John 12:27-36 - Jesus Predicts His Death

John 12:27-36

27 Now is my soul full of trouble; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this purpose I have come to this hour. 28 Father, glorify Thy name." Thereupon there came a voice from the sky, "I have glorified it and will also glorify it again."

29 The crowd that stood by and heard it, said that there had been thunder. Others said, "An angel spoke to him."

30 "It is not for my sake," said Jesus, "that that voice came, but for your sakes. 31 Now is a judgement of this world: now will the Prince of this world be driven out. 32 And I-- if I am lifted up from the earth--will draw all men to me." 33 He said this to indicate the kind of death He would die.

34 The crowd answered Him, "We have heard out of the Law that the Christ remains for ever. In what sense do you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is that Son of Man?"

35 "Yet a little while," He replied, "the light is among you. Be faithful to the light that you have, for fear darkness should overtake you; for a man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. 36 In the degree that you have light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light." Jesus said this, and went away and hid Himself from them.

John 8:21-30

21 Again He said to them, "I am going away. Then you will try to find me, but you will die in your sins. Where I am going, it is impossible for you to come."

22 The Jews began to ask one another, "Is he going to kill himself, do you think, that he says, 'Where I am going, it is impossible for you to come'?"

23 "You," He continued, "are from below, I am from above: you are of this present world, I am not of this present world. 24 That is why I told you that you will die in your sins; for, unless you believe that I am He, that is what will happen."

25 "You--who are you?" they asked. "How is it that I am speaking to you at all?" replied Jesus. 26 "Many things I have to speak and to judge concerning you. But He who sent me is true, and the things which I have heard from Him are those which I have come into the world to speak."

27 They did not perceive that He was speaking to them of the Father. 28 So Jesus added, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He. Of myself I do nothing; but as the Father has taught me, so I speak. 29 And He who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone: for I do always what is pleasing to Him."

30 As He thus spoke, many became believers in Him.
