.(H)

2 which is based on the hope of eternal life that God, who cannot lie, promised before the world began.

Instructions To Titus In Crete

3 I left you behind in Crete in order to finish putting things right and to appoint presbyters in every town as I told you,

3 but (J)at the proper time manifested, even His word, in (K)the proclamation (L)with which I was entrusted (M)according to the commandment of (N)God our Savior,

3 But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

3 In His own time He has revealed(I) His message(J) in the proclamation that I was entrusted(K) with by the command(L) of God our Savior:(M)

3 At the right time he revealed his message through the proclamation that was entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior.

4 men who are above reproach, only once married, with children who believe and who are not liable to the charge of being profligate or insubordinate.

4 To (O)Titus, (P)my true child (c)in a (Q)common faith: (R)Grace and peace from God the Father and (S)Christ Jesus our Savior.

4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

4 To Titus,(N) my true son(O) in our common faith.Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.(P)

4 To: Titus, a genuine child in the faith that we share. May grace and peace from God the Father and the Messiah, Jesus our Savior, be yours!

5 [For a bishop must be above reproach ??he is a steward of God's house ??he must not be presumptuous or hot-tempered or a drunkard or violent or addicted to pilfering;

5 For this reason I left you in (T)Crete, that you would set in order what remains and (U)appoint (V)elders in every city as I directed you,

5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

5 The reason I left you in Crete(Q) was to set right what was left undone and, as I directed you, to appoint elders(R) in every town:

5 The reason I left you in Crete was to complete what still needed to be done and to appoint elders in every city, as I myself commanded you.

6 he must be hospitable, a lover of goodness, master of himself, a just man, a religious man, and abstemious;

6 namely, (W)if any man is above reproach, the (X)husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of (Y)dissipation or (Z)rebellion.

6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

6 one(S) who is blameless,(T) the husband of one wife, having faithful(c) children not accused of wildness or rebellion.

6 An elder must be blameless. He must be the husband of one wife and have children who are believers and who are not accused of having wild lifestyles or of being rebellious.

7 he must hold by the sure truths of doctrine so as to be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and refute objections raised by any.]

7 For the (d)(AA)overseer must be above reproach as (AB)God’s steward, not (AC)self-willed, not quick-tempered, not (AD)addicted to wine, not pugnacious, (AE)not fond of sordid gain,

7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

7 For an overseer,(U) as God’s administrator, must be blameless, not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not addicted to wine, not a bully, not greedy for money,

7 Because an overseer is God's servant manager, he must be blameless. He must not be arrogant or irritable. He must not drink too much, be a violent person, or make money in shameful ways.

Correct Whoever Teaches What Is Wrong

8 For there are plenty of insubordinate creatures who impose on people with their empty arguments, particularly those who have come over from Judaism;

8 but (AF)hospitable, (AG)loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled,

8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

8 but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, righteous, holy, self-controlled,

8 Instead, he must be hospitable to strangers, must appreciate what is good, and be sensible, honest, moral, and self-controlled.

9 they must be silenced, for they are undermining whole families by teaching objectionable doctrine for the base end of making money.

9 (AH)holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in (AI)sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.

9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

9 holding to the faithful message as taught,(V) so that he will be able both to encourage with sound teaching(W) and to refute those who contradict it.

9 He must be devoted to the trustworthy message that agrees with what we teach, so that he may be able to encourage others with healthy doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

10 It has been said by one of themselves, by a prophet of their own, that ??"Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons."

10 (AJ)For there are many (AK)rebellious men, (AL)empty talkers and deceivers, especially (AM)those of the circumcision,

10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

10 For there are also many rebellious people, full of empty talk and deception, especially those from Judaism.(d)

10 For there are many people who are rebellious, especially those who are converts from Judaism. They speak utter nonsense and deceive people.

11 That is a true statement. So deal sharply with them, to have them sound in the faith

11 who must be silenced because they are upsetting (AN)whole families, teaching (AO)things they should not teach (AP)for the sake of sordid gain.

11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

11 It is necessary to silence them; they overthrow whole households by teaching what they shouldn’t in order to get money dishonestly.

11 They must be silenced, because they are the kind of people who ruin whole families by teaching what they should not teach in order to make money in a shameful way.

12 instead of studying Jewish myths and rules laid down by men who have discarded the Truth.

12 One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, “(AQ)Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”

12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.

12 One of their very own prophets said,Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.(e)

12 One of their very own prophets said, "Liars ever, men of Crete, savage brutes that live to eat."

13 For the pure all things are pure, but nothing is pure for the polluted and unbelieving; their very mind and conscience are polluted.

13 This testimony is true. For this reason (AR)reprove them (AS)severely so that they may be (AT)sound in the faith,

13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

13 This testimony is true.(X) So, rebuke them sharply,(Y) that they may be sound in the faith

13 That statement is true. For this reason, refute them sharply so that they may become healthy in the faith

14 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their deeds; they are detestable, disobedient, and useless for good work of any kind.

14 not paying attention to Jewish (AU)myths and (AV)commandments of men who (AW)turn away from the truth.

14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

14 and may not pay attention to Jewish myths(Z) and the commands of men who reject the truth.(AA)

14 and not pay attention to Jewish myths or commands given by people who reject the truth.
