'Take a Census' in the Bible
"{When you take a census of} the {Israelites} to count them, they will each give the ransom of his life for Yahweh when counting them, and a plague will not be among them when counting them.
“Take a census of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, by their families (clans), by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, every male, head by head
"You will not muster the tribe of Levi, and you will not {take a census of} them in the midst of the {Israelites}.
“Take a census of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, by their families (clans), by their fathers’ households,
“Take a census of the sons of Gershon also, by their fathers’ households, by their families.
“Take a census of all the [males in the] congregation of the sons of Israel from twenty years old and upward, by their fathers’ households, all in Israel who are able to go to war.”
"[Take a census of the community] from {those twenty years old} and above, just as Yahweh commanded Moses." The Israelites who went out from the land of Egypt [were]:
Later, God's anger blazed forth against Israel, so he incited David to move against them by telling him, "Go take a census of Israel and Judah."
So the king ordered Joab, commander of the special forces, who was with him, "Go throughout the tribes of Israel from Dan to Beer-sheba and take a census of the people so I can be made aware of the total number."
But the king's order overruled Joab and the commanders of the special forces, so Joab and the commanders of the special forces left David's presence to take a census of the people of Israel.
And Satan stood up against Israel and provoked David to take a census of Israel.
David ordered Joab and the commanders of the army, "Go take a census of Israel from Beer-sheba to Dan, and bring me a report so I can be aware of the total number."
And David did not {take a census of those twenty years old or under} because Yahweh promised to make Israel more numerous than the stars of heaven.
