Matthew 23:37-39 - The Lament Over Jerusalem

Matthew 23:37-39

37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! 38 Behold your house shall be left you desolate: 39 for I tell you, ye shall not see me after this, till ye shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Luke 13:31-35

31 At the same time came some of the pharisees, and said to Him, Go out and depart hence, for Herod intends to kill thee.

32 And He said to them, Go, tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and to-morrow; and in a little while I am to be perfected: 33 but I must procede to-day and to-morrow and the following; for it cannot be supposed that a prophet should be cut off but in Jerusalem.

34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and ye would not? 35 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and I assure you ye shall not see me again till the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.
