Matthew 27:45-56 - Jesus Dies On The Cross

Matthew 27:45-56

45 From the sixth hour, was there darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "Eli Eli lama sabacthani?" That is to say, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that said, "This man calleth for Elijah."

48 And straightway one of them ran and took a sponge and filled it full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. 49 Others said, "Let be: let us see whether Elijah will come and deliver him."

50 Jesus cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up the ghost. 51 And behold, the veil of the temple did rent in twain from the top to the bottom, and the earth did quake, 52 and the stones did rent, and graves did open, and the bodies of many saints which slept, arose: 53 and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and came into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

54 When the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake and those things which happened, they feared greatly, saying, "Of a surety this was the son of God."

55 And many women were there, beholding him afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him. 56 Among which was Mary Magdalene; and Mary the mother of James and the mother of Joseph; and the mother of Zebedee's children.

Mark 15:33-41

33 And when the sixth hour was come, darkness arose over all the earth, until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabacthani," which is, if it be interpreted, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

35 And some of them that stood by when they heard that said, "Behold, he calleth for Elijah." 36 And one ran, and filled a sponge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave it him to drink, saying, "Let him alone, let us see whether Elijah will come and take him down."

37 But Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. 38 And the veil of the temple did rent in two pieces, from the top to the bottom. 39 And when the centurion which stood before him saw that he so cried and gave up the ghost, he said, "Truly this man was the son of God."

40 There were also women a good way off beholding him: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the little and of Joseph, and Mary Salome: 41 which also when he was in Galilee, followed him and ministered unto him, and many other women which came up with him to Jerusalem.

Luke 23:44-49

44 And it was about the sixth hour. And there came a darkness over all the land, until the ninth hour, 45 and the sun was darkened. And the veil of the temple did rent even through the midst. 46 And Jesus cried with a great voice and said, "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit." And when he thus had said, he gave up the ghost.

47 When the Centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God saying, "Of a surety this man was perfect." 48 And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done: smote their breasts, and returned home. 49 And all his acquaintance, and the women, that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off beholding these things.

John 19:28-37

28 After that, when Jesus perceived that all things were performed, that the scripture might be fulfilled, he said, "I thirst." 29 There stood a vessel full of vinegar by. And they filled a sponge with vinegar, and wound it about with hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

30 As soon as Jesus had received of the vinegar, he said, "It is finished," and bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

31 The Jews then, because it was the Sabbath even that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day - For that Sabbath day was a high day - besought Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken down. 32 Then came the soldiers and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with Jesus. 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: 34 but one of the soldiers with a spear, thrust him into the side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. 35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true. And he knoweth that he saith true that ye might believe also. 36 These things were done that the scripture should be fulfilled, 'Ye shall not break a bone of him.' 37 And again another scripture saith, 'They shall look on him, whom they pierced.'
