וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר

､ אַהֲרֹ֜ן

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and to

､ בָּנָ֗יו

bā·nāw,

וְאֶל֙

wə·’el

and to

כָּל־

kāl-

בְּנֵ֣י

bə·nê

the sons

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

of Israel ､

וְאָמַרְתָּ֖

wə·’ā·mar·tā

and say

､ אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם

’ă·lê·hem;

to them ､

זֶ֣ה

zeh

this [is]

הַדָּבָ֔ר

had·dā·ḇār,

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

､ צִוָּ֥ה

ṣiw·wāh

has commanded ､

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

､ לֵאמֹֽר׃

lê·mōr.

אִ֥ישׁ

מִבֵּ֣ית

mib·bêṯ

of the house

יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

יִשְׁחַ֜ט

yiš·ḥaṭ

､ שׁ֥וֹר

šō·wr

an ox ､

אוֹ־

’ōw-

or

､ כֶ֛שֶׂב

ḵe·śeḇ

lamb ､

אוֹ־

’ōw-

or

､ עֵ֖ז

‘êz

goat ､

､ בַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה

bam·ma·ḥă·neh;

in the camp ､

א֚וֹ

’ōw

or

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

יִשְׁחַ֔ט

yiš·ḥaṭ,

kills [it]

מִח֖וּץ

mi·ḥūṣ

､ לַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃

lam·ma·ḥă·neh.

the camp ､

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and to

פֶּ֜תַח

pe·ṯaḥ

the door

אֹ֣הֶל

’ō·hel

of the tabernacle

､ מוֹעֵד֮

mō·w·‘êḏ

of meeting ､

לֹ֣א

lō

not

הֱבִיאוֹ֒

hĕ·ḇî·’ōw

לְהַקְרִ֤יב

lə·haq·rîḇ

קָרְבָּן֙

qār·bān

לַֽיהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

לִפְנֵ֖י

lip̄·nê

מִשְׁכַּ֣ן

miš·kan

– יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

of Yahweh –

דָּ֣ם

dām

the guilt of bloodshed

יֵחָשֵׁ֞ב

yê·ḥā·šêḇ

shall be imputed

. לָאִ֤ישׁ

lā·’îš

to man .

הַהוּא֙

ha·hū

דָּ֣ם

dām

､ שָׁפָ֔ךְ

šā·p̄āḵ,

He has shed ､

וְנִכְרַ֛ת

wə·niḵ·raṯ

and shall be cut off

הָאִ֥ישׁ

hā·’îš

הַה֖וּא

ha·hū

מִקֶּ֥רֶב

miq·qe·reḇ

עַמּֽוֹ׃

‘am·mōw.

לְמַעַן֩

lə·ma·‘an

to the end

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

יָבִ֜יאוּ

yā·ḇî·’ū

בְּנֵ֣י

bə·nê

the sons

יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

אֶֽת־

’eṯ-

-

､ זִבְחֵיהֶם֮

ziḇ·ḥê·hem

their sacrifices ､

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

הֵ֣ם

hêm

זֹבְחִים֮

zō·ḇə·ḥîm

עַל־

‘al-

in

פְּנֵ֣י

pə·nê

､ הַשָּׂדֶה֒

haś·śā·ḏeh

the field ､

וֶֽהֱבִיאֻ֣ם

we·hĕ·ḇî·’um

that they may bring them

､ לַֽיהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

to Yahweh ､

אֶל־

’el-

at

פֶּ֛תַח

pe·ṯaḥ

the door

אֹ֥הֶל

’ō·hel

of the tabernacle

､ מוֹעֵ֖ד

mō·w·‘êḏ

of meeting ､

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ הַכֹּהֵ֑ן

hak·kō·hên;

the priest ､

וְזָ֨בְח֜וּ

wə·zā·ḇə·ḥū

זִבְחֵ֧י

ziḇ·ḥê

שְׁלָמִ֛ים

šə·lā·mîm

לַֽיהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

. אוֹתָֽם׃

’ō·w·ṯām.

