Matthew 16:13-20 - Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi

¹³ And Jesus coming into the coasts of Cesarea Philippi, asked his disciples saying, Whom do men say that I am?

¹⁴ The Son of man? And they said, Some say, John the Baptist, others Elijah; others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

¹⁵ He saith to them, But whom say ye that I am?

¹⁶ And Simon Peter answering said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

¹⁷ And Jesus answering said to him, Happy art thou, Simon Barjonah; for flesh and blood have not revealed this to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. ¹⁸ And I say also to thee, Thou art Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. ¹⁹ And I will give thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

²⁰ Then charged he his disciples, to tell no one, that he was the Christ.

²⁷ And Jesus went out and his disciples into the towns of Cesarea Philippi. And in the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, Whom do men say that I am?

²⁸ And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.

²⁹ And he saith to them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answering saith to him, Thou art the Christ.

³⁰ And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
