John 7:40-53 - Different Opinions About Jesus

40 Some of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, This is in truth the prophet. Others said, This is the Christ. 41 Others said, Doth the Christ then come from Galilee? 42 Hath not the Scripture said, that the Christ cometh from the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the town where David was? 43 So there was a division among the multitude because of him. 44 And some of them wished to seize him; but no one laid hands on him.

45 The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, Why did ye not bring him?

46 The officers answered, Never man spoke like this man.

47 The Pharisees answered them, Have ye also been deceived? 48 Hath any one of the rulers believed in him? or of the Pharisees? 49 but this multitude that know not the Law are accursed.

50 Nicodemus saith to them, being one of them, 51 Doth our law judge a man, unless it first hear from him, and know what he doeth?

52 They answered and said to him, Art thou too from Galilee? Search and see that no prophet ariseth from Galilee.