וְזָרַ֨ק

wə·zā·raq

And shall sprinkle

הַכֹּהֵ֤ן

hak·kō·hên

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַדָּם֙

had·dām

עַל־

‘al-

on

מִזְבַּ֣ח

miz·baḥ

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

פֶּ֖תַח

pe·ṯaḥ

[at] the door

אֹ֣הֶל

’ō·hel

of the tabernacle

､ מוֹעֵ֑ד

mō·w·‘êḏ;

of meeting ､

וְהִקְטִ֣יר

wə·hiq·ṭîr

and burn

הַחֵ֔לֶב

ha·ḥê·leḇ,

the fat

לְרֵ֥יחַ

lə·rê·aḥ

נִיחֹ֖חַ

nî·ḥō·aḥ

. לַיהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

And no

יִזְבְּח֥וּ

yiz·bə·ḥū

they shall offer

עוֹד֙

‘ō·wḏ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

זִבְחֵיהֶ֔ם

ziḇ·ḥê·hem,

their sacrifices

､ לַשְּׂעִירִ֕ם

laś·śə·‘î·rim

to demons ､

אֲשֶׁ֛ר

’ă·šer

הֵ֥ם

hêm

זֹנִ֖ים

zō·nîm

have prostituted

. אַחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם

’a·ḥă·rê·hem;

חֻקַּ֥ת

ḥuq·qaṯ

עוֹלָ֛ם

‘ō·w·lām

תִּֽהְיֶה־

tih·yeh-

זֹּ֥את

zōṯ

לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

. לְדֹרֹתָֽם׃

lə·ḏō·rō·ṯām.

throughout their generations .

וַאֲלֵהֶ֣ם

wa·’ă·lê·hem

And to them

､ תֹּאמַ֔ר

tō·mar,

you shall say ､

אִ֥ישׁ

’îš

-

אִישׁ֙

’îš

מִבֵּ֣ית

mib·bêṯ

of the house

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

of Israel ､

וּמִן־

ū·min-

or

הַגֵּ֖ר

hag·gêr

of the strangers

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

יָג֣וּר

yā·ḡūr

､ בְּתוֹכָ֑ם

bə·ṯō·w·ḵām;

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

יַעֲלֶ֥ה

ya·‘ă·leh

עֹלָ֖ה

‘ō·lāh

a burnt offering

אוֹ־

’ōw-

or

､ זָֽבַח׃

zā·ḇaḥ.

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and to

פֶּ֜תַח

pe·ṯaḥ

the door

אֹ֤הֶל

’ō·hel

of the tabernacle

מוֹעֵד֙

mō·w·‘êḏ

לֹ֣א

lō

not

יְבִיאֶ֔נּוּ

yə·ḇî·’en·nū,

לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת

la·‘ă·śō·wṯ

אֹת֖וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

it

､ לַיהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

to Yahweh ､

וְנִכְרַ֛ת

wə·niḵ·raṯ

and shall be cut off

הָאִ֥ישׁ

hā·’îš

הַה֖וּא

ha·hū

. מֵעַמָּֽיו׃

mê·‘am·māw.

from among his people .

Eating of Blood Forbidden

וְאִ֨ישׁ

wə·’îš

And

אִ֜ישׁ

’îš

מִבֵּ֣ית

mib·bêṯ

of the house

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

of Israel ､

וּמִן־

ū·min-

or

הַגֵּר֙

hag·gêr

of the strangers

הַגָּ֣ר

hag·gār

､ בְּתוֹכָ֔ם

bə·ṯō·w·ḵām,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

יֹאכַ֖ל

yō·ḵal

כָּל־

kāl-

､ דָּ֑ם

dām;

וְנָתַתִּ֣י

wə·nā·ṯat·tî

and I will set

פָנַ֗י

p̄ā·nay,

בַּנֶּ֙פֶשׁ֙

ban·ne·p̄eš

against that person

הָאֹכֶ֣לֶת

hā·’ō·ḵe·leṯ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַדָּ֔ם

had·dām,

וְהִכְרַתִּ֥י

wə·hiḵ·rat·tî

and will cut him off

אֹתָ֖הּ

’ō·ṯāh

-

מִקֶּ֥רֶב

miq·qe·reḇ

. עַמָּֽהּ׃

‘am·māh.

כִּ֣י

kî

נֶ֣פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

the life

הַבָּשָׂר֮

hab·bā·śār

of the flesh

בַּדָּ֣ם

bad·dām

in the blood

､ הִוא֒

hî

is ､

וַאֲנִ֞י

wa·’ă·nî

and I

נְתַתִּ֤יו

nə·ṯat·tîw

לָכֶם֙

lā·ḵem

to you

עַל־

‘al-

הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ

ham·miz·bê·aḥ,

לְכַפֵּ֖ר

lə·ḵap·pêr

to make atonement

עַל־

‘al-

– נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶ֑ם

nap̄·šō·ṯê·ḵem;

כִּֽי־

kî-

הַדָּ֥ם

had·dām

ה֖וּא

hū

it [is]

בַּנֶּ֥פֶשׁ

ban·ne·p̄eš

. יְכַפֵּֽר׃

yə·ḵap·pêr.

