John 5:1-13 - A Paralytic Is Healed

¹ After these things there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. ² Now there is in Jerusalem, by the sheep-gate, a pool, which is called, in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. ³ In these were lying a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, withered, [waiting for the moving of the waters: ⁴ for an angel of the Lord went down at a certain period into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever, therefore, first, after the troubling of the water, stepped in, was healed of whatsoever disease he had].

⁵ And a certain man was there, who had been for thirty-eight years in his infirmity. ⁶ Jesus, seeing this man lying, and knowing that already for a long time he had been thus, saith to him, "Do you wish to be made well?"

⁷ The sick man answered Him, "Sir, I have no one, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool; but, while I am coming, another goes down before me!"

⁸ Jesus saith to him, "Rise, take up your bed, and walk." ⁹ And straightway the man became well, and took up his bed, and was walking. And it was the sabbath on that day. ¹⁰ The Jews, therefore, said to him who had been cured, "It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed."

¹¹ But he answered them, "He Who made me well, the Same said to me, 'Take up your bed and walk.'

¹² They asked him, "Who is the Man That said to you, 'Take up your bed, and walk?'" ¹³ And he who was healed knew not Who it was; for Jesus withdrew, a multitude being in the place.
