Matthew 16:13-20 - Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi

Matthew 16:13-20

13 And Jesus coming into the coasts of Cesarea Philippi, asked his disciples saying, Whom do men say that I am?

14 The Son of man? And they said, Some say, John the Baptist, others Elijah; others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

15 He saith to them, But whom say ye that I am?

16 And Simon Peter answering said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus answering said to him, Happy art thou, Simon Barjonah; for flesh and blood have not revealed this to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I say also to thee, Thou art Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

20 Then charged he his disciples, to tell no one, that he was the Christ.

Mark 8:27-30

27 And Jesus went out and his disciples into the towns of Cesarea Philippi. And in the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, Whom do men say that I am?

28 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.

29 And he saith to them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answering saith to him, Thou art the Christ.

30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