[that] makes atonement .

עַל־

‘al-

כֵּ֤ן

kên

אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙

’ā·mar·tî

לִבְנֵ֣י

liḇ·nê

to the sons

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

of Israel ､

כָּל־

kāl-

נֶ֥פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

מִכֶּ֖ם

mik·kem

לֹא־

lō-

not

תֹ֣אכַל

ṯō·ḵal

､ דָּ֑ם

dām;

וְהַגֵּ֛ר

wə·hag·gêr

shall any stranger

הַגָּ֥ר

hag·gār

בְּתוֹכְכֶ֖ם

bə·ṯō·wḵ·ḵem

לֹא־

lō-

not

יֹ֥אכַל

yō·ḵal

. דָּֽם׃

dām.

of the strangers

､ יָצ֜וּד

yā·ṣūḏ

צֵ֥יד

ṣêḏ

חַיָּ֛ה

ḥay·yāh

אוֹ־

’ōw-

or

ע֖וֹף

‘ō·wp̄

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

､ יֵאָכֵ֑ל

yê·’ā·ḵêl;

may be eaten ､

וְשָׁפַךְ֙

wə·šā·p̄aḵ

and he shall pour out

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

דָּמ֔וֹ

dā·mōw,

וְכִסָּ֖הוּ

wə·ḵis·sā·hū

and cover it

. בֶּעָפָֽר׃

be·‘ā·p̄ār.

with dust .

כִּֽי־

kî-

נֶ֣פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

the life

כָּל־

kāl-

of all

בָּשָׂ֗ר

bā·śār,

– דָּמ֣וֹ

dā·mōw

בְנַפְשׁוֹ֮

ḇə·nap̄·šōw

sustains its life

. הוּא֒

hū

it [is] .

וָֽאֹמַר֙

wā·’ō·mar

Therefore I said

לִבְנֵ֣י

liḇ·nê

to the sons

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

of Israel ､

דַּ֥ם

dam

כָּל־

kāl-

of any

､ בָּשָׂ֖ר

bā·śār

לֹ֣א

lō

not

､ תֹאכֵ֑לוּ

ṯō·ḵê·lū;

You shall eat ､

כִּ֣י

kî

נֶ֤פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

the life

כָּל־

kāl-

of all

בָּשָׂר֙

bā·śār

– דָּמ֣וֹ

dā·mōw

הִ֔וא

hî

he

כָּל־

kāl-

אֹכְלָ֖יו

’ō·ḵə·lāw

. יִכָּרֵֽת׃

yik·kā·rêṯ.

shall be cut off .

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

נֶ֗פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš,

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

תֹּאכַ֤ל

tō·ḵal

נְבֵלָה֙

nə·ḇê·lāh

what died [naturally]

､ וּטְרֵפָ֔ה

ū·ṭə·rê·p̄āh,

or what was torn [by beasts] ､

בָּאֶזְרָ֖ח

bā·’ez·rāḥ

of [whether he is] a native your own country

､ וּבַגֵּ֑ר

ū·ḇag·gêr;

or a stranger ､

וְכִבֶּ֨ס

wə·ḵib·bes

and he shall both wash

､ בְּגָדָ֜יו

bə·ḡā·ḏāw

his clothes ､

וְרָחַ֥ץ

wə·rā·ḥaṣ

､ בַּמַּ֛יִם

bam·ma·yim

in water ､

וְטָמֵ֥א

wə·ṭā·mê

and be unclean

עַד־

‘aḏ-

– הָעֶ֖רֶב

hā·‘e·reḇ

. וְטָהֵֽר׃

wə·ṭā·hêr.

and shall he be clean .

וְאִם֙

wə·’im

But if

לֹ֣א

lō

not

､ יְכַבֵּ֔ס

yə·ḵab·bês,

he does wash [them] ､

וּבְשָׂר֖וֹ

ū·ḇə·śā·rōw

לֹ֣א

lō

-

､ יִרְחָ֑ץ

yir·ḥāṣ;

וְנָשָׂ֖א

wə·nā·śā

then he shall bear

. עֲוֺנֽוֹ׃

‘ă·wō·nōw.
