John 5:1-13 - A Paralytic Is Healed
After these things there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem, by the sheep-gate, a pool, which is called, in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. 3 In these were lying a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, withered, [waiting for the moving of the waters: 4 for an angel of the Lord went down at a certain period into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever, therefore, first, after the troubling of the water, stepped in, was healed of whatsoever disease he had].
And a certain man was there, who had been for thirty-eight years in his infirmity. 6 Jesus, seeing this man lying, and knowing that already for a long time he had been thus, saith to him, "Do you wish to be made well?"
The sick man answered Him, "Sir, I have no one, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool; but, while I am coming, another goes down before me!"
Jesus saith to him, "Rise, take up your bed, and walk." 9 And straightway the man became well, and took up his bed, and was walking. And it was the sabbath on that day. 10 The Jews, therefore, said to him who had been cured, "It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed."
But he answered them, "He Who made me well, the Same said to me, 'Take up your bed and walk.'
They asked him, "Who is the Man That said to you, 'Take up your bed, and walk?'" 13 And he who was healed knew not Who it was; for Jesus withdrew, a multitude being in the place.
