And He said unto them, O people void of understanding and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken. Was not the Messiah to suffer these things, and so to enter into his glory?

and said unto them, thus it is written, and thus it was necessary that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead on the third day;

but thus hath God accomplished those things which He had foretold by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer.

And according to his custom Paul went in among them, and for three sabbath-days discoursed to them from the scriptures; opening them and shewing, that the Messiah was to suffer and rise again from the dead: and that this is the Christ even, Jesus, whom, said he, I preach unto you.

But having obtained help of God, I continue until this day, testifying both to small and great, and saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses declared should come to pass; even that the Messiah should suffer, and being the first of the resurrection from the dead should bring light to the people and to the Gentiles."

For in the first place I delivered to you, that which I also received, to wit, that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures:

As the bodies of those animals, whose blood being offered for sin is brought into the holy place by the high-priest, are not eaten, but are burnt without the camp. Wherefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people by his own blood, suffered without the gate.

And from that time began Jesus to acquaint his disciples, that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, and chief priests, and scribes; and be put to death, and be raised again on the third day.

saying, the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and be put to death, and be raised again the third day.

But I tell you that Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but did what they pleased to him: and so is the Son of man to suffer by them.

And He answered and told them, Elias doth indeed come first, and settle all things: He told them likewise how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things and be used contemptuously.

and the son of man shall be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they shall condemn Him to death, and deliver Him up to the gentiles, to insult, and to scourge, and to crucify Him. But on the third day He shall rise again.

saying, Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be delivered to the chief priests, and the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles; and they will insult Him, and scourge Him, and spit upon Him, and put Him to death: but on the third day He shall rise again.

And He took the twelve with Him and said to them, Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. For He shall be delivered to the Gentiles, and insulted, and abused, and spit upon, and they will scourge Him, and put Him to death:

for He was instructing his disciples, and told them, the Son of man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will put Him to death; and on the third day, after his being put to death, He will rise again.

But He must suffer many things first, and be rejected by this generation.

Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: perhaps when they see Him they will reverence Him. But when the husbandmen saw Him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do unto them?

And He said unto them, I have earnestly desired to eat of this passover with you before I suffer:

Now is my soul troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I to this hour.

Then was Jesus led by the spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil: and when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, at last He was very hungry. And the tempter came to Him and said, If thou art the Son of God, command these stones to become bread:

Now Jesus being full of the holy Spirit, returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted by the devil; and He did eat nothing in all those days: and when they were ended, at last He was hungry. And the devil said to Him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.

Then the devil taketh Him into the holy city, and setteth Him on a wing of the temple,

And he brought Him to Jerusalem, and set him on a battlement of the temple, and said to Him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence;

Again the devil taketh Him to a very high mountain, and sheweth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

And the devil taking Him up into an high mountain, shewed Him all the kingdoms of the world in an instant,

and He was there in the wilderness forty days tempted by Satan, and among the wild beasts: and angels ministred unto Him.

But He turned and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan, thou art an offence to me; for thou regardest not the things of God, but those that be of men.

Then entred Satan into Judas who was surnamed Iscariot, one of the twelve.

And after the sop Satan entred into him. Then Jesus saith unto him, What thou dost, do quickly.

I shall not have much more conversation with you: for the prince of this world is coming; not that he hath any thing in me,

And his tail drew a third part of the stars of heaven, and cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman, who was ready to bring forth, that when she was delivered, he might devour her child.

but me it hates, because I bear my testimony concerning it, that it's deeds are evil.

And when they were departed, behold an angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Rise and take the child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and continue there, untill I tell thee to return: for Herod will seek the child to destroy Him.

He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and yet the world knew Him not:

For every one that doth evil, hateth the light; and he cometh not to the light, least his deeds should be reproved.

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me first. If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember what I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have observed my word, they will also observe yours.

which none of the rulers of this age knew; for if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

yea, He came to his own peculiar right, and even his own people received Him not.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

And as He drew near, beholding the city, He wept over it, saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at lest in this thy day, the things relating to thy peace--- but now they are hid from thine eyes.

how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him.
